In my opinion, growing up with the 60s 70s 80s 90s music evolutions ,Ry Cooder is probably the most underrated yet most prolific musicians of our era ...especially with his style of deep south blues .,and his command of never sounding like anyone else ..and noone ever duplicated him...😎...
This is simply a masterpiece. A copy of this recording should be placed on a space probe and sent into the universe. Past and future discoverers and wanderers would be able to see just how sophisticated earth human arts music communication had become.
What he's singing about is a MESSAGE FROM the Universe , Read the Proverbs in the Bible , Earth has forgotten basic wisdom , who are we to teach the Universe anything ,When we can't even follow basic instructions from the Creator , Honour His creation , each other, The seed of our loins ,The womb ,a sanctuary for life , Then Watch our world heal , ani angela nz messenger AROHA NUI Endsoftheearth nz
Ry is, if nothing else, unique in his music style. I've heard a lot of music in 60 years, and some a little like Cooder, but nothing absolutely like his. It's not about good or bad, it's really about what you like. The man is a genius in music especially when you take in all the movie sound tracks he's done plus his world wide involvement in music around the globe. And it all has his signature sound.
First concert in my life I was 8 or 9 years old it was in Marseille 1979 or 80. It's a pleasure to see this again ... particulary this one !!!!! Long live to good music
Back in "88, I saw Ry Cooder do a live outdoor concert in Stockholm- he had Flaco Jimenez and the amazing black guys chorus. The Swedes were hoppin' and boppin'. One of the best shows I ever saw.
Deepest thanks to Mikkel for posting all these songs from this tour of such talented and genuine musicians...And thanks to Ry for making it all happen!
There was a great kind of 80s style Americana boom that happened...that's already almost lost to mists of time. From Ry Cooder, to Los Lobos, to the Texas Tornadoes, the Traveling Wilburys, Bruce Hornsby, the Little Feat comeback, the Neville Brothers, Chris Isaac, Lyle Lovett, Steve Earl, and many others .... There was a thread through all those artists and an identifiable sound that was purely American. A mix of blues, rock, pop, gospel, cajun, r&b, soul, country, dixieland, jazz, high school marching band, Texas swing, Tejano, Mexi-Cali, bluegrass, Gulf coast breezes, west coast sunshine, and swamp pop.... It was a great movement in music, that kinda came and went.
Dude, you get it! This movement hasn’t died, just slowed down by COVID. Most of the best American music from this era has been seen at small live venues.
I saw him with this line up at The Palace on Vine Street near the Capital building . It was right after he released his first digital LP. SMOKING HOT just like this. He's amazing !
It gets overlooked that Cooder has one of the ultimately greatest drummers in the world backing him up on most of his recordings and gigs, Jim Keltner. This is a really great example.
i bought the album "bop to you drop" when it first came out, i have loved every thing that he has done since then and before. he is a remarkbale muscian. respect him and compare him to no one other, he truly is a man ofgifted talents and everyone who loves guitar should listento him. the man loves to play
I was just thinking about Crazy Bout An Automobile in the last few days. Got to hear Ry in London in 81 with a fairly similar group and they were glorious, magnificent.
Rocker53zero,Yes this is a great one! You nailed it this time baby! I love it! Just what I needed to hear on a dreary Sunday afternoon Hugs & Kisses from the USA to Ireland XXXXO
I used to have a German EP with four (or six?) live tunes, circa mid-80s, that had great version of "Jesus on the Mainline" and KILLER version of "Look at Granny Run." Sadly, I lost it (and all my vinyl) when I lost my storage unit. If any Cooder fan ever finds this bit of vinyl, grab it at any price; you won't be disappointed!
Alexander Ziemann I saw him do this on the Old Grey Whistle Test (BBC tv music show) sometime in the mid 80's, it leaves all the versions on TH-cam in the shade, I wish somebody could upload the full concert, it was great.
Nearly same concert in France in 1988, with almost the same musicians and singers ; We were there and it was wonderful, magic, the first time I saw Ry live ; I wished it had no end...

