both 11-16 and 11-20 support EF and therefore 35x24mm² ... but they will show circular black edges when using the range of 11-15mm - vignetting. it is almost like a fisheye-lens with 8-15mm. On the smaller APS-C sensor you may be able to use the total range from 11-16mm. Because of the smaller sensor the circular "shadow" wont "touch" the smaller sensor as early as on full frame. I use both (Tkina 11-16 and Canon 8-15) on all my 6D and 1DX to create pictures that look like a planet in space. With my 8-15 @8mm i can shoot like a surround view of the horizon by pointing straight into the sky.
Thank you, though I’d like to have seen them inside and and a lower F stop. To me the deciding factor is the Lens Flare. The 11-16 is much worse. Timely, I’m deciding today which way to go.
Why don't you try to do the same exact photos with same settings, same subject, same focal lenght, aperture etc but different tokina (in this case 11-20mm and 11-16mm) to see which one is really better? Like a landscape, potrait, street

Thanks for such a detailed review. I'm looking to do some Milky way photography with a Nikon D7500 but am confused whether to buy a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 or a Tokina 11-20 f2.8. I've read some pretty good reviews about the 11-16 but also that it gives a hard time to focus at infinity, which I believe is essential to photograph the milky way. Kindly advise which lens should I go with?
Sorry! you cant make a comperisson if you just use two different lenses and shot on basically the highes F Stop they offer!!! in case of sharpness every lens reacts differently on different Fstops, maybe the 11-16 is less sharper at f22, so can be the 11-20 less sharper at F8 than the 11-16! your test is basically REALLY useless! make the same Test on different Fstops and than you can tell wich lens is sharper at these f stops! And its better to make photos than videos, so you can really see the differences
There is no point in shooting at f/22 to assess sharpness, as you are introducing strong diffraction from the small aperture. Thanks for the vid though.
Outside of the focal length, is the main difference between these two lenses the focal length of 11-16 vs 11-20? I am not talking about your perception of what you see, but the actual lens differences.
Yes, the main difference is the longer length, 16mm vs 20mm. The second difference is sharpness and autofocus. I think the 11-20 is sharper and has faster autofocus.
In my opinion, it's better, but it's a personal opinion. Don't take me for my word. Test these lenses for yourself and you decide which is best for your personal needs.
You have a bad copy of the 11-16 then, unless everything you use is shot at f/2.8. There is no doubt about that. I had three copies of the Tokina 11-16 ... and two of the three outshot the two of the 11-20 ... hands down. I guess people just don't test sharpness at like f/11 that often. Ah well ... waste of money since you buy this lens for wide angle and not 20mm. @82mm thread for a filter .. it's like 2x the cost of a 77mm filter these days on the top end of the spectrum. So to me ... the fact its let's say for argument sake "just AS sharp as the 11-16" .. the 20mm reach is a non-starter and the 82mm filter doesn't me want to spend more money on a filter set I already have. I guess if you have money to burn .. but that's my own opinion.
I just booked a 11-16. More than f22 it would be interesting to see the sharpness comparison at f8/ f9/ f11 for which most people buy these two lenses to shoot indoors at weddings, real estate, etc. You could have tested it indoors at mid range f-stop instead of f22. You could have used a filter for better sharpness at f8 to f11. I hope I am right because that's what I have learnt from my experience.
That's a great way to test these lenses. Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I made this video four years ago and don't even own these lenses anymore, but I appreciate the comment. Cheers.
I don't remember which picture profile I was using, but I never use the default one. I usually shoot on Neutral with the sharpening and contrast dialed all the way down. OR, I use Lightform N or Lightform C, which are third party cinema Picture Styles made by a company called Cine Plus.
Thanks for your video! How is the continuous AF in video? Is one better than the other? Does one have a less noisy AF motor sound than the other though can that noise be avoided with a shotgun mic on the camera? Thank you
Continuous AF works, but it's not nearly as good or silent as a Canon STM lens. The AF noise will be reduced by using a shotgun mic, but you'll still hear it. If you want a good AF and no noise in a wide angle lens, consider the Canon 10-18mm.
Video Gizmology thank you.. Is there another stm lens or similar with the better af in a similar focal range with constant aperture at f2.8 as the canon one is too slow for my needs..? (I see there's the sigma at f3.5 but probably had similar af to the tokina..
I'm not sure about Nikon. I am a Canon shooter. The Tokina fits on a full frame Canon, but it's not usable on it's wide length. You have to zoom in towards the telephoto side. I only use this lens for video on Canon full frame because of it's crop in 4K.
It is true that the 11-16 is a pig for flairs compared to the 11-20 which performs quite well, considering no filters were used. But is the 11-20 as good as 11-16 when it comes to low light performance and astrophotography??
Although it is for APS-C cameras the mount is EF and will fit on a full frame camera. I use this on my Canon 6D and it is usable from around 15-16mm just fine. It will vignette from 11-14mm.
Good video. I love this lens. Good for the price. The part of the video where you pointed the camera into or close to the sun decreased the contrast and were not good for the comparison. Otherwise good video.
Iv had most nikon 10-24 sigma 10-24 ..tokina blew them away .. my nikon went .. gutted i paid £650 nikon need to get their act together with dx lenses ..
Is 11-20 suport the full frame cameras?

