- Did you know that your favorite fast-food burgers were likely inspired by small town mom-and-pop joints? That’s why Burger Scholar George Motz is on a mission to make sure you appreciate the surprising roots of America’s fast food burger chains! And he’s not doing it alone. In this episode, Motz and Last Meals host Mythical Chef Josh make three historical burgers that inspired fast-food giants: Wendy’s, Cheesecake Factory, and Steak N Shake. Think of these as the primary source burgers that begat burger empires; the neighborhood favorites that spawned international icons!

Ready to go on that camping trip whenever you are, dad 🤗
Finally! joshs useless facts pay off!
Sure son, I just need to go out for some milk first…
Only if you quit pumping your eyebrows at me son
I second this. Would love to watch that show!
this needs to happen, another burger trip, would be an amazing series.
Josh out here collecting father figures like Infinity Stones.

If only we all could
Sound Like Some🍕💩 David Lucas Would Say!😅
"A slider is not just a mini burger" YES! Can you please tell Joshua Weissman that? lol
He probably could have told him that if Joshua would’ve let him speak when they worked together recently
I can't stand that guy😂
@@Tropicalpisces I don’t hate him but don’t bring a guest on if you’re not going let them hardly speak
@@Tropicalpisces Yeah, fame hasn't really helped his ego much lol.
Josh is too arrogant to listen to anyone but his own voice.
I was wondering if Josh would try to call him dad and it only took him a few secs, love you Josh.

Josh and Motz, two very weird people with a lot of weird trivia knocking around in their heads. The episode of a lifetime has just been made
George on Last Meals when?
Yes! I could listen to these guys give food history lessons all day
7 courses, every which one is a different regional burger
They would make a good pair on a road trip show
The chemistry between these two is great. I hope they do more videos together sometime. Josh's general food history knowledge just plays so well with George's more specific American food knowledge to make some informing and entertaining banter. Love it.
These two need their own Food Network show!
Big “father who stepped up” coming from George in this episode
@bukealicious9146 why? They make more and have more views on youtube 😅
Really? I felt the opposite watching this. I didn’t get much chemistry between the two and there were plenty of awkward moments imo. Not that interactions have to be smooth 100% of the time but it’s just funny to me I got the exact opposite impression.
@@sentree9857 I agree, doesnt feel like there needed to be two for a simple slider
Thumbs up if you're feelin' the father-son vibe between Motz and Mythical Chef Josh ❤🍔
Mythical Father George
When is the next episode with these two... that is the first question we need answered? Also we need George on Mythical Kitchen.
more of a step child vibe 😂
How can I unsub this branch of FirstWeFeast and just keep Hot Ones?
Another episode of George making an onion smash burger.... Yawn
Honestly them doing a series over going through the Midwest trying local burger spots and talking burger history and stuff, would be amazing!
I'd watch the snot out of these two doin that.
💯
Whoever George Motz' publicist is deserves a raise, the man is literally all over TH-cam and TV on every cooking platform.
Credit to George. The dude combines passion and charisma. He legit loves what he does and sharing it with the world.
Cooking the same 8 burgers for 5 years.
@@thelandgrafablewhile you've done nothing but post uninspired comments for five years. Big sad.
@@thelandgrafable for hundreds of years*
@jakehoover6655 he's been doing it for 12 yrs actually 😂
Josh and Motz mesh sooo well together - what a great episode
I'd LOVE to see George Motz on Last Meals. Would he even put a Burger on there, considering he's eaten hundreds of thousands already? 😵😄
Every course would be a different burger, even dessert
Knowing him it'd be a collage of different burgers he liked and then some sides
Please! That would be a great convo & last meal. Not just burgers with George, guaranteed!
I’ve been to his restaurant in New York and it’s legit really good, not just him putting his name to it
@@ScoothofWrathchild He definitely seems like a great guy & wouldn't open a restaurant just for his name. I'm sure there was a lot of research put into the menu. What did you order, and what is one of the best non burger items?
Lima Ohio resident here and I’ve been waiting for you to talk about Kewpee! I’ve spied that Kewpee cup on your shelf in the background for quite a while now. Consider myself blessed to be around 3 of the 4 remaining ones. Even better that Josh was in this video cause I’m a big fan.
My dad's family is from Lima, and since I was young, every time we visited we made a pilgrimage to the one on Elizabeth. We used to stay at the old HoJo across from the Milano which my aunt's extended in laws owned.
I live near Lima, I thought there were only Two of them there. Where is the third and fourth one?
@@SilverFoxCooking The first one is in the middle of town on Elizabeth, the next two are at the east side and the west side. There's one in Racine, WI and one more in Michigan I believe.

