Hi everyone - the next upload should be the 'History of Asia' preview. I was hoping to get it up earlier, but it's taken longer than expected to complete. It is currently finished up to 221 BCE.

Vietnam is the only state which defeated Mongols for three times. Mongol empire /yuan dynasty sent about 500,000 soldiers(including vassal army)into Vietnam and lost the war still in the last one. Comparativly, mongols conquered the west land with only 30,000-100,000 soldiers. Love from China~

FYI, CHAMPA (Austronesian Chams') kingdom was from central to south of Vietnam. Specifically, most North Central Coast of Vietnam, South Central Coast/Central Highlands of Vietnam & some parts of South Vietnam were LINYI/CHAMPA kingdoms (Malayo-Polynesian/Austronesian people) before FULLY annexed/absorbed (conquered) by Vietnam in 1832 AD. Their first kingdom was founded at least since 192 AD. But Chams (ethnic who founded it) have been there for thousands of years (at least since 4,000 BP (but scholars said Proto-Austronesian originated from Southern China too) & have already been there in 1,000 BC during Sa Huynh Culture) before the Vietnamese people came down.

And the all the cultural system and political system is all Chinese (we have archaeology about the emperor's tomb and the palace garden). But still consider it as Vietnamese history?Just a little bit curious from a Cantonese point of view.

What's the situation with the southernmost part of Vietnam? It wasn't till the end of the 18th century when it was fully under Vietnamese hands. So what's the situation with that region? Was it Vietnamese all this time just under wrong hands or were those lands inhabited by other nations?

After that, Khmer empire invaded and annexed Funan ( under Cambodia's view, they call it the civil war).
half of this territory is the huge swamp, few civillian live at there.
from 18th, Vietnamese use diplomat and army to take this territory. However, It still not as rich as you see in the present-day. We have to wait until French Indochina period. They French use modern technology and help to covert this huge swamp to the huge farming plain.

Yuan isn't comparable with Nan Yue, Yuan consist of mostly Han Chinese, while Vietnamese(Vietnamese identity probably doesn't exist yet) isn't the majority in Nan Yue.
Only a quarter of the Nan Yue's territory lies in Vietnam today and the capital is in China side, this is different from Yuan, where the emperor proclaimed himself the emperor of 中国 and moved the capital beyond the great wall to what is BeiJing today.
Furthermore, the name Nan Yue(南越) isn't synonymous with Vietnam (越南). Nan Yue means the Southern Yue Kingdom, while Vietnam means the kingdom south of Yue.

The question is Many Vietnamese people think they were independent much early than 960A. The fact is even though there are some Vietnamese regimes succeed got independent from China, they were reconquered by the Chinese government.
Đinh dynasty was the first Vietnamese regime who has never been conquered by China.

You made a bad mistake, after WW2 Vietnam was not ruled by France again, that's what the entire anti-French resistance war was about, haven't you heard of this? This was an entire war, where after the Japanese left (no choice), the French tried to send forces back to Vietnam to hopefully try to recapture it as a colony before it became too independent, however upon this attempt, the Vietnamese simply shot back at them and a war ensued, a war that the French lost, this was Vietnam's war for independence. The French never physically ruled Vietnam after they were kicked out by the Japanese, the French claimed it was still theirs after WW2, however they didn't actually hold control of it and it thus wasn't theirs in reality, they failed when they tried to recolonise it. Learn your history please, the French were never able to colonise Vietnam after WW2, so your map is wrong in colouring in Vietnam as French after WW2.

    • @ziongite
      @ziongite 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It was independent the entire time after WW2, you are correct, that's why it was fighting foreigners entering it's land and never gave up. However the way this guy made his video, he is only counting it as independent when European powers no longer claim they own it and acknowledge it as independent, which means when they ultimately gave up their attempts to recapture it. I agree with you over the video maker, what matters is the reality on the ground, not what some country claims it owns, despite not actually physically owning it. Vietnam wasn't under French control at any point after 1945, the French tried, but failed.

Very serious error. 南越(nanyue) is not Vietnam。 China referred to barbarians in the four directions as东夷(east Yi), 南越(south Yue)北狄(North Di) and 西戎(west Rong)
南越(nanyue)is an indigenous people of southern China.
In 1802, Nguyen Phuc Anh established a new dynasty, and he asked the suzerainty of China to allow him to use "南越(nanyue)" as the name of the country, yes, a name with the ancient southern tribes of ancient China, which was a conspiracy, and if a name was used, when many years passed, the Vietnamese would tell people that the 南越(nanyue) of southern China is part of Vietnam。
The Chinese Jiaqing Emperor saw through his plot, refused his request, and named his king 越南(yuenan.English word: Vietnam), meaning the place south of nanyue.
I admired the emperor, who prevented a conspiracy. Although some Vietnamese are still experimenting with this conspiracy。
