They shouldn't put ' Malay' for restaurant name. They will be misunderstanding. Malay is a race that predominantly Muslim. Also most of Malay food have similarities with Indonesian cuisines. They only serve Malaysia fusion food.Maybe using 'Malaya' is better because it's old name before federation. I think the owner didn't received their education in Malaysia. Make sense actually because our history is complicated clash between race and religions.
Malay in this case is MALAYSIA. They mean obvious talking about country. Talking about race, religion nowadays, you can proud about your race and religion and whatever, but showing it to others is kinda weird!
i may be a year late but the original commentor is saying it might confuse people because malay is a race. malaysia consist of malay, chinese, indian, and many other minority ethnicity. they are saying the word malay may confuse malay people that it's safe for them to go in to eat, which is not because malays in malaysia are muslim from birth and cannot eat pork. and i believe the restaurant owners don't know we chinese here call the short form of malaysia 大马 instead of 马来(which translates to malay) now.
Oh Flushing - that's supposed to be one of the best places for ethnic food in the country!
Wow. Loh mee here in the Philippines is Lomi. I found out just now it originated from China and they call it Lor Mee.
