In Thailand, you can tell the seller that you want the creamy one or the firm one, there are many types of durians. You might think Thai durians are all firm because most Bangkok people like to eat it crispy outside and soft inside. In my province Surat Thani and my family love to eat it creamy so we gonna keep it few days after cut from tree without peeling to make it more ripe. I recommend you to ask them, there are levels of durian ripeness. The new cut will be a bit hard to let it slowly ripen while being transported to Bangkok. If you like creamy and sweet I suggest you to try Phaung Mani, Kan Yao and Chanee but Chanee has a strong smell than Monthong ^^
We tried kan yao when we first had durian from Thailand and loved it! 😊 We both liked that one more than mon thong. Mon thong was good too but we both said kay yao was creamier. We should probably try softer one next time in Thailand. Thanks for the suggestion! 👍👍

Icic! Sweet ones are probably more suitable for us Americans 😅. Honestly, I didn’t mind the bitterness. I thought it was a nice/interesting taste to it.
Love the never ending durian rivalry between thai and m'sia durian. I think generally the longer you hang the fruit on the tree then of course it'll be richer and colour is more intense as it ages. But of course you have to sacrifice the shelf life. Considering 90+% of thai durian are for export to chinese market, and ordinary thai paletes dont like overripe durian it doesnt make sense to collect them after the fruit fall off the tree. Not saying which is better but I guess Thai durians are made for a broader and wider market but as for intensity got to give it to m'sia durian.
Interesting! The owner was telling us there’s over 200 variations of Durian. Shocked us 😯. Definitely didn’t know there were so many! Gotta try D24 next time 😅
Thailand are the bigger exporter. They pluck the fruits prematurely to carter the market. The ones you tried in US definitely Thais (or Vietnams) Malaysia harvest differently. We wait the fruits matured and fall naturally. We export the fruits about 10 to 15 years before, mostly frozen and processed durian. About a month ago, we imported fresh in big batches for Chinese market.
Interesting! Honestly, the Durians in the states tasted nothing like Thailand. It was old, very sour, and definitely seemed like it was rotten. Had a horrible stench. I think that’s why a lot of Americans stray away from Durian. We get the worst of the worst rotten ones. At least the ones I tried… So the Durians in China are from Malaysia?
If you want more local durian experience, go for durian kampung. You’ll never know what you get. I love the alcoholic ones. But if you’re unlucky, you will get the unripe one so we just ferment em with sugar, salt and chillis (like kimchi). Also, for rarer find, durian daun. Vanillary taste. You can also go to Temerloh, Pahang and try Patin Masak Tempoyak (actually you can find this in KL too but may not as good). Its fermented durian and catfish jjigae/stew. That’s my favorite dish!
Malaysia Durian is really delicious!Thailand Monthong & Kanyao are pretty good too I’m just really surprised and shocked that there are so many variety of Durians