Amen, amen amen!
Made 'her' poor too. Great song.
Drummer is superb.....
Jim Keltner !
Keltner is so great. Just an amazing drummer.
Keltner was Charlie Watts' drum tech for a while.
Yes, sir. Personally, he resides right alongside Hal Blaine in that Upper Chamber of innovators. Those two profoundly impacted my life's direction.
yes..........tim you got that BANG on xxx
My favorite bass player standing behind Ry, Jorge Calderon.
I remember driving the country roads headed to va for 6 point listening to the closer over and over in the late 70 early 80’s
Mr Cooder is a national treasure
Excellent, I will smoke another bowl & listen to this again! Ry Cooder Fuckin Rocks!
When Cooder and Keltner are on the stage it don't get much better than that!! Legand!!
This is such a great song!!!! Love Ry so much , so glad this video exists, had no idea.
EVERYTHING THAT MAKES YOU RICH..makes me poor ^5 Ry ..I will always come back for some of this wunneful guitar & rythym...always ..
This is simply a masterpiece. A copy of this recording should be placed on a space probe and sent into the universe. Past and future discoverers and wanderers would be able to see just how sophisticated earth human arts music communication had become.
Agreed. Should also have some early blues, gospel and jazz for context.
In this case..i love this present!
Wow. That might get lost. ✌
Agreed.
I have this on vinyl and CD. Ry Cooder is simply one of the hippest musicians on today's music scene.
Has this concert been released on vinyl?
I do so also

Ry Cooder, Mark Knopfler, Bob Brozman, J J Cale, tutti geni musicali
Smoking hot guitar and percussion syncopation. Guitar becomes a percussion instrument- brilliant.
Only just discovered Ry Cooder - Can't believe I have never heard of such a talented man before now! Fantastic music.
Ry cooder, you are an amazing musician. I have been listening to your music for years.
First concert in my life I was 8 or 9 years old it was in Marseille 1979 or 80. It's a pleasure to see this again ... particulary this one !!!!! Long live to good music

These men got rhythm, really marvellous. Cooder and friends forever.
And in the beginning there was >>>>> RY Cooder........oufffff been long time passing.. but you ARE the best & no one will ever compare to Ry xxxxxx
Back in "88, I saw Ry Cooder do a live outdoor concert in Stockholm- he had Flaco Jimenez and the amazing black guys chorus. The Swedes were hoppin' and boppin'. One of the best shows I ever saw.
Some things only get better with time...fine wine and Ry Cooder
I've seen this man in concert more than anyone else, every time he came to London, and worth every penny i spent.
How True, out in the universe this aught to spin and never return..
Great version!!! Very rich of soul and danceable!
Very true lyrics, great song.
Incredible! I have been hypnotised for 7 minutes, how have I only just witnessed this... Ry Cooder and this band are Everything.

Incredible as always. A national treasure.
Those harmonies..honey over rocks
Nobody does it better than Ry Cooder. The Best! Much Respect

Keltner and Cooder are an unstoppable and unbeatable (no pun intended) force. Great post! THANK YOU
Ry Cooder is a master of good music - decades and on and on.....
Cool dude in a loose mood...great song one my favorite of Ry's..
"On fire" is exactly what they is!!!
I saw him with this line up at The Palace on Vine Street near the Capital building . It was right after he released his first digital LP. SMOKING HOT just like this. He's amazing !
I had so much fun watching and listening to them have so much fun. And thanks for listing the band and the singers - that is all too rare.
It gets overlooked that Cooder has one of the ultimately greatest drummers in the world backing him up on most of his recordings and gigs, Jim Keltner. This is a really great example.

My all time favorite album Ever Bob till you drop! This live version is even better. And im from 1981 This music is universial
A talent that's been around for a long time yet is unknown by so many. The only thing better is when he plays with David Lindley
Simly Great !!!
Love this track.
Saw the movie when it came out! Blew me away! Killin‘ it! ❤️🔥
Tell it, bruthah. Cooder is a veritabel god.
hoo da drumma? Great work!
+Jim Cavanagh Jim Keltner
OMG it's Ry Cooder!!!!
Thanks for that valuable info. XXX Hazel
Had many a good time at the CATALYST.
One of the most versatile and under rated musicians around. This is a bit rough around the edges, the studio version is epic
you're so right - the studio version does this a little more justice - this groove is a little to complicated to perform live
Alexander Ziemann 100% agree with you. The rest of that album is pretty solid too !
Alexander Ziemann
I saw him do this on the Old Grey Whistle Test (BBC tv music show) sometime in the mid 80's, it leaves all the versions on TH-cam in the shade, I wish somebody could upload the full concert, it was great.
Lordy.
