Repairing heads is a crappy job.. The flip side of this is on my first long trip of 3 months on my Columbia 29 along the coast of Alaska I took way too much stuff. On the next trip I cut it in half, the boat handled and sailed better and I had less stuff to deal with. Thanks for the video. Sail On! : )
I always remember another piece of advice when it comes to any safety device / spare. One is none, two is one, three is two. Always have two, and best to have three if it’s an essential component.
Thanks for the tips . On the boat good ideas always welcome . Before sailing west , I am Going to buy some of the stuff tomorrow . Always happy with your video style . Thanks and happy sailing in 2022.
Just love you guys, I left snowy Western Canada (30 below up there as I type this) almost 3 months ago and moved to Baja Sur, La Paz. My background was the Oil industry, (so yes I can fix pretty much anything) and then a business owner, not oil related until 2018. Especially love this episode about spare parts. Keep the video's coming

A crappy situation in Paradise over a $1.29 washer. How wonderful. Such a joyous occasion everyone should enjoy during this festive season. Maybe not... but Mr. Murphy says Hello again and there you are. Good to see both of you enjoying the warmth of southern waters again. Hmmm 3 heads, 1 washer per head, plus the back up, and.. a spare too- carry the six, add the 4... 25 should do. U can barter them later on for other precious items of "need" within the community. Limes, rum, avocados maybe the odd Taco dinner when times get hard. Just when you think... you have all the bases covered, that plan goes to sh*t. S.O.L. is real. Enjoyed your journey this season. Just an FYI - Lithium batteries degrade over time and have a shelf life, so if you buy that spare and put it on the shelf, replace it after a few years even if you didn't use it, because if you don't when you need it the spare might not work either.
Turtle Key looks so much different today then when we cruised the Bahamas on our families yacht in the late ‘60s early ‘70. I always loved Turtle Key because their was an old woman that baked fresh bread every afternoon and was a real treat.
The sailing West Australians Troy and Pascale on Free Range Sailing make the point that you can use your solar array without the MPPT but you have to monitor it. The Solar panels can provide an output of up to 30-something volts but will provide an output that's just above your batter's voltage. However, when the battery is full, say 13.7v, the solar charger will continue to provide charge, which your battery cannot handle, so you need to monitor/test the voltage if you are working without an MPPT. I will see if I can find the video.
For Yanmar engines I would add the small pre-starter solenoid to your spares list. Can be by passed with a dead short to start engine if you have to. We have had two go on our cat. Once in the Panama Canal and once while anchored waiting for a bridge opening.
Making dinner aboard last night and both can openers broke! Managed to get one to work with vise grips. It is hard to have every spare we might need because we want to keep the boat light. Just picked up 2 spare joker valves and 2 spare fanbelts.

B&E's on boats is not as common as on land (you do effectively have a moat around your castle 🤣) but it does happen, most sailors will look out for other boats in the anchorage so it's more boats on moorings that have an issue, my boat was on the same mooring for 7 years and was broken into once, but someone else saw him breaking into another boat, video'd him till he returned to his boat, so the police caught him red handed with stuff that was reported stolen, unfortunately not mine but I only lost a few life jackets and an old chart and some damage to the boat, he didn't find where I hid the electronics.

Nice one guys, after 6000nm this year is sailing the East coast of Africa I agree with your list of spares but high on mine is a new raw water pump for the yanmar engines. One engine down can be a nightmare in your travels. The big issue is how easy is it to buy a replacement ? We had a water pump die in Kenya. A replacement Jabsco was $600 where you can buy this for $150 at most places. No water pump impellers or any other yanmar or Volvo parts available in Kenya or Tanzania. So when we travel we carry a lot. Anything that can stop your trip needs to be carried.
