Hey, I sent Procreate a message asking about layers and ram. I told them that this iPad was showing more layers compared to the iPad Air 3, as you have shown us in this video. They told me that if that was the case, it’s a bug and would be fixed in the next update. This is a little saddening to hear, and thought you would like to know the update.
Great tablet. For those who regret or have doubts of taking it instead of an air or pro model, I can tell you it's best for what it offers for this price. Yes, it hasn't superlaminated screen, A300X processor and... 100 gb of RAM, highest refresh rate, 4 speakers, etc. but I did extraordinary drawings on it. It offers the same things as a pro tablet, with some minor (I can say) limitations. The drawing process is very smooth, yet the display has a gap and sounds a little loud when drawing on it, but I didn't noticed very much. Yes, the paralax effect... not a really big deal. The screen hasn't as big brightness as a pro but I don't use it outside and inside seems to be superbright. Sometimes the ocuments are saved a little slow, the number of layers are little, but I managed drawings with only one layer - and remember, when drawing on real paper nobody has more than one layer. Also the sound of the speakers is very deep, though it comes from only two. For me, at this moment this is amost PRO. But don't forget to take the 128 gb one. The system and some apps are quickly exceeding 10 gb.
@@bobk7773 Yes, you're right, It's so... ok 32 gb. If you use only procreate and other 2-3 apps would be far enough. For exemple I installed a lot of apps and made a lot of drawings and photos and I still have 110 gb free. It would take me years to fill it. With the difference you can buy an apple pencil for example. It's a false panic created for no reason.

So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.

I really love the way you explain things that are actually interesting for artists. Great review! My main drawing tablet is a Wacom Cintiq 12. I've been drawing with a gap between the frame and the screen for over 4 years so the gap on a regular iPad should not be a big problem for artists who are used to older wacom products. I have to admit the gap has never been a problem. I don't know if they have changed that on newer models. I'm looking for an alternative for when I'm away from my desktop. A pro would be the best option to get more layers... but I'm currently trying to save some money for a new camera as well... I love this old school front "frame" (I'm not sure if it's also called frame in English 🤣)... It gives me a safer sense of stability in my hand. I don't like to accidentally touch the screen. 10.2 inch is the minimum I can go because I like to keep the zoom out to get a better view of my whole composition when working with concept art. But a 128G is a must have because I run out of space so quickly and I like to keep my quick sketches in hand for further references... I get easily annoyed by my 32g phone constant warning of low storage space. LOL xD

Great review. I ordered an ipad 7 128gb this week (haven't got it yet), but was also considering the Air, wondering if the extra processing power and better display would be worth it. Thanks to reviews like this, for my use, I think the 7 will be fine, as I am new to digital art (but not art on paper), and it's my first iPad ever. Now it looks like I need to buy the apple pencil and possibly a matte screen protector.
I actually doubt if it makes a big difference in things like screen when you're planning on putting a screen protector on anyway because screen protectors never destroy the accuracy so I think the 128 gb has more value than an air, especially because they both have 3 gb of ram
Great video, it's good that you always review these products from an artist's perspective. Hilarious that I commented on the 6th gen IPad video saying I didn't regret buying it, only for me to trade it in at Best Buy for this new base iPad. It pretty much feels the same, except with slightly larger screen and slightly better RAM, which allows for more layers in ProCreate.
Ive been thinking of getting this for what you do as well. Is it a good investment? I have a stylus and tablet but i would really like to draw on the screen and have a portable option.
To color fill the glasses frame in red even though there's a gap, drag the red to the frames and do not lift the apple pencil, then slide the pencil left or right to adjust fill sensitivity :). Very useful. :)

I was recommended Ipad as opposed to cintiq and was sold on the idea after playing around on a 1st gen ipad pro. My main concern with this fella was the possibility of parallax, but judging from your video it does not look like it is too much of an issue at all! Thank you again!

This would probably only be worthwhile for digital artist on a budget since it has a bigger screen than the ipad 6. But its more expensive than the ipad 6 so i dunno :S

Even after putting a glass screen protector on this bad boi, the Ipad 7 is still really fun and efficient to draw with (I've been using Clip Studio since that's what I use on computer). Guys i just bought this ipad and the pen, but how do i see the pen battery level? I swipe the battery menu but ot doesn't show the pen level (only ipad)
i love mine i got extremely lucky they had a new reduced price smart keyboard for ipad pro 10.5 original: 150 and i got it for $50 and then i put an $11 glass cover and a backcover its big but not too big i can carry it to class type notes and do so much more then what i ever could before this is honestly a no brainer the smart keyboard makes a difference.
should i get apple ipad 10.2 7th gen or thinkpad x260 for drawing? Light games? Comparable price $400. I have a laptop but want a tab I can use on the couch? Are iPad's durable w a case. Great review as usual. IMO, apple pencil tilt sucks. It's too abrupt and you have to push hard to get results. Surprisingly the best tilt comes from Microsoft pen. Very fluid and easy to tilt without much effort.
Could you please measure the actual height and width of the active area of the screen pleeeease? This is a very hard set of numbers to find online. At best, the dimensions of the ENTIRE device are easy to find. Not much else... I know that the iPad 6 (9.7" 2018) ACTIVE screen area is 147.39mm x 196.47mm I believe that the iPad 7 should be no more than 12mm more than than the iPad 6 in these measurements, but, could you please check? :( Thank you for your time and your GREAT reviews!

