Yes, very late. I sold all my aps-c gear because of the lackluster offerings back then. I convinced myself to go entry level full-frame. It's nice to see how things change as I reconsider my options.
I agree. UWA is the biggest strength of full frame, e.g. one if my favorite 380g PZ 16-35 f/4 lens would be 11-24 f/2.8 on apsc that just doesn't exist on any apsc platform.
Im a big fan of your channel and have so far bought 3 lenses based on your reviews! Im now torn between this tokina and the new Sigma 10-18 and would love to see how you compare these two. Please make it happen!
Thanks for the review. You and your families are always awesome. 😊About this len, I got mine in an exhibition event in a special sale. Its range is a good match to my 18-105mm f4 G. It is approx. US$155 no tax. That I can not find a reason not to it home.😊
Interesting opinion. In which regard other than being a bit shorter do you find it to be the best lens? Id take the Tamron 11-20 over it any day: - same weight - 2mm more focal length - bit sharper - ! weather sealing !
Great review! Thanks. I just bought a used one and am looking to do some astro photo work. Looking forward to more reviews! Oh, this lens will be used on an R7 with the adapter. I'm looking forward to some cool shots!
I had purchased a used 11mm f1.8 Sony before. I am not taking video but still, after 2 weeks, I found that it cannot be my walk around lens, it seems taken by the cell phone. While I am using a6000. On the other hand, 11-18mm zoom is more flexible to me. 😅
Hi there, I have seen your tokina 11-18 and the sigma 10-18 and your thoughts on the Tamron 11-20. How does the Tokina compare to the Sigma? I am in the market for a ultrawide zoom and would love to know how those three compare. Thanks
Hello Arthur, nice review! Form other reviews I noticed that in-camera distortion correction works incorrectly with this lens. Did you notice if EXIF data is fine? Just wonder how Sony works with 3rd parties apart of officially supported Tamrons and Sigmas
Great review! Been looking at variable wide angle lenses for my a6000 and really like the tamron 11-20 but its the priciest and doesnt have VXD. . The sony 10-18 has OSS but tends to be a little less clear than tamron. This tokina 11-18 has no OSS but is pretty sharp. I wonder if the sony with oss might perform better than tamron or tokina without built in image stabilization? Then i would like a lens with weather sealing. They all are great options yet are relatively priced the same. I am also leaning with the rokinon 12mm prime. Still undecided. Im looking to replace the sony 16 2.8 prime. I currently use a tamron 17-70 so perhaps a gap down to the samyang/rokinon 12mm prime wouldnt be bad? I just dont think over the past decade more than 10% of my shots were with the sony 16mm 2.8 with fisheye.
Once i've tried a croped ultra wide lens (tamron 11-16mm) on a fullframe body and it worked without vignetting only at 16mm. On night shots I could go wider because it as dark at all. But all wide lenses made for crop sensors should be the same on fullframe. The advantage is that you can turn on the crop mode on your FF body. So yes this lens is interesting for FF users.
@@arquivo225 The Sony 10-18 works great on the FF. The range is not the same as other APC lenses. Effectively, I use the 10-18 at 12.5-18mm, so I loose the 11, but 12 is wide enough for me. The only reason to look at other lenses is to try and get the f2.8. However, I must say, I only shoot video with this lens.
It is strange that Sony has not been really aggressive with it’s updates. The 10-20 f4 was long overdue and a 16-70 f4 is overdue. The Sony 11 replaced my Sigma 16 (Love the trio). The C sensor cameras are the great travel set up. Now, how about a Sony 7000 with 32 megapixel. I own the Sony a7 iv which is great, but sometimes, I use my wife’s a6600 (same battery) hiking and travel.
Sony already has very strong zoom lenses in that range. What they need is to replace their outdated 18-90 mm range primes because currently everyone has to use a Sigma prime for optimal results.
Neither this lens nor the Tamron have any optical stabilization. For catalyst browse you dont need the lens to have stabilization, it works better without it.
At this wide of an angle, I don't see why one would want a zoom over a prime lens with better clarity. I'd rather it just be 11mm - would probably be cheaper too.
Bro my budget is 650-700$ and I want to purchase a camera for both photography and videography. I love sony but can't find good deals. Please suggest me something good.
The new 10-20 PZ is a lot better, just expensive. If you want the widest image thats still sharp, the Laowa 9mm manual is a good option. If you want AF, the Sony 10-20 PZ would be my 2nd choice.
Yes, very late. I sold all my aps-c gear because of the lackluster offerings back then. I convinced myself to go entry level full-frame. It's nice to see how things change as I reconsider my options.
Crop still provides plenty of resolution on most of the full frame lineup, and would allow you to use APS-C lenses with your current camera.
I agree. UWA is the biggest strength of full frame, e.g. one if my favorite 380g PZ 16-35 f/4 lens would be 11-24 f/2.8 on apsc that just doesn't exist on any apsc platform.
aaah... I remember having a Toking 11-17mm f2.8 during my Canon days. Brings back memories. Loved that lens.
Monday's are always better with a new lens review ☺️

Sigma is 50% more where I live, how much does IQ differ?
Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 all day, every day!!
Can I ask why? I’m torn between Tamron 11-20 and this Tokina 11-18
2:40 The Tamron doesn't have stabilisation does it???
It doesn't.
The 11mm you are using is really distorting the image quite a bit, I wouldn't use it for vlogging myself.
Ok...how does it look in Full Frame & how far do i have to zoom to get rid of vignette?...

Sony 11mm you are using the distortion makes a footage look weird. Is there any lens in wide prime, zoom prime and zoom lens which looks straight?
Wow this lens is the best on the market for aps-c. Thanks for the review

@@p4ul.f708 Yes, also a very interesting glass
@@p4ul.f708 Indeed, no idea why someone would chose tokina over tamron, also in my country tamron is cheaper than tokina, so 5-0 for tamron.

You are correct, thinking about the 17-70 when recording this. Edited.
Hello, Nice lens. Thanks for your video.
Could you make a review of the Sony A7 IV with APSC lens ?

man, I've seen so many of your videos that I already feel like I know your family. haha huge thanks!
Good review. Sounds like Tokina built an excellent lens that deserves a place in the market.
Man, if they made this lens for Canon, tô pair with the Sigma 18-35 1.8, would be the perfect line-up! Great video
mas eles fazem, só que pra Canon tem a 11-16 e a 11-20

De todos los lentes que mencionaste? Comparados con el laowa 9 mm? Estaba apunto de comprarme el laowa, me pusiste en duda 😐
Hi, I'm looking to get this lens for architectureal photography. Do you reccomend this lens? In terms of sharpness?
Arthur what about Tokina Firin 20mm F2?

For me any zoom lens with less than 2x zoom can be replaced by a prime with one larger stop of aperture.
I love wide angle lenses and for sure i'll by one zoom and one prime faster, or even two of them.
