I had a 08 from new - the early models have clutch and flywheel issues as well , honestly just set on fire and upload the video you’d make more in ads than you would from that.
Shame as they are great to drive when not broken or in this case disintegrating

Calvin! I would love to see a video of what’s actually wrong with the Type R. Don’t have to fix it. Maybe a video at VRS or nearby garage confirming what’s causing the smoke and overheating. A repair bill Ed how much it’s gonna cost. Loved this video man keep it up

This is what happens when people buy and own something without asking if they can afford it, then instead of spending what money they do have on maintaining the car properly, they spaff it on pointless "mods". I'm gutted this FN2 has been so badly mistreated. The spec is great, but it needs a bit of TLC to bring it back to the rightful condition. These may get a bit of "it's not an EP3 tho" hate now, but as the last NA engined Type R, I have no doubt there will be a sudden realisation that they've been overlooked and underappreciated. It's probablyy too late for this one, but hopefully there's lots more out there that have been treated properly.

That car has been beat on and abused it’s whole life. You can tell it’s lived a rough life but it’s still going. That’s a Honda for you. I’ve owned several of them and have put over 200k on every single one of them, lol!! They were all still running strong when I sold and or traded them. Hondas and Toyota’s are hard to beat when it comes to reliability and longevity.👌🏽🔥🔥🔥 This one prob needs a head gasket and will run just fine.

Unfortunately these sort of cars fall into the wrong hands too much, these aren’t much to buy so it’s affordable to many who want a cheap hot hatch then rag it, don’t service it and treat it like dirt. This one is probably the most neglected type r i have seen. Shocking that it’s been treated like this.

So being a fn2 owner myself and having experienced ALOT of those issues the most likely cause of each is:
ABS sensor has gone and is causing the VSA and ABS sensor issue and the smoking and engine light is probably due to the rad being blocked or something however the temp going that high have probably done ALOT more damage now

Calvin, you should do a build series/long episode on this on how you would go about fixing on a budget/what options there are to fix this. A lot of amateur weekend mechanics on this channel who I'm sure would love something like that. Probably a lot of people who a fixer series would resonate with as they're in the same boat.

    I currently have 3 of these .
    2007.x2 and 2008 gt.
Not the quickest of cars but smiles per gallon are on point 👌
The main problem's I've had are snapped drive shaft
    Vtec solenoid
    Pvc valve
    Suspension
    Control arms
    Drop links
    Bearings on the pulleys
    Hand brake like yours
    Roof rust
. Bare in mind there getting old now so it's all pretty common.
This is a bit far gone.
    Brake it.
    £300 seats
    £300 wheels
    £750 cat
    £1000 engine n box
£450 boot bonnet wings ×, trim
    £120 front n back lights
    And there more.
These cars are be being broke at a rapid rate because there just hitting that age a lot of the abouve will need attending to.
You might think you cba braking it but believe me you won't have a problem selling any parts off it very very quickly.
. For peace of mind I'd at least start to brake it to ensure no one ends up in the same situation as you. Who maybe less Financially fortunate.

White smoke out the exhaust is basically textbook headgasket failure, further backed up by temps getting high which will happen if combustion gasses make their way into the coolant. Its an easy fix if theres no warping in the cylinder head, its maybe 1 up to a couple hours for a mechanic to replace it. The fuel smell is unrelated but it is an issue on its own, leaky injector or pipe, bad seal on the pump, could be anything.

The car itself needs a complete overhaul from interior to exterior, then the actual heart (engine) needs a complete overhaul, head gasket, top end and bottom end building back up properly if you skim and take shortcuts itl smoke again not worth the hassle in my opinion.

  • @LAD241
    @LAD241 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Sounds like the air/fuel mixture is too rich on it causing the smoke and the smell but there’s definitely more to it than that if the temperature is so high. Unfortunately you’re probably best off just scrapping it or selling it to a breaker

Wow that is in a really sorry state (probably the worst I've seen), mine is in 100 times better condition for the same age. Guess that's what happens when somebody doesn't look after a car. No idea what the smoke is though, the K20Z4 in these doesn't have any specific engine problems. This car normally has issues with drive shafts, windscreen rust (like this one), some have the rear axles corrode and snap (rare), other than that leaky shocks and sticky brakes they're really reliable cars. Also engine temp should sit somewhere about 1/3 up on the meter or maybe just under half way so definitely a cooling issue, which has maybe damaged something else causing the smoke?

Wow, that is one rough/neglected CTR. That black oil means the VTEC system will not be working very well. They need to run the right oil changed at the correct intervals. I remember my independent Honda tech telling me how this gen Civic took a dip in quality by Honda standards. I've got the previous gen EU/EP gen as a second car. Runs like a champ. No rust anywhere. Its a better quality Civic all round. I'd scrap that Type R if it were me. It's too far gone.

  • @JohnKing-lw2sb
    @JohnKing-lw2sb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Just isn’t worth bothering to get it fixed. Presumably you would need extensive welding for the corrosion, needs new tyres, alloy Refurb, paint in areas plus whatever the ABS and other faults would cost. Scrap it. It’s worrying that it passed its last MOT to be honest, that rust didn’t happen overnight and clearly it’s not been looked after most of its life. Makes me realise I could genuinely advertise both of ours as ‘mint’ after seeing this.

Change the PCV valve probably sorting out and put a com test on it The only way you’ll kill one of them engines is To run it out of oil

I was gonna say would it be the valve stem seals from it smoking ?

I was thinking the same tbh. By the looks of the car in the state it hasn't been looked after such a shame to see such a iconic car go to waste. Engine is easy fix its the body work that's the most probmatic and the exhaust they probably cut out the cat as there worth alot well they sell for good money. Good luck what ever you do with it

Seems like a head gasket. White smoke is coolant burning in cylinder and high temp shows loss of coolant.

Can’t lie, due to the state of it, you should deffo make the most out of the situation and restore it, give it a happy ending, + tune it maybe… it will be good content anyway, since we’ve seen it’s story from the beginning 😂

What’s the point in restoring it and losing shit loads of money it’s a waste of time smh

What a shame. Obviously the last owner(s) were one of those people who think that because it’s a Honda they can just rag it around off the limiter everyday, and not bothering getting it serviced, and not bothering to wash it.
This is what happens eventually if a car is not looked after for long periods of time.

Jesus what a banger! The previous owner have definitely not taken care of it. Its a shame, really nice cars

8 previous owners with 125k miles Calv. That to me screams, village bicycle. Smoking could be valve stem seals, did seem too have a slight blue tinge to it in the video. Could also be HG if coolant is disappearing.

If it’s still got the original cat, chop it off and sell it for £500+ and then strip the rest. I got £550 for mine when changing to a sports cat, they went up to £800 a few months ago but I think back around £500 now.

Insure it and set fire to it...lol!!!
Smoke on acceleration is piston rings, on decelaration is valve seals...

Head gasket failure.. night aswell get a full engine rebuild and while yiu at it stick a nice turbo on it and full bodywork and re spray... or the only other option is scrap yard or sell for parts 😅😂🤣

Supercharge it, who cares about the appearance?! Ultimate sleeper with all the bangs and the smoke 😅 paint it championship white and spray over the rust, don't even bother treating it 😎

Probably just needs a new O2 sensor or its burning oil or probably the engine coolant temperature it's putting more fuel in because it has no data but the head gasket is definitely blown