🤔 That’s a good question 😅 Best way I can describe it is like a creamy tropical custard that is very smooth. Approximately, 30-70% Sweetness depending on which Durian and in season. It has its own taste so I can’t really compare it with another fruit. One of those fruits you just have to try in SEAsia.
thre got 3 kinds of musang king, 1. normal, sweetness more bitter less, 2.old tree, sweetness & bitter in balance, 3. black gold ,sweetness lesser, bitter more personally, i prefer old tree musang king, perfect balance. i dont really like black gold, black gold almost = black torn, too bitter & too pricey.
How do you tell the difference when buying them!? I feel like, before we buy Durian in Malaysia, we need to buy a book to reference all of the Durian types just so you get the right one 😅
@@ChovyTravel normally u can tell from the price /kg if u see 3 prices of musang king in the same stall, cheapest = normal, mid = old tree, most expensive = black gold. normally it's written in chinese, some in english, but u definitely can ask.
You wrong Thailand durian unripe that why it's hard and less sweet.Thailand farmers don't wait durian ripe they pick durian when durian still attached on trees..Malaysia wait durian until its ripe and wait durian to fall down from trees that why Malaysia durian mushy creamy and more sweet.
Wow there’s durian platter now, what a way to be introduced to Malaysian durian. I moved from KL to rural part of Pahang and i personally, i dont eat durian for almost 30 years of my life as malaysian 😅 i started eating local, home grown durian here which i watched the process from the flower untill it became the fruit. (There are a lot of kampung durian tree, where i live) fresh drop from the tree durian smells different, and suprisingly i enjoyed it more. My fav are ioi, black thorn and kampung kinds, it taste sweet almost caramel with slight bitter after taste. And i still dont eat durian from other part of Malaysia, but Pahang 😂
durian is also a fav snack for many animals including tigers. I have seen a durian fruit which was eaten by a tiger, it opened the durian in bloom, and left the seed without teeth mark (solely using their tongue to savor the flesh).
They’re both really good! I think it really comes down to preference be the batch. I had one that was absolutely amazing in Thailand and one that was okay so it really depends. I do have to say though, Malaysia Durians seem consistently delicious. Only our first time, but I see why you have to eat Durian in Malaysia 😉
The way Thai durian is harvested and preserved makes Thai durian the best in the world in terms of taste and export, and no other country can compete. Waiting for the durian to ripen too long on the tree will make the flesh mushy and bitter and taste unpleasant. Many countries have tried to study and copy Thailand's methods, but they still can't do it. This has made Thailand famous for the best durian in the world.
Thank you so much for sharing! 🥰🫰❤️🙏 We found Durian in Malaysia pretty great too! The texture and taste are different from both Thailand and Malaysia. I guess it really boils down to preference. I’m really curious now to see the method of both countries on how you guys grow Durian. Going to have to look them both up 😁
@ChovyTravel Durian is native to Southeast Asia and is commonly found in countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar and the Philippines. Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam are 3 countries that export durian to other countries in the world especially to China. Arguably the most famous and sought-after durian is Musang King (D197)
@@ChovyTravel Thai Durian Varieties: Popular varieties include Monthong and Kan Yao. Flavor: Generally sweet with a creamy texture; Monthong is known for its mild taste and low bitterness. Availability: Widely available and often exported, making it more accessible internationally. Indonesian Durian Varieties: Notable varieties include Durian Medan and Durian Petruk. Flavor: Often more intense in flavor and aroma compared to Thai durians, with some varieties being quite bitter. Texture: Can be custardy and rich, with a strong aroma that some people find appealing. Malaysian Durian Varieties: Famous varieties include Musang King (Mao Shan Wang) and D24. Flavor: Musang King is particularly prized for its rich, sweet, and slightly bitter taste, along with a creamy texture. Popularity: Highly sought after in Asia and known for its quality and flavor, often considered the best by enthusiasts.
We actually like both countries durians. They’re both delicious and yet very different. Malaysian durians are sweeter but Thailand durians are less potent. Texture wise very different too. Soft vs firm.
Historically, the quality and expensive Thai durian is the Mon Thong variety. The English word means appearance, which is Golden Pillow. Its origin is in Nonthaburi Province, a province bordering Bangkok. However, Nonthaburi has changed from durian orchards to residential areas. In terms of real estate, the old people have left, the new generation has studied and gone to other jobs. Therefore, Mon Thong durian has moved to the eastern part of Thailand. The quality of Thai durian is second only to Mon Thong, which is Kanyao and Chanee. Other durians are of poor quality, such as southern durians and Malaysian durians because there is a lot of rain. The durian flesh is mushy like fermented fish sauce. Chinese factories buy it to make mooncake filling. It is very normal for children and Malaysians to say that their durian is good, but Malaysians still want Mon Thong durians, including the Chinese, who make Thais eat expensive durians. When the durians start to bloom, the Chinese will buy up the durian orchards, pay the orchard owners, and hire Thais to take care of the durian orchards. As for the durian orchard owners, they receive the money and are not responsible if there is a storm that damages the produce. I still have a lot to learn from an 80 year old.
Thank you so very much for sharing! 🥰❤️🫰🙏. We never tried the Chanee one before but the Mon Thong and Kanyao were good! Also, the Durian here in Malaysia is good too! I guess it really depends on the person. Coming from the US, I can definitely say, best Durian is in SEAsia for sure 😅

That’s kinda cool how you guys just let it fall from the tree. Gonna have to check out a video to see that 😁
@@ChovyTravel Maybe in your next trip you will be able to visit and eat durian in it's farm.
@@rozaiaw2308 that would be a nice experience 😊

Love Malaysian durian any day over Thai only because I am accustomed to it.
Malaysia Durian is really delicious!Thailand Monthong & Kanyao are pretty good too
I’m just really surprised and shocked that there are so many variety of Durians
The best in the world

Thailand durian world no.1❤❤
Thailand is the no.1 durian exporter
Malaysia's best durian no.1
@@当当-k5l People all over the world think like you. This makes Thai durian the world's largest exporter and attracts tens of millions of tourists to Thailand to eat durian.
How much for the party plate?
Think it was 98 RM which is about $22 USD
I still like Udang merah the best 😊
Really? Hopefully we can find this one next time 😊
@ChovyTravel It is also known as 'Red Prawn or Angka'. This and D24 my favourite. Some will durian with steamed glutinous rice. Durian ice-cream is good too.
OoO so Malaysia has Durian Sticky Rice too!?
What does durian taste like?
🤔 That’s a good question 😅
Best way I can describe it is like a creamy tropical custard that is very smooth. Approximately, 30-70% Sweetness depending on which Durian and in season. It has its own taste so I can’t really compare it with another fruit. One of those fruits you just have to try in SEAsia.
@ Thank you for your response. I guess I will enjoy durian when I visit Malaysia in 2025; God willing. Be blessed.
More than 200 varieties here. Durian is a malay nusantara word. Not a thai word. So you figure out ya
That would be so hard to keep up which Durian is what since there are over 200 different types 😬
Musang king is already D197
@@ChovyTravel in my lifetime so far here are the varieties I consumed.
Village durian
Tekka
Musang king - D197
D101
D24
XO
Red prawn
A lot so far 😅
Ic
thre got 3 kinds of musang king, 1. normal, sweetness more bitter less, 2.old tree, sweetness & bitter in balance, 3. black gold ,sweetness lesser, bitter more
personally, i prefer old tree musang king, perfect balance. i dont really like black gold, black gold almost = black torn, too bitter & too pricey.
Icic!
nextime, try to find a durian farm does walk in service, which is way way way cheaper~~~~~~
Will do! Any particular one you recommend?

