You know what the best part about the cigar sniffing part of the plot is? Even if you have completely avoided the gas station and never met Dogmeat, he still shows up for that cigar mission. Bethesda thought it was impossible for the player to not have met Dogmeat.

He knows what the great war was, he just didn't realize that's the war the protagonist was talking about. As the protagonist isn't a ghoul, it's far more rational to assume that the player is talking about some other war.
The Atom Cats, though having potential of being a good faction, are very similar to Fallout 3's Tunnel Snakes and have little no to impact on the game whatsoever. They're just another small group of people in the wasteland.

MadCourier 6 good point apart from weapon customization being new, it was in NV. The weapon mods were rare but fucking powerful and useful, in fallout 4 they're just shit tier
MadCourier 6 The story is fine, the only thing to be missed about skills is speech which could easily be done with charisma, ending slides are stupid because having an ending that tells you the future and slaps you back an hour is stupid, there are plenty of quests that aren’t fetch quests. Just because there are enemies involved doesn’t make the quest bad. The world is the most alive of any modern Fallout game.
I really liked the settlement building, aswell as getting more settlements, until 6 of my settlements all got attacked in one session and I lost them all... because... immersion. I mean really, in the middle of a side quest to kill raiders, then suddenly I have to kill more raiders or I'll lose settlements. It's just a raider killing simulator.

Dogmeat has always been immortal. He died by running into a wall of lasers in Fallout 1, then got pissed off that nobody waited for him to respawn so he waited at a cafe for you to find him in Fallout 2. 4 is simply the first game where he doesn't get insulted that you let him die and proceed to play dead until you're gone.
When I met adult Shaun (Sean? Shawn?) I immediately shot him in the face, and broke the game. It was annoying. Then the synth one begged me to let him come as the Brotherhood blew up the Institute, I laughed and left him to die. Never cared about you anyway, random annoying storyline.

If Obsidian had the financial backing to buy the franchise it would be great but I worry that the next Fallout game made by Bethesda will be even worse than this.
Obsidian is great at storytelling and the projects they have been doing fit perfectly with their skills (PoE/Tyranny). AAA titles usually wind up stretching them too much as you can tell theres a lot they want to do they simply can't (example fallout NV).
I don't believe that the people over at Obsidian are too interested in dealing with Bethesda after what happened with New Vegas. It's unlikely that Bethesda would be willing to give up such a big, money-making property anywy.

The Institute and Railroad as a whole are kind of really stupid factions. I would say the factions would be better if you replace the Railroad with the Brotherhood of Steel in terms of how they operate and size. Replace the Brotherhood of Steel arriving on a giant dick zeppelin showing it all off with the Enclave since it makes more sense the Enclave would be more flashy. Now frankly I think it would also be better if the Enclave are the ones replacing people with Synths as well, it makes more sense because they actually have a reason to do it... They could create a shadow government that they can control and cast any blame onto the Institute. The Institute can take on the role the Railroad had and capture synths in Enclave control and such. The Railroad can just go away, they don't really have any purpose.
Benny The Kid The Enclave in theory should operate very shady things under the table while appearing very noble to the general public, very much like a Mafia syndicate or fairly corrupt politicians would do.
You ought to remember, the Institute technically works for the Enclave, i.e. they are simply continuing to work on the projects the Enclave ordered 200 years ago. So, in a way, the Enclave is the one replacing people, or, I should say, the Institute is doing it on Enclave's behalf. (just like Big MT did on the west coast)

The Institute and Railroad as a whole are kind of really stupid factions.
I would say the factions would be better if you replace the Railroad with the Brotherhood of Steel in terms of how they operate and size.
Replace the Brotherhood of Steel arriving on a giant dick zeppelin showing it all off with the Enclave since it makes more sense the Enclave would be more flashy. Now frankly I think it would also be better if the Enclave are the ones replacing people with Synths as well, it makes more sense because they actually have a reason to do it... They could create a shadow government that they can control and cast any blame onto the Institute.
The Institute can take on the role the Railroad had and capture synths in Enclave control and such. The Railroad can just go away, they don't really have any purpose.

Benny The Kid The Enclave in theory should operate very shady things under the table while appearing very noble to the general public, very much like a Mafia syndicate or fairly corrupt politicians would do.
You ought to remember, the Institute technically works for the Enclave, i.e. they are simply continuing to work on the projects the Enclave ordered 200 years ago. So, in a way, the Enclave is the one replacing people, or, I should say, the Institute is doing it on Enclave's behalf. (just like Big MT did on the west coast)
