I was told slider is a Navy term, because as the boat rocked the heavily greased patties would slide on the griddle. Also the Navy being cheap would buy the smallest patties, so in the end you had a pile of small burgers for lunch.

And what period of time did they need to have 'white' or 'castle' in the name of your hamburger joint to be able to sell your burgers? Must have been a regional thing because in the state I grew up in the 50s/60s there wasn't a single place with any version of those words. The most popular, before McDonald's and other chains started showing up in our area was Big Toms.
Since the first mention of the condiment mustard was first mentioned in text from 3000 BC and ketchup was available in 1812 (I did Google both) and hamburgers were first served sometime in late 1800s or early 1900s those condiments were available from the beginning.
