Make sure to watch this video before you start cutting! I assumed the scissor icon on the plan meant I should cut along that line. I ended up cutting two pieces in half and needed to use another piece of leather to do it right.
I see this a ton with bags like this. It's really just ease of assembly since you don't have to reach inside during every stitch. It's easy enough to do them matching (I did), just a bit more awkward on the stitch.

Why did you lap the front side but not the back side? Is it just aesthetics?
