    What's the main and other uses of Boilers in ship.
    Nice video btw.

    • @Wolfgang227
      @Wolfgang227  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, I forgot to show our boiler. The main use is for heating the heavy fuel oil in the bunker tanks, along all fuel pipes, at the filter and separators and at the main engines. Other uses are for chasing Somali pirates, see my video: th-cam.com/video/qdDfyBGSOb8/w-d-xo.html and all sort of heatings, e.g. cabins, water, etc. On tanker ships you can find huge boilers and steam driven cargo pumps. On one tanker we had a steam turbine to produce electricity. Steam turbines as main propulsion you cannot find anymore, they are not so efficient. I was on one tanker where the winches were driven by steam, but I think such things you cannot find anymore.

    • @Neo-po2xw

      @@Wolfgang227
      Nice explanation.
      So steam turbines are not used in Cargo ship anymore.
      But they are still used in Tankers and other LNG carriers.
      BTW is Heavy Fuel Oil is same is diesel oil?
      Also if there is any good tour/interior video of boilers, please do share!!
      Thanks for reply 👍.

    • @Wolfgang227
      @Wolfgang227  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Neo-po2xw Heavy fuel and diesel oil are very different. HFO needs to be heated to about 120 degree celsius before it can be injected into the engine. If cold it can become solid like Asphalt.
      Boiler videos I do not have, for a long time I did not work on tanker ships.

    • @Wolfgang227
      @Wolfgang227  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Neo-po2xw All big ship diesel engines are started the same way, compressed air between 15 to 30 bar is injected into the combustion chamber until the engine is turning enough to inject diesel oil. In my other video th-cam.com/video/V-co2sP_KyQ/w-d-xo.html (at 4:10) you can see the air compressors and the air reservoirs.

    • @Wolfgang227
      @Wolfgang227  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, the variable pitch propellor is controlled from the bridge. Nevertheless, during manoeuvring one engineer is standby at the engine controls to observe the manoeuvres and to engage if anything goes wrong. Also the load on the twin engines needs to be balanced manually.

      That should not be difficult, Just enter in your browser search engine: “Crew Recruitment”, “Ship crew recruitment” “Ship crew agent” or something similar and you should find enough information. A good place would also be a marine school or maritime collage somewhere near your place. Anyhow you will need some maritime education, to enter a ship, even as a helper you would need the minimum certificates as: First Aid, Fire fighting, Life saving, etc. Go ahead, nothing can stop you, only you yourself.
