@Chiu TSZ WAI you would be crazy to swap your FD2 for an FN2 , there is a reason you could get 3 fn2's for the price of one fd2. ..... fd2's are imo the best civic type r ever made
Had my fn2 for 2 an half years absolute love it. Loads of fun. Got a nice k & n filter in it. Sounds nice and throaty from the front. Can't beat Honda build quality.
Just stumbled across this video. I bought a Deep Sapphire Blue FN2 3 weeks ago and love it. I was a bit skeptical having owned an EP3 before but after 3 weeks I've changed my mind now. I find the FN2 a much better car to live with on a day to day basis and comes some creature comforts like dual zone AC, auto wipers, auto HID headlamps, aux and USB connectivity, cruise control and reverse parking sensors. My only minor gripe is that mine didn't come with the LSD. Even though its a face-lift, mine was built in February 2010 and its only the champ white ones and any car built after April 2010 that came with the LSD standard from factory. With regards to how rare the colour is, the number that were sold in Europe was 115, with 66 of them being sold in the UK. The colour was only available as an option for 1 year before being discontinued. This information was confirmed by Honda UK when I contacted them to go over the service history and enquire about any outstanding recall work.
I bought a new EP3 back in 2005.. had it for 9yrs love it then it was written off.. Bought a champ white FN2 nice car but can't compare to the EP3.. EP3 much more raw... Kept the FN2 for 3 years and then went over to an Astra J VXR.. and it's true.. before owning a turbo you gotta drive a NA.. And if I am honest, I do prefer a NA to turbo.. much more of a drivers car.. but I do miss my revs and vetec...
I owned a 2010 FN2 as my daily car until it was written off (not my fault) a few weeks ago. I loved it but really never appreciated how well everything was put together for the driver until i've had to go looking for another car. The clutch was perfectly positioned and with a really low bite. Most people think that driving one of these would teach you lots of bad habits as if you were just ragging it around all day, but i think the opposite is true; you learn much better control with these clutches (even though mine squeaked a bit) and have to change gears more accurately if you want a smoother ride..... or you could just leave in it 2nd and drive around in vtec all day lol. Much prefer VTEC to turbo too. Tempted to just buy another one.
2 years on and what did you do? I’m really really keen on getting a type r, looking at one for about 5.5k, which isn’t too bad, have seen nicer ones go for cheaper. I’m buying the car as a daily driver rhat I can have fun in too, I don’t have much of a long commute at all, but can’t help telling myself I’ll regret it for the poor mpg - something that shouldn’t be an issue with a hot hatch I know, but is it really as bad as I’ve been told about?
@@traceurGeorge What did i do? I had a baby and had to buy a sensible car with 5 doors..... and I absolutely hate it lol. Yes, it's fun to drive but it's also really good value for what it is, good building quality, massive boot space and i just love the way it looks. MPG isn't great but in reality we're just talking about filling up a bit more regularly. For comparison; my work at the time was about 30 miles across London everyday so 60 miles per day everyday minimum. In a average car i'd probably get another day out of it....... but then that would mean I'd be driving a crap car that i couldn't car less about and i'd be miserable. That is a very good review. You clearly know about driving dynamics and how to assess a car's characteristics. I find the Type R an extremely good drivers car with a massive feel good factor mainly because of the amazing steering feel, handling and grip levels on decent rubber. The torque is disappointing but if you are prepared to drive it like a 2 stroke motorcycle and ride the power band then its fairly rapid. No need for 600 bhp these days.
Your wrong about the MPG, mid 40s on a motorway would be difficult, if at all possible... I always average 30 - 33 on a motorway run, between 20 and 30 around town depending on how much vtec i give it...

Quite easily actually. Provided you are comfortable within the rev range, you can keep the car in gear apply braking pressure with your left foot as you depress the accelerator (ever so slightly) in order to unsettle the car. This can give you amazing turn in when cornering!
people say these cars are heavy but there only -1267kgs so thats -63kgs more than a ep3 -1204kgs !and almost-100kgs lighter than any of the other cars in its class like the golf GTI -1336kgs or the focus ST-1362kgs or the renault megan RS -1375kgs these are all 2008 cars ! so the this car is heavy seems a bit stupid when with all the modern tec its way lighter than every car in its class !!!!!!!

