Love this book! th-cam.com/users/postUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. Amazon was great, they delivered on time. Thank you!
Your ability to plan a cut list, keep them organized and the fact that they fit is outstanding. Instead of cutting off the hinge screws doubling up the ply would with a small square of ply would make me feel better. Great job Mate.
Thanks homie. Yea layering up the plywood for the hinge screws would definitely be an alternate solution. I went with cutting off the screws to maximize space inside the cabinet
Ben, I sure enjoy your videos, your ideas and your pets. I think you are ready though to start making use of joinery. Nails and glue have their place and make any project a lot quicker to complete but they are a compromise in the strength of your end product. For example, those 5 one gallon paint cans probably weigh in at about 50 lbs. they might hold up for a week or a year but the use of some dados would insure their strength for as long as you keep the cabinet. Another recommendation is to consider upgrading your small portable table saw fo a full size one. Either a good contractors saw with a good fence and with at least a 2 hp motor or a cabinet saw with a larger motor. If you ever move on to working with hardwoods you’ll really appreciate the extra weight, accuracy and power and wonder why you didn’t go for one sooner. Buying new is not necessary. You can shop on Craigslist for good quality tools and get a fine saw for 1/4 - 1/2 of new cost. Keep up your well done videos and best wishes with your projects. BTW, YT has loads of well done woodworking projects that display excellent techniques employing many different styles of quality joinery. Norm Abrams has hundreds of projects from his 21 years on PBS.
Enjoying your videos! May I suggest you consider using a push rod when using a table saw! Like six million people a year are injured using that piece of equipment!! Great job on your workshop!
It is sometimes surprising how strong glue is. I had some cabinets that were built around forty years ago that were built with finishing nails and glue. Even taking them apart on purpose to recycle the wood was a little difficult. In many places, the wood broke before the glue joint and the glue joints that did give looked like they were either a little starved for glue or not pulled tightly together when the cabinet was built. The person that built them was working with only a hand saw and nails. I don't think they even had a bar clamp.
Enjoy this video. Especially like the "French Cleat" video as well. Have you done a video on the "tools of the trade" for your workshop? I'd be interested to see your shop tools and a tour of the new shop as well.
Next time you do French cleat consider insetting the back the cleat thickness so the cabinet perimeter is flush to the wall “no critters trying to make a home behind the cabinet”. Your really good with your assistant, patient and loving. We couldn’t help at chuckle watching you study your plan - the nervous leg giggle, goes with OCD. I am really jealous of the Baltic birch inside covering, I have a difficulty getting that material. You will have many years of enjoyment, looking forward to marble machines.
Hahahahaah. First of all … I love the “ideas” you gave me for building my own custom cabinet. When I search videos I’m not expecting to find an end all to my search … I am looking for better suggestions than I might have at the time. You definitely provided that. I went thru every comment for your build and definitely came away with a few to incorporate. Some of the other “experts” that comment are the reason you will never find a build of mine on YT. Let’s see … how much did I spend to watch a video you painstakingly put together??? And I really did have to laugh at the one comment that said your “technical difficulties” at the end were too long …. Hahhahah! I guess there was no way to move on to another video …. MUST WATCH TO THE END. Lol. Thank you for all you did to put this together. It helped me and cost me only the time I chose to spend. Best of luck to you
So I decided to take on a similar build for all my paint....I have a work bench and some drawers under my belt so far and those came out pretty good. I failed to pay attention to the different assembly of the doors compared to the cabinet and made them an inch short and half inch narrow. Lesson learned🤣
Great project. I need to make myself one of these too. I would recommend that you use some of the scraps from this project to make yourself some push sticks for when you are using the table saw. Yep, I'm "that guy". I know you are safe, but you made me nervous.
Nice build. Really like the cabinet. Not sure I would have cut the screws off on the hinge though. Instead I think I would have added a block on the inside to give them something to bite into. Keep up the good work
a guy fitting out his shop, meh that’s cool A guy hanging out with his dog in his shop, sign me up. Favorite part of the 3 videos I have watched? The blooper reel with the dog!!!
You should drill a few holes at the bottom and more at the top so the paint fumes can escape. Also, I don't kow where you are located but in Florida paints have to go in a Metal Flammables cabinet, so keep an eye out for the Fire Marshall.
Brilliant design, however, as you mentioned, a work bench should be top of your list, then a mitre saw stand or station... it will save you in the long run and you will get jobs done quicker!
Without your supawvisor 🐶 your chance of mistakes rises up to 0,15% and the level of cuteness falls 99,9%! 😂😂😂 just joking, my father used to have a workshop and our little dog would steal every tiny small piece of any wood that fell down. It is great to have these little supervisors around 🥰🥰🥰🥰
DAMN BRO! I have been looking all over TH-cam for something exactly like this. YOU DID IT! Thank you. The only thing I would consider changing/adding is a place for spray paint cans BUT, other than that this thing is perfect. I totally want to try and make it. Do you post plan details anywhere for download? Just found you but I like the realness of your projects. You are using super expensive tools and you don't have some fancy-ass shop. Just real woodworking. Keep grinding, I'll be watching!
That is a lot better than the stacks of paint cans I have on the floor of my garage. Paint utensils are randomly tossed into a large plastic bowl. Have you considered getting a second floof to keep your other one occupied? You probably now understand why cats getting cuddly on a keyboard while you're working is cute, but frustrating.
So awesome! Love the precision and planning of this build. Turned out so nice. Your pup is the cutest! What a cuddler! 😁💓 Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family.
Very nice build. I think if you would have taken off the "doors" that would have cut your weight in half for when you was trying to put the cabinet in place.
Have you ever tried building a box and then cut it down the middle into a door and back to make a cabinet? Of course, you don't have to cut it down the middle, depending on your needs. I have seen so many people build a cabinet that way. Just curious. Great sidekick, you have there and really cute too!
Any chance you’d have some plans for this? I’m still in the measure twice, cut once, measured wrong, waste a lot of wood phase of learning. But I would love to have this in my garage. The wife has every room of the house a different grey. So I got lots of paint products to store.
Those are brad nails, and I use them with half inch ply because screws would difficult to use. The nails mostly just hold the pieces together while the glue dries. The glue has all the strength
Hi, how is the cabinet holding up? This looks perfect for my next project but I worry about the weight on the doors on the hinges. Any tips before I begin?
It’s still holding up great! Definitely don’t skimp on the hinges (use heavy duty) and consider using 3/4 inch plywood instead of the 1/2 inch that I used.
@@BenTardif thanks so much for the reply. Gives me more confidence, as I imagine it's quite heavy. I will reply in a few weeks when I manage to have time to tackle the project, on how it goes. Thanks again!
You can always tell how good an owner is by how their dog acts around them. This is one very happy dog! :)

