My brother was cutting the grass of this local millionaire back on the early 70s. With the tractor he hit the above ground light and told the owner that his ground light hit the tractor. So the owner said, we’ll next time we must tell the light not to jump up and hit the tractor. The guy had a sense of humour. LOL

On top of that, a Cylon raider crashed on earth (Halloween night as a matter of fact) resulting in the Cylon Empire nearly discovering the location of Earth! Fortunately the survivors of the raider were thwarted from contacting the Empire and the centurion had fallen into a dumpster.
I speculate that the Cylon centurion was later discovered, reverse engineered and somewhat resurrected into the Knight 2000. (AKA KITT)

This was the last episode of Galactica 1980 to air. It didn't receive much fanfare because ABC had already consigned this show to the trashheap. Dirk supposedly did this show to retrieve some personal items he had in a napsack that was somewhere in the Universal studio.

Bad writing. Though it's also true he didn't have a repair manual, and food may have made getting off that planet more of an issue.
What's almost as stupid was that - as I recall - the girl/angel with the baby took a seat aboard the ship built from salvage that she wasn't going to keep, but suddenly appeared on the mountain to pronounce Starbuck officially "Good."

All I know is if I were Starbuck I wouldn’t stay stranded on a cold desolate planet with a perfectly good Cylon ship just sitting there. Like you said though, poor writing. If they wanted to keep Starbuck stranded then in the laser fight on the ground they could have had the ship take a laser hit that either badly damaged it or destroyed it.

It's funny, but almost every space opera tv show has an episode like this. U.F.O. and ST:TNG to name a couple. Also the movie Enemy Mine. It's a trope, but it's worth repeating. When you can't afford to be enemies, sometimes you become friends, at least for a little while. I would say though, that it never seems to work out in the long run for the non-human.

    • @jetuber

@jetuber U.F.O. was in 1970, but yes, certainly Arena is sort of in the same vein. They didn't become friends, but Kirk decided they didn't have to be enemies. Of course, that was only after he had the Gorn at his mercy. The original short story that episode was based on had a similar dynamic, but the set-up was quite different.

From a literary standpoint this reminds me of the 2nd terminator movie. In TERMINATOR an army of evil robots are trying to wipe out what remains of humanity after a holocaust and ONE of them is heroic and saves humanity and befriends the leader of the human resistance (John Connor)
And in BATTLESTAR GALACTICA the cylons are an army of evil robots trying to wipe out what is left of humanity after a holocaust and ONE of them befriends one of the main human characters (Starbuck).
And of course both the "good" Terminator and the "good" Cylon die heroically saving the lives of the human they have befriended.

They probably got somebody else to do the post processing on the voice and they didn't have the right gear and techniques. If you look around on TH-cam (sorry, don't remember the channel name) there's a series of videos where a fan tries to reproduce the original Cylon voice all of the same exact equipment and techniques as they did on the show. Long story short, it was a lengthy and pretty involved process starting with recording the actor on tape, then feeing into various pieces of audio gear using various settings. The sound engineer that worked on the show said that it was tricky to do and that they had a hard time keeping it consistent from episode to episode.

Or have the ship of lights orbs show up all around them to stop the fight. That would have freaked the centaurians out! So the woman came back to the planet with Starbuck and declared him good, so they picked them off and Starbuck joined the ship of lights.

History somewhat repeated, but this time, the human and the Cylon both made it back to safety. Didn't they? Or did the live Cylon ship not survive the journey? I can't remember. Wouldnt it make more sense to have had autonomous armed troup carriers that are fully self sustained and function as assault fighters and dropping off the Cylons at at their destinations rather than them flying it. Even in those years autonomy has been a concept so it wouldnt have been impossible

In the original series the cylons replaced their organic creators who were a reptilian race of some kind. I would persume that when they took over from their creators, they kept using the equipment left behind, which was made for humanoid beings. A lack of creativity could have been the reason why they never considered either automating ships, or putting cylon brains\processors directly interfaced into them, or maybe they just did not consider it practical, heck, the reason could have been that it would have been seen as too cruel even for them, to put a conscious being in a body that would just sit around for a long time.

In fact, if you read the novelization for "Gun on Ice Planet Zero," this was an idea that was invented and implemented by the Cylon Garrison Commander, Vulpa. However they only had a limited number of those remote raiders as the station on that planet was considered a lowly station, and the reason Vulpa was assigned there was as a temporary exile for him to try to redeem himself with. So he didn't have the resources he needed to have a full squadron of drone fighters.