the type r is beautiful, vtec is amazing but if you turbo this car it's a beast.... Had a ep3 was very fun but very old now. Looking at this video to get a fn2 and to turbo it, the Lexus is not doing it for me.
Turbo is certainly taking this car into the next level! But upgrades like cams, inlet porting, free flowing exhaust etc.. can enhance the N/A response and power of the engine. Albeit it certainly not as financially viable going that route, but its just as fun with forced induction!
Well according to the trip computer you can but i'm not sure how accurate that is. Typically i get 33 mpg and a few miles less in winter. On a straight run at 60 mph with just me in the car i've had 47 mpg over a 100 mile trip. Before my fn2 i had a 1.8 petrol focus. The fn2 uses less petrol than that bloody thing doing the same journey.

Great review thinking about buying one now
Just one thing to pick up on which you mentioned a lot - how do you left foot brake in a manual car....
Best review I've seen for an FN2 👍
Wow thank you for watching glad you enjoyed!!
What do you mean 5k for a fn2!?! In Portugal is 25k to 30k for a goodish one!
8 to 15000 for a type r here in Holland.
You have almost exact lookalike of this car called type s with a 1.8 or 1.4 i-vtec. You can get those for 5 to 7000
not true! i have a 59 plate facelift, but i dont have a lsd. as far as i am aware, lsd came in halfway through the 60 plate, apart from the champ white, which all had them.
Models made from 1 March 2010 had LSDs fitted as standard.
Are the indicators on the opposite side like most euro cars? since the fn2 was intended for euro market?
This particular car has had the indicators on the mirrors wrapped in an orange tint. Owners preference.
@@CarswithJay what's that got to do with the original question?
@@MrSmith130 just re-read the question I misinterpreted it originally. Indicator was on the left side I think?
Excellent review mate 🤗
Thank you very much!!
how have you only got that many subs wow, nice vid.
Love these civics but... the paint on them is soo thin its actually shocking.. hate the car for that, otherwise great cars 👍 whats “killin” this car on uk roads? Road tax £325 a year!!!
A standard FN2 driven by identical drivers will beat a standard EP3. I’ve spent the last 8 years commuting at 140mph on an A road in one.
Its rare for a reason, that colour is horrendous.
Good car and a good review! :)
Great video!
Should just get the integra type R. Same engine and looks 100 times better.
So can you explain what is so special and amazing about the Integra apart from any other car, that makes it 100 times better looking?
I wouldn't want an integra as a daily. Great on a track or as a fast road car but too twitchy / stiff / highly strung for day to day use.
Id have an fn2 as a daily though. Much more mature & grown up car. Also I wouldn't be worried about it when it's parked somewhere like a supermarket.
This civic is way more modern and really cool looking as a 3 door coupe. Never really liked the 5door 2006 to 2008 though
Had one for 6 years difficult car to live with and drive daily but great engine
Ride quality is extremely crashy fuel economy is not the greatest visibility out the back terrible
At 70 mph the engine is doing nearly 3500 rpm in 6th gear
Excellent info thankyou
Chat shit about the mpg more like 30 max lol
Good review 🔥🔥
Subbed, makes me want to swap my Diamond White ST150 with 45k miles on for one!!
I love my fn2 😎
Same and had it 4 years .
Is that exhaust stock?
Mid forties mpg 🤣 dream on. Mine does 28 - 31 on a long cruise.
Long shot, but have you made videos for Dub Customs before? Swear I recognise your face.
Yes good spot! Also featured on Boosted, B7TMY, TGE TV and Life of Tom.
@@CarswithJay Do you happen to remember from the 2017 BBQ, pointing out for a silver Ford Fiesta to be moved whilst in the US Cop car? Well, yeah, that was mine....LOL
Was it a standard exhaust on it dude?
