Self-Binding Baby Blanket // EASY Beginner Sewing Tutorial

- These blankets make great baby shower gifts, and are super easy to make! The back wraps around the front fabric to make a border, which is easier to do than you think. You can use any kind of fabric you want, but I’m partial to flannel and minky. If you’re looking for a fast, easy, beginner sewing project - this is it!
//TIPS FOR SUCCESS
- Sometimes the extra fabric in the corners can poke out, especially after you wash it. To prevent this, make your border two inches or less. You can also sew a straight line down the open edge of the corner with a matching thread to close it up.
- If you use a slippery/stretchy fabric (like minky or jersey knit), use LOTS of clips/pins to help prevent the fabric from moving.

//CUTS:
31”x31” square for top (x1) - make slightly bigger for a lap blanket
35”x35” for back & border (x1) - Makes a 2” border
HOW BIG TO CUT THE BACK: Take the number of inches you want your border to be, multiply by 2, then add that number to how big you cut the front.
EXAMPLE: If you want a 3” border and you cut the front to 31” by 31,” then you need to cut the back fabric to 37”x37.”

I love to drink and sew. I'm so excited to find you!
Oh this is so much easier! I have been looking for ways to sew easier minky blanket. Love this. Thank you for the tutorial.
Great job I love how easy it was and how much you took your time explaining
I am newly retired and new to sewing. I'm expecting my first granddaughter from one of my twin boys. I love this and have a lot of flannel fabric on hand (forget why I bought it all) and assuming that this cute blanket can be made with any fabric? TIA!!
I love how you took the time to explain some of the concepts. I’ve been looking for a simple tutorial to follow and you’re the one that I’m going with!
I just finished making the blanket and it looks great! Thank you for the tutorial!
Thank you! I’m so glad!! 😁
Looks so easy like easy things

11:22 Just the video I was looking for to see a baby blanket for a friend. Thank you for a great tutorial!!
Beautiful video Thank you for sharing Blessings. To all
Thanks! My blanket turned out darling ❤
Thanks for the tutorial. Can some fabric be trimmed down to make the miter corner flatter?
Im new to sewing is the minky material stretchy
I have similar fabric and I noticed your design is not running up and down. My fabric is cut the same so I guess it will be ok, though I prefer the design fabric to be running up and down length wise,
A little confused on your measurements, you said for a 2in border add 4”, giving 2 inches all the way around. When you fold the fabric in, then over you end up with a 1” border. Wouldn’t I need to add 8 inches so that I have 4 inches to fold in half for a two inch border?
How many times did you say “super”?
Probably too many 😂 You never know how many verbal tics you have until you film yourself 😬
A coworker pointed out that instead of saying “you’re welcome” I always say “you got it”. Now that I’m aware of it…it’s kind of funny
The drink thing drives me crazy !!
Spoils your tutorials !!!!
How does it spoil it ?
