Just bought the tokina 11-20. Not bothered about autofocus as a wide is best ser to infinity so theres no surprises. You'll never see autofocus on a cinematic shot. Also, living in a dull and clouldy england with dim small interiors, the 2.8 is priceless for real estate shoots. Be interested in your comments which one you prefer. Ps. Originally purchased the 10-18mm f5.0 - utter garbage lens and not redundant in my bag. I dont shoot birds or flowers - only commercial work.
the purple fringe of tokina is really a big problem for me. because for filmmaking, i can't adjust the parameter while recording so the purple fringe just still there...... the noise is also a big problem while recording video.
I buy a Canon 10-18mm IS STM instead for video. I keep Tokina for photography and indoor video recording with manual focus(to avoid focal change noise).
Nice vídeo, thanks. what about Tokina vídeo auto-focus is not very noise? I think Tokina is good, but I´m afraid about the autofócus noise when I´m making vídeo.
Rashad 704 haven’t made any videos with it but i’m not sure how the autofocus would be good for videos , the motor might make some noise . any canon stm lenses are good for video since they got the quietest motor
Good job comparing the two lens. I have the Tokina and agree it is amazing value for money, but sometimes wish for a little bit more range. Btw, have you thought about shooting a bit of b-roll to cover the 'jumps' between your takes? Just a suggestion! Understand it probably takes a lot more time to film and edit too :)
Thanks so much! This cleared up the issue for me, I'm going with the Tokina. Is there any large difference between the original version, and the up grade, DX vs DX-II?
+Isaac Hwa i would personally get the canon efs 10-18 IS STM because since it's lighter than the canon 10-22, tokina 11-16, and the sigma 10-20, i found out that it easier and faster to calibrate. Also, if you have the canon 70D or the 7d mark ii, the canon efs 10-18 IS STM can use the dual pixel CMOS sensor to keep focus on your subject, especially on a glidecam since you can't really focus while moving
***** No, not really. I mean, you can still focus with other lenses, but the benefit of using a STM lens is that the focus is ultra silent and very quick. I used the sigma 18-35mm on my Canon 70D before it was very quick, but in post I was still able to hear the AF motor making noises
I just sold my 10-18 for a 10-22. I would pick the 10-22 3.5/4.5 because it equal to a 16-35 f/4 on a full frame. The 10-18 is lighter in weight and good for walking around when there's daylight but sucks after the sun sets. Personally, the Tokina has too short of a focal length and I really don't like that it starts at 11mm. The Tokina for photos & The Canon for videos
The 10-18 f4.5-5.6 IS STM is small, light, cheap and the STM is quiet and great for videos, but the range and aperture are both compromised. The 10-22 f3.5-4.5 USM is a good alrounder. The Tokina 11-16 f2.8 has great aperture, but compromised range. There is nothing perfect; horses for courses, and each to their own.
+Jie Xen Depends on how much you're budgeting for the lens. With the 10-22 you get a slightly wider aperture range compared to the 10-18 and slightly better build. However disregarding maximum aperture, they come pretty close in image quality.

I just purchased the tokina 11-20 new version, it's really sharp and works very well with Blackmagic cinema camera. Definitely the best choice
Can you use the tokina on a canon mirrorless body with an efs to efm adapter?
Ger Victor yes

can you recommend low distortion and cheap price lens please
Excellent. I wish all comparison videos were just like this. Straight, to the point and fast! Great job.
I love my tokina. First lens I ever bought and got it for $350.
I got it today for $175 from Craigslist mint!
i got mine for $165 with a 15 days warranty
11-16 is it good with filmmaker?

Canon 10-22 or Tokina 11-20 for interior and architecture work on crop sensor please????
What's the aperture of them? Angle and aperture is important for my investment.
never heard about this tokina before. thanks man

very useful, thanks!
Which filters do you use for protection (if any?)

Definitely the tokina 11-16

Perfectly made comparation. Well done!
What is your best (wide-angle) lens recommendation to use with a glidecam?

+The_DIgital_Pixel huh? doesn't dual pixel work on other lenses too? I'm using 18-35 1.8 sigma, pretty sure it works

The Canon for videos
Thanks for the suggestion just want to buy 10-18mm but now I changed my mind I’ll choose the 10-22mm.thanks

Landscape lens??
Ian McSendy yes
very good comparison, thanks
excellent
0:51 - bullshit! Tokina isn't plastic, it's metal (hadn't you guessed why it's heavier being the same size?!)
FOR VIDEOGRAPHY AND AUTO FOCUS CONTINUOUS WHAT ITS MORE BETTER ONLY FOR MAKE.VIDEOS THANKs
Do you recommend the Canon EF-S 10-18 IS STM over Canon EF-s 10-22 IS USM for APS-C?
No
+Jie Xen most people I saw do. Well, I know people don't really like Fro, Ken Rockwell and such, but still.
+Jie Xen Depends on how much you're budgeting for the lens. With the 10-22 you get a slightly wider aperture range compared to the 10-18 and slightly better build. However disregarding maximum aperture, they come pretty close in image quality.
+Jie Xen only if your shoots/videos have good lighting or else get the 10-22. you'll be better off.
yeh bro is better and cheaper see ken rockwell reviews...
Awesome!