Standard exhaust dude but he has a HKS induction kit installed up front
Is the exhaust on this stock? It sounded mad when he was downshifting
Stock exhaust but the HKS induction kit does make it sound a lot louder. Its very front end loud this car, you don't get much noise from the rear
CarswithJay can you still “make an entrance” with the front end sound?
@@debatable8749 You most definitely can. But a little exhaust mod wouldn't hurt if your going for sound.
It sound sooo good I have one and vtec is real
Thank you for hilighting my comment
Jeez Jay, you’re a barrel of laughs aren’t you!
Don't suppose you know what lower front lip is fitted to that one?
Just a universal splitter from eBay. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rubber-Strip-Splitter-Lip-Skirt-Protector-For-Car-Front-Bumper-100-Universal-/122884058469?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
Thanks for watching!!
@@CarswithJay thanks man, it looks really good on it
the type r is beautiful, vtec is amazing but if you turbo this car it's a beast....
Had a ep3 was very fun but very old now. Looking at this video to get a fn2 and to turbo it, the Lexus is not doing it for me.
the whole point is naturally aspirated engine
Turbo is certainly taking this car into the next level! But upgrades like cams, inlet porting, free flowing exhaust etc.. can enhance the N/A response and power of the engine. Albeit it certainly not as financially viable going that route, but its just as fun with forced induction!
Very interesting
That air intake is not factory haha. The stock Fn2 does not sound that good
I am certain I mentioned it was a HKS intake. But if I didn't then it has a HKS intake. Thanks for watching!
They made only a few of them because it is not everyones cup of tea. It looks like a type S model.
Its very understated but probably something most would have never seen before or will see
A few of them? Type Rs? They made a lot of them.
Over 12,000 Civic Type Rs were sold in the UK since January 2007,
Unless he means the colour? Yes type r and s are similar looking
Stock exhaust?
All stock! HKS induction helps with the noise. Thanks for watching!
Nice car
I personally prefer black rather than sapphire blue but I understand it gives more of an sophisticated look
Its like seeing a blue Ferrari, different, refreshing. Black is a good looking color on this car also!
Mine is black, I would say the best colour is red and black probably 2nd. Not into the champ white models, however some do look nice
How isit to reverse
Very noisy
@@CarswithJay can you not see much I mean in them cars out the back window
good review but terrible audio levels.
Check my new stuff. All sorted 👍🏽
Average 35 - 38 to the gallon, no chance
Mine is in the 20s
FD2R still the better and best
Luckily my next review is of an FD2 Type R! Spoiler its absolutely incredible!!!
I made some soup on lockdown eaten half a pan and just farted it fucking stinks
dude you should have way more subs, jump on TikTok or something and increase your following
Why do car reviewers insist on ruining thier videos with shit music? 🙄🙄
I agree this wasn't a great choice of music. But it was 3 years ago and I have changed my style since then :) Thanks for watching!

bollocks, you cannot get mid 40s in these on the motorway :p
Well according to the trip computer you can but i'm not sure how accurate that is. Typically i get 33 mpg and a few miles less in winter. On a straight run at 60 mph with just me in the car i've had 47 mpg over a 100 mile trip. Before my fn2 i had a 1.8 petrol focus. The fn2 uses less petrol than that bloody thing doing the same journey.
agreed MY FN1 1.8 si 2010 can't get 40mpg motorway. So I doubt a FN2 K20 can.
@@MrDirkles 60mph is not Motorway speed
@@rrplanb4030 it is if you're my age ;)
@@MrDirkles You should get the 2.2 Diesel mate.
this thing does not have vtec? since i heard that ep3 was last vtec civic
This car does in fact have VTEC just like the EP3.
I-vtec it is newer than say ek9 Jordan
get a drop in filter on original airbox them hot air cones suck hot air in and others lose about 20bhp
Your right! But that HKS sounds awesome!
Dc5 is way better than that fn2 ,
All DC5's have been abused and are well dated by now.
Duncan Graham this is much more dated as a dc5. Also if it is true that dc5s have been abused I can guarantee these have been too.
They're dated. But around ep3 era , then yes the dc5 was way more superior
They suck...the damn wing is threw the back window.