Currently, there are some discounts and I'm not sure what to get between two iPads: iPad Pro 9.7 or iPad 10.2 I would like to get an iPad for drawing as I want to shift from drawing on paper to drawing digitally. I never worked on an iPad or digitally, well with a few exceptions where I used my laptop + mouse to color, shade a hand-drawn illustration (crayon on paper then uploaded the image on a laptop), and I really liked it, it felt better, it looked even better. Anyway, after some time I finally got some money to get an iPad but don't know which would be better. iPad Pro 9.7 256gb vs iPad 10.2 128gb. Both should have 2gb ram if I'm not wrong so the number of layers on Procreate should be the same. iPad Pro 9.7 is 514 euros while iPad 10.2 is 494 euros from where I want to buy them, so which one do you think it's better for their price and the like. iPad Pro 9.7 is a very old tablet. I recommend getting the new 10.2 inch. Do check out refurbished section on Apple's website to see if there are any discounted iPads. 10.2-inch has been out for a while so there should be refurbished sets, usually 15% off retail price.

I recommend getting more storage. Much of the storage will be taken by the timelapse videos recorded by Procreate. If you turn off the recording, then maybe 32GB storage is enough

@@anchal5629 There are flash storage drives with lightning ports, just like typical USB thumb drive. You can save Procreate files out to the external drive, or to cloud. eg. iCloud, Google Drive (best).
Really depends on your budget. If you are going to draw a lot, 128GB is the one I recommend. Especially if you draw with Procreate and have timelapse-recording on because the size of those video files add up.

Sketching outdoors with the iPad's glossy screen would be a good test of a James Gurney-style diffuser shade setup.

Guys i just bought this ipad and the pen, but how do i see the pen battery level? I swipe the battery menu but ot doesn't show the pen level (only ipad)

I feel like a gig of ram in iOS is a big deal being that iOS runs really good on what are considered low ram devices.

It's funny because I can draw for about 12-14 hours on this device while it's fully loaded. The rest of your review seem to be legit.

i love mine i got extremely lucky they had a new reduced price smart keyboard for ipad pro 10.5 original: 150 and i got it for $50 and then i put an $11 glass cover and a backcover its big but not too big i can carry it to class type notes and do so much more then what i ever could before this is honestly a no brainer the smart keyboard makes a difference.

The iPad will have smoother performance. Consider Samsung Tab S7 FE too.

I still use my Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 and works just fine with Sketchbook Pro, plus I don't have to charge my pen to use it...

Reason even considering is black Friday have 10.2 for 279. And w pencil more reasonable than 479 which is what would have been not on sale.

I've only ever owned kindles so convince me should no get an iPad or not?

I've just got an Ipad 7 and I'm looking forward to start drawing and painting digital art, but I'm a bit confused and I don't know which pen is better for this ipad if I'm planning on using procreate and actually want to do paintings with textures and more depth, similar to acrylic paintings... so if you could help me, because I see that your paintigs are more like cartoonish like, maybe I'm wrong...HELP ME PLEASE

I've mine for two years and battery life is not as good but it's still working.

Great review as usual. IMO, apple pencil tilt sucks. It's too abrupt and you have to push hard to get results. Surprisingly the best tilt comes from Microsoft pen. Very fluid and easy to tilt without much effort.
Could you please measure the actual height and width of the active area of the screen pleeeease?
This is a very hard set of numbers to find online.
At best, the dimensions of the ENTIRE device are easy to find.

I know that the iPad 6 (9.7" 2018) ACTIVE screen area is 147.39mm x 196.47mm
I believe that the iPad 7 should be no more than 12mm more than than the iPad 6 in these measurements, but, could you please check? :(

If you are on budget, iPad is good enough. You can used the money saved to buy more storage and the Apple Pencil

I would like to get an iPad for drawing as I want to shift from drawing on paper to drawing digitally. I never worked on an iPad or digitally, well with a few exceptions where I used my laptop + mouse to color, shade a hand-drawn illustration (crayon on paper then uploaded the image on a laptop), and I really liked it, it felt better, it looked even better. Anyway, after some time I finally got some money to get an iPad but don't know which would be better.
iPad Pro 9.7 256gb vs iPad 10.2 128gb. Both should have 2gb ram if I'm not wrong so the number of layers on Procreate should be the same.
iPad Pro 9.7 is 514 euros while iPad 10.2 is 494 euros from where I want to buy them, so which one do you think it's better for their price and the like.

iPad Pro 9.7 is a very old tablet. I recommend getting the new 10.2 inch. Do check out refurbished section on Apple's website to see if there are any discounted iPads. 10.2-inch has been out for a while so there should be refurbished sets, usually 15% off retail price.

I recommend getting more storage. Much of the storage will be taken by the timelapse videos recorded by Procreate. If you turn off the recording, then maybe 32GB storage is enough

@@anchal5629 There are flash storage drives with lightning ports, just like typical USB thumb drive. You can save Procreate files out to the external drive, or to cloud. eg. iCloud, Google Drive (best).

Really depends on your budget. If you are going to draw a lot, 128GB is the one I recommend. Especially if you draw with Procreate and have timelapse-recording on because the size of those video files add up.
