  • This is South Carolina’s Highway Patrol Trooper James Cameron, an award-winning trooper for his DUI arrests in 2015 and 2019, but in about 25 minutes you’ll either be questioning his innocence or guilt. What started as a simple arrest in 2021 led to his reckoning as nearly $3,000 went missing from the evidence. In this video, we’re taking you through the case of State Trooper James Welch and together we can decide whether he was in the right or not.

    When any police agency can seize cash whether it is legitimate or not, how in the world do they not have money counting machines?

    • @mattb6646
      @mattb6646 ปีที่แล้ว +89

      You'd think they would, im sure some police departments do have them but they should always be done in special areas with large amounts of money like this. Also why body cameras are important, and should always be filming

    • @FoundaPeanut
      @FoundaPeanut ปีที่แล้ว

      The ones that don’t have money counting machines usually would just pocket the money but body cameras and dashboard cameras are changing that.
      The days of criminals with badges are coming to an end.
      Technology is making sure of that.

      A civil forfeiture has to be filed in circuit court. Unfortunately, the statue requires that the money go to the law enforcement agency. It was meant to be applied to the big dealers who had millions & were able to keep their fortunes even after conviction. But agencies started applying it to too many cases & it creates messes in many states. No doubt if the money went to the local schools there would be less incentive to stretch the law

    I'm from South Carolina. I moved from there a few years back. The first thing I noticed in my new home was a freedom that I felt when being on the roads. In SC, you would be stopped if you were the only car on the road at night. They would make up their excuse for stopping you, once it was, "You bumped into the white line twice" even though the officer initiated his blue lights over a quarter mile behind me. Just countless times being stopped under false pretenses. After almost 2 decades of living like that, I still have a fear of driving past 9pm even though I don't drink, I don't use drugs and im a completely law abiding citizen. I hate when people drive under the influence and I want them caught before they can hurt another innocent driver. But in South Carolina, at least the area I was from, it is not about getting the drunks off the road to protect the innocent. It's a huge part of the economy. Hearing that there is an award for making the most DUI arrests is actually a bit unsettling. They have made a competition out of the number of people they can find an excuse to arrest. Instead of looking at it critically and being realistic about only arresting people who need to be arrested. They are screwing with people's lives and the one who does the most gets recognized and promoted.
    I wonder how many of those DUI arrests led to convictions... But for the person who was arrested, it doesn't really matter. They lost $10k and all kinds of time and freedom at the moment of arrest. A year later, being proven not guilty doesn't make much of a difference. They don't get anything back and the officer faces no consequences and still gets credit for the arrest. It is a screwed up system that resembles piracy to me. That's just the SC Highway Patrol. Don't get me started on the local sheriff's departments. Where I live now, it's like night and day. I love my local law enforcement, I am a huge supporter and I am very grateful for the work they do here. I go out, specifically, to vote for our sheriff

      Cottageville had police to pull you over for going 1 mile over the speed limit. It’s one Main Street, speed goes from 55 to 25 within 500 feet. You can’t see the sign due trees covering it. Also business line the road with business signs. Picture an election rally location with hundreds of signs off the side of the road. The cops sit parked behind trees where you can’t see them. 8/10 people gets pulled over.
      One time I drove through and I swear, the cop was parked in the middle of the road waving 8 cars to pull over. Cars were doing maybe 2-5 mph (that slow), because the cops entered the road to pull over 8 cars. Some for no reason, it’s almost like he picked a color and said “I’ll let all the black cars through and everyone else pulls over.” I was 11th in line and could swear he about to pull me over for having a dark grey truck. He let me go but three behind me had to pull off the road.
      The police department is now disbanded by the city council due to budget. I guarantee they pulled people over for tickets to justify why the town needed a police department. Cottageville has roughly a max of 100 citizens. There is only through traffic to get to Walterboro from Charleston. That’s it. It’s one road. Actually two roads but no one takes the road through the swap.

I refuse to believe there’s not a single money counting machine used previously in the police station, or one they could easily get. The whoops! “Forgetting” there was a bag of money left in the officers vehicle 💼 The failed polygraph test, I mean come on!
    So shady… and disgusting.
    Everyone involved should have gone to jail for grand theft.
    If the police precinct can’t do basic arithmetic then they should have called someone who CAN count.

    Imagine how much money this police officer has stolen from people he's pulled over and arrested over the years, and sadly after even all of this he's allowed to continue his job so you can bet he's still stealing. Just look at the people arrested for shoplifting, they go back and do it over and over and over again and never stop even after getting caught and facing trouble over it. The reason they do it is because it gives them a thrill almost like taking drugs does.
