Back in the 80s when I was still living in Santa Fe NM Flaco played there twice, once with the Texas Tornadoes and then with his guys. I got to meet and talk with him. Nicest man imaginable.
So good! Great back-up singers and the brilliance of Ry Cooder! He's got more spirit and soul in his little finger than 95% of today's rockers, always had it, but just didn't do all the fluffy promotion. Just a naturally talented composer and musician with his own vision. Lovin Ry Cooder for over 50 years!
Oh yeah, I was lucky to be at The Catalyst for this show. Mind boggling how great it was. If memory serves me well, this was also around the time that Ry and his band opened for Bruce Hornsby and The Range and The Grateful Dead at Laguna Seca, but I could be wrong. Regardless, when Ry & co did open for Hornsby and The Dead, whatever date it was, I remember Hornsby & his mates sitting on one side of the stage, and The Dead sitting on the other, and when Ry & his band just tore it up, Bruce, Jerry, and Bobby were just shaking their heads and smiling in amazement. So fun So damn good!❤
RC has had some great bands ,but this was the all time greatest line up ! We got to see this show a couple of times in the bay area. So lucky! Thanks to every one of the guys in the band. Good as it gets!
From early on and evermore playing today!! Ry Cooder has taken music of so many varieties and colors to some many ears who appreciate great grooves, stories, and tremendous improvisation!! Muahs RY!! Don't stop!! Don't stop!! Never Stop!!!
Never passed up an opportunity to catch Ry Cooder or David Lindley / El Rayo X when they would raise the roof @ The Catalyst in Santa Cruz from Fall '84 on... Good Times!
Some baaad blues goin' on down in holly wood US o' A. Love the rearrangement Ry throws here for the 'Borderline'/'Get Rhythm' era ensemble. Flacco forever ❤❤. Lucky live audience, lawd ha' mercy.
Another musical Legend that i was introduced to as a youngster due to my Dad's love of Rock n Roll and a little blues , Cooder was one cool cat, it's funny but I imagine him to be like an Eminem of his Era in regards to being a white guy with an outstanding talent and passion for a marvelous style of black music .
Ry was interested in all kinds of music;that why i followed him since the 60's..check out his playing in Buena Vista Social Club(1996).he travels to Cuba(via Mexico) & records with Cuban musicians
Did Jim Keltner play in EVERY great touring band, and EVERY great studio record of the 70's and 80's?? The guy is everywhere! Fine, fine stuff. Thanks for sharing cristian julian coco!
Thank you Cristian for down loading or up loading I'm not even close to being a geek lol But been a fan of Ry Cooder since his first album....and still listening to his currant music. But this one is one of my fav songs and one of my fav recordings. Never saw him live but thank god for youtube I can continue to appreciate his music and words. Thank you again, and many happy music filled days left in your life.
Huge thanks! Bought Bop til u drop on pink vinyl years ago, changed my life but had never seen this live stuff before. Amazing, wonderfully understated solos too- nothing to prove. Can I borrow this band please? Stu X
I got lost in LA one night...I was supposed to be heading home to Arizona...but because I tend to be directionally challenged, from time to time, I was driving and all the lights disappeared...it wasn't long where I deducted that, because there were no lights in one direction, I had probably run into the ocean...and I needed gas, too, so I stopped at this station that came off as "you're in the hood now, Bobby"...hahaha! Nobody gave me any grief, though...they were probably like "yeah, these "I don't know which way I'm going" kind end up here from time to time...was born in SoCal, too, so one might think I'd know better...I think it was in the '80's, haha!
yep that's classy; that cover was to prevent beginners from accidently muffling all the strings & also to move your hand to the better plucking position closer to the neck heel
I stopped there on a Sunday , on the way back to Phoenix in '74. Nobody there but us and 10 cops at a donut shop , and we all left feeling like we had done something......wrong....btw we were in our last year in the USAF.. Must have been our short hair.................
Great performance but would like a long version without the band introduction. Where to find that? Though it is a collection of superb musicians whose names should be known to a wider audience.
The great Flaco Jimenez on Accordion with Ry. RIP Flaco. I've heard from many he was the nicest man. Happy Earth Day! 4-22-23. Peace & Love. 🥰✌💚❤💛💙
Thought he was still alive.
@@stephensuddick1896 He is.....

