It probably didn't make a difference, but rules are rules. And Merc probably knew. Very unfortunate for Russel, as he did nothing wrong, but paid the price.
It was a deliberate setup because GR had too many points. He was ahead of LH in points, which was embarrassing for LH. We already know that Merc will do anything to push the agenda, so LH had to be better than GR. At any cost. And this was the cost. Last race they messed up his tire strat. and this time car weight. A full room of engineers didn't make a mistake. It was on purpose to make LH get more points than young GR.
@@heyhayhay247 nope. His Ferrari career will be amazing. Everything is prepared for him to grab his 8th cup. The setup is complete. Just watch the grotesque unveiling.
It's a miniscule difference, but over the course of 300km, it does add up. The car has it a tiny bit easier around the corner... wouldn't surprise me if the one-stop was only possible thanks to the car being slightly underweight... But yeah, it is mind blowing how little it takes to effect the outcome of a race. Case in point: Back in the early 30s a German racecar with a white livery was one kg overweight, so the engineers polished the white paint off the car and this reduced the weight enough to achieve a weight below the allowed maximum. It's the origin story of the "Silver Arrows" nickname for German racecars.

McLaren and Ferrari are only 40 and 60 points respectively behind. By COTA I think either of them take the lead
if red bull is red bull sergio perez won’t be sergio perez
Explain last year.
Red Bull doenst deserved it this Year.
And if your “goat” doesn’t secure championship (since it’s only half over) and he hasn’t won every race, kind of premature to say this but I’m sure you’ll blame the car if he doesn’t and if he does you won’t praise the car😆😆😆
This was one of the races where you had absolutely no idea who's gonna win it. And it's even better that the least person that i thought would win it actually did. Amazing call george
Russell did say in the media pen after quali that it could be a race of tire preservation - what an amazing job
The best drivers on the track are clearly Lewis and Oscar. Both honest, skilled, straight forward and not underhanded to their team mates. I would love to see these two fight it out for a title. Oscar however, seems to have the abilities of being the driver with the least resistance to NOT complain. He just gets on with it and is refreshing. I always worried how will I watch F1 without Lewis, well Oscar is very much watchable and likeable.
We will see how oscsr is when asked to do what lando did ,, with Webber as his manager I suspect he won’t do it ,, and rightfully so he’s there to win give up a win you never winning a world championship
F1 is so back.

0,6s behind his teammate and calling that "peforming suprebly well" tells everything about the guy.
He qualified well because his car had more downforce (setup) for the rain, which made him lose straight line speed in the dry
Russell called it in his quali interview that tyre management might come handy, he was bang on it!!
should have kept his petrol management as his priority

Great driving by George with one stop...Very sad to hear your disqualification....Toto needs to think about this so that this does not happen in the future
At least Russell's DQ wasn't as dumb as the "using all the fuel we already limit you to carry" excuse for Vettel's DQ a few years ago
@@cinegraphicswell, Hamilton is gone soon. His Ferrari career will likely be brief and frustrating

Its crazy the difference being 1.5kg lighter helps a car and its tyres in F1! 🤯
Even 0.1 second a lap makes a lot of difference so 1.5 kg matters.
Yeah crazy how little weight helps the car
It is an important aspect that teams consider.