Not only are you a fab woodwork, you're also a good doggy dad. Brilliant on the lifting system on your own.
Yes I agree!! There's something to said about "Unconditional Love" Very Cool!! oh yeah, very nice design!!

Nice to see that the shop is coming together and the dog is very cute.
Love your little dog!!!!
Honestly I melt in love with your technical difficulties". So adorable!
Enjoying your videos! May I suggest you consider using a push rod when using a table saw! Like six million people a year are injured using that piece of equipment!! Great job on your workshop!
Wow, I never would have guessed that glue and brads are enough to hold those shelves with the large cans of paint. Good to know.
The glue does all the work. Brads are there to hold it while the glue cures
It is sometimes surprising how strong glue is. I had some cabinets that were built around forty years ago that were built with finishing nails and glue. Great project and assistant!! You have a great bond with mans best friend.
This turned out great
Love this cabinet and love watching you with your doggie. Guys who are nice to dogs are serious babe magnets.
What a dog lover,I could watch this forever
You are Extremely gifted and skilled. Thank you for your DYI video projects they are Inspiring.

Awesome project, as always! Doofie worships you! So precious!
Nice! I love your ideas. Flammables should be in metal cabinets and AWAY from electrical panels.
I'm green you're my HERO
No matter what. Pets are still amazing. 👍👍👍
"Hello, I am Mr. Doofie, your professional assistant.. how can I help you?" 😁😁😁
Great planning. Congrats.

Oh, it's sooo organised!... 😍 I need this) And the technical difficulties part is adorable)) Thank you!
Came for inspiration to build stuff, stayed for the dog. SO CUTE!
You have the patience of Job with Doofie! What a great dog Dad!
Beautiful cabinet. Excellent build.
Good job
This is awesome. Thx for sharing!
OMG that dog is adorable!!
Great shelf too! Very well done! Your dog totally steals the show though. :)
Doofy is the actual star of this channel. LOL!! Love the paint cabinet.