Tokina 11-20 vs Tamron 10-24?
want know too
Can i know tokina 11-20 vs tamron 10-24 which one better for video?
the sunbursts look better on 11-20! is it the case at all f stops?
Hello, In what country do you have such a beautiful lemon tree?
haha. thank you. United States.

Marcus, you're fired from the embassy. :-)
a better test maybe not against the light? no?
70d is already soft in video. Sharp lens won't make a difference there. U should know this having c100 side by side.

But which is better for my GH5 with Metabones speedbooster? 11-16mm or 11-20mm?
11-20mm.
Seriously? i was told the 11-16mm is the one I should go for?
In my opinion, it's better, but it's a personal opinion. Don't take me for my word. Test these lenses for yourself and you decide which is best for your personal needs.
Nice sun stars in that video looked good on those lenses. You must be in FL too.
California.
How about the autofocus of 11-20? Because I have seen reviews that 11-16 mm is noisy in terms of the autofocus
Ysai Loren Ocampo Both should be pretty much the same in terms of noise

Is the autofocus sound as bad when using an external mic like the rode?
Not as bad as the on camera mic, but still not great. The rode mics will pick up that autofocus noise.

Anything larger than f11 looks like garbage on any lens. It’s called diffraction. Use nds rather than stoping down past f11.
You are literally shooting with the default picture profile, which has digital sharpening, lool.
lool

You'll have to get the expensive Canon 16-35mm if you want 2.8 wide angle.
thanks
Cool vid, thank you. Will it work on a full frame like the Nikon D750.??
I'm not sure about Nikon. I am a Canon shooter. The Tokina fits on a full frame Canon, but it's not usable on it's wide length. You have to zoom in towards the telephoto side. I only use this lens for video on Canon full frame because of it's crop in 4K.

Can you use manual focus? I am planning to adapter on micro 4/3
Yes, you can use manual focus.
WTF are you saying it's not sharp at all

Not sure about astrophotography, but the 11-20mm is sharper in low light.
Video Gizmology Came back for a second dose of this, great comparison tho😂😂☺️
Which one gives better bokeh?
The Tokina 11-20mm gives better bokeh.
hey so the sound of the focusing does that get annoying
if u use an external mic like a takstar it won't pick it up as much
Which lens should we go for landscape and astro photography. Please do reply
I would go with a Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 G2 or Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 or Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8. These Tokina lenses have inferior optical quality in 2020.
11 16 Sure, the legend
The best color and clarity
Thank you! This helped me make a decision on what to buy!
Can they fit a fullframe?
No. These are APS-C only.
Yes they can... You get heavy vignetting up until 15 or 16mm zoom range though.
Roy G Biv And very very very soft corners
Although it is for APS-C cameras the mount is EF and will fit on a full frame camera. I use this on my Canon 6D and it is usable from around 15-16mm just fine. It will vignette from 11-14mm.
Video Gizmology hi nice video brow , can i use this two lesen on my nikon d3400?
Yes you can. Make sure you purchase the Tokina with a Nikon mount.
Video Gizmology thanks man 💪💪
im working with a blackmagic camera in full manual will i still hear the hunt sound
nope
Good video. I love this lens. Good for the price. The part of the video where you pointed the camera into or close to the sun decreased the contrast and were not good for the comparison. Otherwise good video.
Is this with or without a polarizer?
Without.
Do these lenses have hard stops when manual focusing?
Yes, but the throw is very short.
Any estimates on that? I cant find the focus throw distance anywhere on the internet
on the 11-20mm = 2 inches from 0 to infinity
Iv had most nikon 10-24 sigma 10-24 ..tokina blew them away .. my nikon went .. gutted i paid £650 nikon need to get their act together with dx lenses ..
Today i bought 11-16 and felt very bad abt my decision after watching yr vidoe 😞
You shouldn't. That lens is ultra popular.
@@hippopictureshe should. The auto focus noise is shit
Thanks for the review. Please keep-up the good work.
-Cheers
this proves again, no matter what good lens you use, canon sensor's colour rendering is not appealing to me thkU cheers
thanks
Compare with f22 and 1080p? Really? 😂😂😂
They are very noisi for video !!!
thanks