From Ottawa but moved years ago…can’t go back home without stopping at Kewpee
So when is George's Last Meals episode???? I seriously need more of this collab!
Josh and George on the road visiting historical burger places.....That's the reality show I never knew I needed!
George: Its time to eat some burgers and I can tell you right now no one is more excited for this than I am.
Josh: I am! :)
George: NOT SCIENTIFICALLY POSSIBLE!
there is no way that im in the Kewpee drive thru line, and hopped on my phone to pass the time (because this line has gotten ridiculous over the past few years) only to see this episode. this is incredible. Ill be getting a double w cheese, fry, malt, and apple pie.. their pies are amazing.
My favorite part of this series is George burning himself and swearing. Just like most of us 😂
YES! George's content we need more.
I agree, there's never enough Motz content.
George is everyone's Burger Dad.
These two are the PERFECT pair! I could watch them every day discussing food history
Agreed!
best collab ever
shoo, get outta here you berd.
just kidding
you've been pranked on YourTubes
You ever sleep for 2 hours with a cold then work for 8?
Do not
George and his son lol loved it. Seriously mind blown with that cheesecake factory burger. Steak N Shake is a must when I'm in the midwest. So good!
A burger roadtrip with George Motz is a bucket list dream that will never come true. That would be epic.
For years, when I was young, I spent my Summers in Harbor Springs, Michigan. There was a restaurant there, Julerettes, that served Olive Burgers. I got hooked on them, and have been putting olives on my hamburgers for over 50 years.
Great comment.
Fun fact, there are actually these little mom and pop slider shops all over Michigan. Not just Greene's, I can think of five just in my immediate area. All of them from the 1950s or older.
Hunter House (the best), Bates, and Sonnys come to mind.
This collab gave me so much serotonin. Thank you to you both.
Inverted burger resting is the superior method, well done Josh.
Please drive around the midwest together! This video is one of the best on all of TH-cam.
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who wants to call George Motz, “dad.” 😂
Josh and George are such a good combo for this, just two geeks geeking out about their special interests.
I will watch every episode of this series.
I was not ready for the Citizen Kane reference. These two are phenomenal together.😂
Coach: "I would like to buy a hamburger."
Clouseau: "Ah wud lack te beh a am… bagga."
Coach: "No no no. Let’s break it down. I…"
Clouseau: "I’m not saying damburger. I said “I would like to buy a damburger” "No no we don't quit! I would like to buy hamburthur!"
-The Pink Panther
15:00 the same chaotic wavelength these two are on, cemented by the conversational grunts of burger assent. Seriously would be unsurprised if they adopted each other and Motz & fam show up at Josh's upcoming wedding.
A new George Motz video is better than Christmas.
Its impossible not to love George his passion for burgers! another great episode. do the roadtrip!
Josh out here impressing even the Burger Scholar with his food history knowledge. What a legend
So, I'm from Ohio, but right near the Michigan line. I also have family in central Michigan, and, any time I would go visit, I'd have an Olive Burger at this local diner. All these years later, I'm finding out that this delicacy from my childhood is a regional burger, and I'm filled with pride, because YEAH! the olive burger is that freaking delicious.
My long lost brother and fellow Josh and my hamburger Daddy in one episode.
Best day ever! 🎈
What’s funny is McDees started off as high quality burgers then the guy who franchised it drove that into the ground over time.
A crossover made in heaven. 2 people who truly appreciate food and food history.
Cute video. Reminds you how many of George's video's you've watched. "Why are we talking about this I remember this olive burger?" Ah! That was when he taught us about it. Now he's MAKING it. We've all learned more than we think from George!
Things I didn’t know I needed: Josh swearing. Like he is meant to and wants to lol
What is this, A CROSSOVER EPISODE?!?!?
Our burgers are square because "We don't cut corners"-Dave Thomas
I grew up eating Halo Burger and currently live 4 miles from Greene's. This episode is blowing my mind
Nice collab. Two of my favorite channels
Man I love olive burgers, you take two thin patties, american cheese, lettuce, tomato and that olive sauce, and you have the greatest burger ever. The Mr. Fabulous.(RIP)
So much intense and specific food history knowledge in one room. Iconic
@7:13 - proof that Josh doesn’t _have_ to slurp every bite of any food he eats. That was the quietest bite I have ever heard him take.
I remember having a olive burger in Michigan at a Hot n Now
Well now I'm sitting at work wishing I had some burgers for lunch..... Thanks George!!
As a Michigander olive burgers are absolutely amazing and coming from a small town we got our own hometown spot that makes em a mark above the rest
"Easy on the tini, I like to taste the choco"
If I could be half as funny and food-knowledgeable as Josh. He and George work so well together. George and Alvin already did their road trip series, but I'm all for George and Josh road trip series. Or at least more episodes of them together.
OK. I gotta be honest. I’m in love with these two guys. Yeah. You heard me say it out loud. I’m in love… Their enthusiasm fills my heart with joy! ❤🎉
I grew up eating Greene's sliders! They are the best and still around! Though there is a local burger feud between Greene's and Bate's burgers. Both have phenomenal burgers.
I live around the corner from Greene’s; it’s still epic and completely unchanged. Happy to see Michigan getting some love!
Met George for about 10 seconds outside his NY burger joint. What a cool guy!