Probably my favorite Ry Cooder song, but it's tough, there's so many.
Jim keltner keeping the groove. What a down and dirty song.
DO TT GET BETTER THAN THIS? THIS IS THE TOP OF THE TOP. IT'S A LONG CLIMB UP TO REACH THIS ALTITUDE. MANY HAVE FAILED..THEY DIDN'T
RY Cooder Is brilliant, the guys in the band are magical !
RC has had some great bands ,but this was the all time greatest line up ! We got to see this show a couple of times in the bay area. So lucky! Thanks to every one of the guys in the band. Good as it gets!
Ry has been the greatest of musicians for one helluva long time!
What an amazing blend. Funky blues rock funky Mexican jazz funk, think I said funk already. 🤘🤘✌️🚬
Thank's for putting this "LIVE" version of this on here !
Ahhh. Keltner. Timeless in time. This band is sublime.
Righteous drummer and background vocals. I caint stop my feets from movin!

"Bob til' you drop" was my first Ry Cooder album. Many more since!
One of my Favorite Record Albums, but on my Disc player. I blast it out in the garage . Make'n the Day a better Day. Tinker'n!
Can't tell you how much I love this one!
Every time I watch this it is: WOW!
wonderful concert! how nice it would be if all life had just music!
Never passed up an opportunity to catch Ry Cooder or David Lindley / El Rayo X when they would raise the roof @ The Catalyst in Santa Cruz from Fall '84 on... Good Times!
Ahh, the Catalyst. I had to employ a defensive fart one night to discourage a homeless dude on my way to my car after a night there.
The solos are just brilliantly understated.....these guys know how to do it.
pretorious700 Right on the money!
100%
They're standing on the corner waiting for someone like me. Great concert.

Incredible, band incredible groove. I long for time travel just to see Ry and this band right then...
+James Jatkevicius When you find that time machine, will you please come by and pick me up?

Brilliant all the way to Kenya. From Hollywood u.s.a. great performance
That's what I call an epic JAM.
Hot Damn! These cats are cookin’!

s lee he is something I don't know why
i think so. the man is ace
Pretty much. Every one of those records, every one of those tours, you could flip a coin. Heads, it was Jim Keltner. Tails, it was Steve Gadd.
Pro tip : you can watch movies at kaldrostream. I've been using them for watching a lot of movies these days.
@Antonio Judson yup, been using kaldroStream for since december myself :)

What a blast:):)
Great song to boogie to. Ry is just so good for so long
Raw, funky, sweaty groove. Screw the jumbo trons, auto tune vocals and laser shows- this is what it's all about chill-ren.
FUCKIN' AY!

i saw Flaco at the Band on the Wall in Manchester long ago. You had to dance
maravilloso
Sublime! 🤩
There are TWO rock memoirs I'd like to see....Ry's is one, JIM FREAKIN' KELTNER is the other....can you imagine the stories?
amen

you had a good night sir, what a story! glad it ended up ok.
Fantastic.........
Flaco 🤩
Flaco is great! he was the swirling sound of the band & i bet he turned Ry on to a lot of different ways to play ~counterpoint~ to his playing...
Sounds like a moonshine label.
Ry Cooder. 100% 🇳🇿
Look out I can't stop my feets!
Used to be a cover of Christina Lakewood & band on this song. Long and hypnotizing jam. Cant find it now :(
Fabulous ❤
Jorge kept the Fender “F” bridge cover on his Jazz Bass - too cool, like the rest of this amazing band.
yep that's classy; that cover was to prevent beginners from accidently muffling all the strings & also to move your hand to the better plucking position closer to the neck heel
soul brothers!
Stellar.
Einfach gutbringt deinen Körper zum vibrieren❤❤❤
Funky Flaco!
Just a dream!!!
LLLLLOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A genius
14:15 Jaw-dropping!
Only thing missing is Chaka...
🏴☠️🦅🏴☠️
does any body think he practiced A LOT!
Only 34,741...why?
This song convinced me not to go to Hollywood.

Has a Ked Mo flavor. The itch
How do u define it
Who’s funkier than Ry?????
how to write a song to be platform; there it is.
A young Arnold McCuller before his 40 year stint with James taylor
They told me drugs are bad but i think maybe not as bad as some espouse.
Randy Newman on bass?
Jorge Calderon, I think, who played with David Lindley.
And Warren Zevon.
Jorge Calderon.
@@francoisebeylie2923 Thanks. If I waited a bit, I would have found out for myself when Ry introduced the band members.
Y Not?
Just came here as a palate cleanser after seeing the horrible Bruce Willis cover of this song.
Poor Ry must be tormented what with all this #Winning and #MAGA.
Great performance but would like a long version without the band introduction. Where to find that? Though it is a collection of superb musicians whose names should be known to a wider audience.
on the album
Really nothing groundbreaking or special. Okay,,, Just another night for these guys.