A guy hanging out with his dog in his shop, sign me up.
Favorite part of the 3 videos I have watched? The blooper reel with the dog!!!
Very nice work, sir! Have you considered showing you getting your ideas onto paper, and paper into sketch-up?
Good job. Upvoted for the dog!!
Nice job! If you ever have to build another one you may want to make your shelves movable, that may give you even more flexibility

I love your furry shop supervisor.
Really enjoying your videos lately
Nice craftsmanship 💯
From this project, the dog is the best! :-)) Thanks for sharing.
Very cool bud 😎
Love the little dog❤️
Nice work....look forward to your nexy video...keep up the good work. Greetings from belgium
Where you have video, when you make your workbench , this small with open and closed wall ? and 4 boxes inside?
I find lifting large heaving items a cinch with a floor jack. You just need to do it in 20" increments.
The OCD is strong with this one.. Very inspiring though, love your work, keep it up!
I love your organization!
That is awesome Ben! Love it!
Pupper is just helping, dawwwww! 🥰
Really enjoyed that work and your fury friend :)
Good work!
Damn!!!!!!!!!! That's Great!!!!!
Brilliant design, however, as you mentioned, a work bench should be top of your list, then a mitre saw stand or station... it will save you in the long run and you will get jobs done quicker!
Also if you 45 degree bevel the inside of the two doors there would be less friction
I’ll definitely be using your design for my shop tho!! Brilliant

Omgoodness you are going to be such a great dad
LOL the light cover falling off made me laugh great video
You reeeally need a workbench. Looking forward to the video.
How many space do you have between each shelve
i love your assistant, you should hire him. :-)

Nice work and nice channel BTW! :) Love it :)
Any chance on a cut list?
My 125 lb Rottweiler does the “whatcha doing daddy?” To me too... too damn cute 🥰🥰🥰
dope! digging your videos. keep it up!
Hello, I don't have much workspace, do you have plans of the workbench?
Ben. You have plans for this cabinent??
I really like the design of the paint storage, helped me finalize my own storage solution. Thanks
so cute the dog.. 🤣
Loved this video! Can’t wait for the doghouse!
Ben, I don't know if you made that table you used in the video...but i would love if you made a video of how to make one.
That gate leg table with the drawers in the center is from IKEA
Very nice build. I think if you would have taken off the "doors" that would have cut your weight in half for when you was trying to put the cabinet in place.

Have not tried that method though it would certainly work!
How do you cut so straight without a guide when using circular saw? I love your videos I’m learning SO MUCH!
Practice makes perfect! A good blade can make all the difference, also just go very slow. Everything is sped way up in the video
I would love a material/cut list.
Any plans for this?! I love it and could use it for my shop aka the half of my garage the wife lets me use?
Robert Giltner if you pause at 2:37 he shows his cut list. happy building!
Any chance you’d have some plans for this? I’m still in the measure twice, cut once, measured wrong, waste a lot of wood phase of learning. But I would love to have this in my garage. The wife has every room of the house a different grey. So I got lots of paint products to store.
You should sell your plans. As a .pdf with assembly instructions, cut list, materials, etc...
Also do you mostly prefer always using a nail gun over screws when building boxes and stuff?
And sorry last question is that a Normal size nail gun or Brad nail gun? Thanks so much❤️
Those are brad nails, and I use them with half inch ply because screws would difficult to use. The nails mostly just hold the pieces together while the glue dries. The glue has all the strength
When do you start working in the house again, or is everything done in the house?
Nice to see things are staying relatively organized with all that ballin' going on in the shop!😂
how did you figure out the weight would be good with 1 cleet ?
Hi, how is the cabinet holding up? This looks perfect for my next project but I worry about the weight on the doors on the hinges. Any tips before I begin?
It’s still holding up great! Definitely don’t skimp on the hinges (use heavy duty) and consider using 3/4 inch plywood instead of the 1/2 inch that I used.
@@BenTardif thanks so much for the reply. Gives me more confidence, as I imagine it's quite heavy. I will reply in a few weeks when I manage to have time to tackle the project, on how it goes.
Thanks again!
Step 1: measure
Step 2: design
Step 3: lay out items
Step 4: move doggo out of the way
Every time!
Ben, you are wise beyond your years, Thank you for sharing all these projects with us!
After a while people (that's 'me', watching your playlist) start to think that "Technical Difficulties" are the names of your 4-legged children.
Now we know why Doofie interrupts you lol. You’re the one who starts it 😂
5 paint cans seems like a lot of weight for 1/2” plywood shelves? Have you noticed them starting to sag at all?
I agree. Shelves only held up with nails and glue and no support. Looks good but doubt it'll hold up in the long run
I wonder how this will attach to the wa... AAAaaand, french cleats!
BELLO E INTERESSANTE VIDEO.