it's always a rivalry, personally It depends on your taste and the quality of durian.
That’s very true! It really depends on the person, how ripe it is, the batch and etc.
Yummy Durien 😋
Durian 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
You wrong Thailand durian unripe that why it's hard and less sweet.Thailand farmers don't wait durian ripe they pick durian when durian still attached on trees..Malaysia wait durian until its ripe and wait durian to fall down from trees that why Malaysia durian mushy creamy and more sweet.
I guess it really depends. From our experience, it wasn’t hard and it was sweet in Thailand.
Malaysia Durian is rather sweet and creamy 😃
Thai people don't eat soft-ripe durian but like to eat it crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, so it doesn't smell much.
Yeah ours were fresh and didn’t have bad smell. 👍
Durian Man at SS2 pedaling jaya
Will have to try that out next time. Tyty!
don't eat with an empty stomach, it happened to me many years ago, wind build up in my stomuch, I could't sleep for almost 2 weeks
Really!? Oh wow! That’s crazy. We were both fortunate not to have issues afterwards. Definitely will still keep that in mind for next time. Tyty!
Thailand is the number One durian exporter
Malaysia's best durian number One 😊😊
When in season, i can have fresh durian for breakfast, lunch and dinner 😂
How interesting! That’s pretty crazy! Thank you so much for sharing! 🥰❤️🫰🙏 Now, I’m curious how it would be in Pahang 🤔😃
Wow! That’s crazy. I don’t think I can do that 😅
durian is also a fav snack for many animals including tigers. I have seen a durian fruit which was eaten by a tiger, it opened the durian in bloom, and left the seed without teeth mark (solely using their tongue to savor the flesh).
What!? That’s crazy! Wonder if the tiger would overheat 😅. I would probably pass out eating that much Durian
very expensive. haha
Definitely wasn’t cheap! But was a good experience!! 👍
D24 for me. Sweet and affordable
You like XO! XO was good too!!
mana yang sesuai dengan tekak
Definitely comes down to preference.
Wow.. really pricey. Tourist price I suppose
Yeah, I think so 😃. The owner was very happy with us. Probably because we kept buying stuff 😁
We Malaysian we dont eat Thailand durian not good at all.
Icic! Thank you for sharing! 😃
Its not stinky dude.....must correct your thinking.
Pungent?
Come on, was there any doubt that Malaysian durian would be better than Thailand durian????
They’re both really good! I think it really comes down to preference be the batch. I had one that was absolutely amazing in Thailand and one that was okay so it really depends.
I do have to say though, Malaysia Durians seem consistently delicious. Only our first time, but I see why you have to eat Durian in Malaysia 😉
Do not be scammed by Asian supermarket durians in America. Old, and spoilt stuff imported from thailand
I will never eat Durian in the states again 🤢
@@ChovyTravel lol
@@ChovyTravel if it cracked below and looked brown, do not buy them
Got it! 😃
too done.
Nah.
I ate varieties of durian in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
But still the best are durians in Malaysia.
Going to have to look them both up 😁
Didn’t know Indonesia had Durian too 😃. What kind do they grow?
@ChovyTravel
Durian is native to Southeast Asia and is commonly found in countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar and the Philippines.
Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam are 3 countries that export durian to other countries in the world especially to China.
Arguably the most famous and sought-after durian is Musang King (D197)

Not true on malaysian durian.
Malaysian durian is the best.
Thailand durian sucks on taste.
We’re leaving to Thailand very soon. Never heard of that market! Thanks for the heads up. Might have to check it out. Thank you 🥰❤️🫰🙏
We actually like both countries durians.
Bro I think you need to check your facts back
Thank you so very much for sharing! 🥰❤️🫰🙏. We never tried the Chanee one before but the Mon Thong and Kanyao were good!
Also, the Durian here in Malaysia is good too! I guess it really depends on the person. Coming from the US, I can definitely say, best Durian is in SEAsia for sure 😅