Randy from trailer park boys was a burger scholar too. Heel on the cheese!
Been eating Greene's sliders since the day after they opened in 1957. Timeless landmark. They are the G.O.A.T. Thanks George!

Kewpee Burgers in Lima, Ohio is great! Love the burgers. And Greene's Burgers is still there! And we have a Motz's Burgers, too, in Detroit. Been there since 1929!
We need more Motz videos plz and thank you
Please do a George / Josh burger roadtrip. I would pay for that magical content.

i love how many hamburger lovers and founders spent time in michigan.
Going up in detroit metro is just so hard not to go out to eat everyday. It's a tacos and burgers paradise. Plus you know, coney islands.
Love the episode and hate to be that guy, but I got an itch and need to scratch it. Tony Iommi did play in Jethro Tull for a while, but he wasn't their first guitarist. They were already an established band when Iommi got the gig.
One note, as a former Steak ‘n Shake GM, we used a spatula to flatten out the burger. Another key point is, the spatula needs to be hot, or else the meat will stick to the bottom of the spatula.
Awesome episode! If only George knew about Josh's heat-proof hands haha.
I know that Josh generally has a great vibe with anyone he is with but this was just amazing watching these two interact. Their combined knowledge and willingness to let each other shine was tremendous. They both looked so comfortable chatting about what they love.
Saw josh and clicked so fast

Don’t know that guy. I clicked cause I’m autistic and burgers are one of my special interests. My #1 food of all time
I’m shocked that cheese on the bottom isn’t just a rule of burger making, it makes so much sense. When I get fast food like McDonald’s I gotta pry it open like Pandora’s box 😂 Love these videos man! They make me crave a burger so bad
I love Josh and George so much! This was a match made in heaven!
The 'lacy smashburger' was created by the one area on your map that you didnt give any credit to - northwest Indiana. Specifically Schoop's Hamburgers in Hammond, Indiana, which opened in 1948.
They remain extremely popular with dozens of restaurants in NW Indiana and a few in south Chicago.
George is back!!!!
I love it, whenever we get another edition of burger history from George Motz. We get the who, what, why, when, where, and how of burger history, and any lore that may go along with the particular burger. I've even been inspired by George to try some of these types of burgers, and the methods used to make them.
I close my eyes thinking about a square patty and I think white castle
Rock it out George & Josh, props to Michigan burgers especially!
Also please be a guest on Last Meals with Josh. I love the way you think and need to hear more
This is amazing! Hope my cooking channel grows like you guys channel has!

The perfect burger duo. I would love more episodes with Motz and Josh!
LIma, OH. the home of Kewpie and a must-stop every time I'm in that area! My wife's hometown.
I love all this Michigan stuff. My dad grew up going to Greene's. We have a few of those little white buildings (Hunter House, Telway) in the metro Detroit area. So good!
I love a great burger.
That said, for lunch I had a hotdog. 🤣
Would absolutely love to see more of these two! Perfect pair and so fun and funny to watch. New favorite show!
Of all of TH-cam or TikTok's food personalities, Josh is the only one that I feel would truly appreciate the level of burger trivia and historical knowledge that George can impart. I want Burger Scholar to educate Burger Student. Call the show Burger Student, you can have that one for free.
I have been wanting this collaboration for so long! These two are awesome!
Yes! Josh + Motz! Two people who live their life through food and its history!
My Papa liked his olive burgers with the blue cheese olives. Incredible, you gotta try it George.
I used to work at Wendy's years ago in my home town, and one thing they always told us, which was kind of a slogan, was "Our burgers are square because we don't cut corners."
I am from Kalamazoo and never knew that Dave Thomas spent time here! Also didn't know Cheesecake Factory had ties to Michigan and I don't think I've ever even heard of the Michigan Olive Burger
I was so disappointed in Weissman's video with George since he didnt let him talk - this is the perfect video
Josh is the type of guy you get excited to see when he walks through the door, but you're ready for him to leave 15 minutes later.
You use that "brick layers trowel" for Wendy's, because you do a "four corner press" on those square patties too. You press it enough but not too much. I can also confirm as a former grill man that you will fill up the grill with those square patties during lunch rush.
Y'all should come to my home town, Palatka, Florida, and have a patty melt at Florida's oldest diner, Angel's Dining Car. It's built inside an old train car. It's been in operation since 1932. They have the diner inside the train car with a counter and booths or you can do the classic drive in experience and have a curb hop bring the food to your car. They make a killer patty melt and great burgers, onion rings, and milk shakes. There's not much else to do in Palatka except maybe go to Ravine State Gardens but if you come during the Blue Crab Festival, it is a lot of fun and there'll be even more good food besides Angel's.
