Filing false charges, assaulting a civilian, and trying to ruin a man's life should land that officer in jail. Cops are out of control and need to be held accountable.
Once a cop has been proven to lie on a police report, EVERY police report he has written is now in question! If people were sent to jail because of that report, that needs to be investigated!
Just like if your parent either needlessly lies to you or wrongfully punishes you, you can never trust him/her again, and he/she should not be allowed to punish you anymore. Both things can happen. Allowing them to 'resign' just saves the City the effort of having to do an investigation to terminate them. They can still be prosecuted, and in states where it is allowed they can still lose access to any taxpayer funded retirements based on the outcome of that prosecution.
not only that he was allowed to resign, which allows him to keep his pension, and can get a job in any other station who will take him. only the resignation follows him, not the complaints surrounding his tyrannical behavior

Yes with someone on the outside helping since they don't hear evidence from falsely accused inmates. They have no voice, it's legal slavery. That's why he was so happy when someone believed him to advocate for him. Even with proof it's hard to overturn an arrest/conviction.
He never should have had to do his own investigation to find evidence that he was being truthful and the officer was lying. This is one reason I'm all for cop cams being worn by every officer unless they are undercover and might be endangered by wearing a wire or pen cam.
The worst part of this entire story is the force did nothing to hold him accountable. In fact by excusing his behavior time and time again they are encouraging it.

I had an incident in Stamford Ct. wherein when I was with the arresting officers they were being very kind and telling me thank you for being so calm and obedient and that it would be good for me in my court appearance. However, when I met with my attorney before my appearance he had a copy of the police report and they had completely made up a whole different scenario painting me in a bad light. They were not present and my Lawyer told me not to mention it to the judge as it would not go over well. He told me that police there in Stamford always embellish their reports. Thankfully Stamford is a small town and my lawyer ultimately had been in practice there for over 20 years and he got my case dismissed rather easily. This type of police abuse is much more prevalent than beatings and killings. In most cases it brings the local Courthouse a ton of revenue from falsified police records making the victims pay more serious fines and higher court costs. Besides maybe a stiffer sentence for the victims as well. The corruption runs deep, way over our heads. This dude is lucky there are so many cameras around these days as he was almost a victim.

@@joeblow1115 I really hate that your lawyer told you to be silent about a lie but this just shows how the entire system is corrupt! We have to expose these officers! Wanted to share a similar experience I had: I started driving when I was 16 in 1998. I got my first ticket for speeding although I knew I was NOT because I was afraid to drive at first. That cop had followed me for blocks and I saw him so only a fool would’ve been speeding. He walked up to my car didn’t even ask for my license or anything but he really asked me for my number so he could call me. I immediately responded and told him I was only 16 and he basically said so what. He tried to convince me for about 5 minutes. I keep telling him no, and I guess after a few minutes he got the picture but the last time I declined is when he decided to write me a ticket. None the less, my mom wanted to teach me about dealing with things in the court of law and she told me to request a court date. My court date came and I was last on the docket so I thought cool, I’ll sit here and listen to the other cases. There was this one particular guy that had been charged with “disorderly conduct” and some other mess that was a total waste of time. He had several witnesses with him (none of them were his family btw) and they all said the same exact thing that the cop had completely fabricated the entire story. The cop took and the stand and answered he couldn’t recall to nearly every question. After all the testimony the judge ruled in favor of the officer and made a statement that 1) solidified the fact that the entire system is corrupt and 2) I’ll never forget...he said “Cops don’t lie” 😳 I just left the court room and paid the ticket because I knew I had no fighting chance
The cop should be charged with assault, official kidnapping by deception, stalking, official misconduct, and defrauding the public because they pay him to enforce the laws, not break them.
Exactly, you have to question every other case he has brought against anyone. I think it's interesting that the defendant went around and tracked down this footage proving he was innocent. The police didn't find it - if they had, I bet it would have been hidden. I have always been very respectful of police, and they have always treated me kindly, but I've seen too many of these cases on youtube to have any trust in police - they scare me! And I'm a white guy! I can't imagine how I would feel being black!

Being falsely accused of assaulting an officer is not “heavy handed police work”. It’s an extremely serious charge with possible dramatic consequences for a person’s life. Call these police thugs out for what they are.
A friend of mine a few years ago "was charged" with assaulting an officer which was later dropped due to video showing he never touched the officer. Despite being dropped, he tried entering Canada for a Formula 1 event and guess what. He was denied entry because of that false charge. Charges like this are serious and do have consequences even if falsified.
Even if fired they usually fight it then resign so nothing is on their record then get a job at another precinct . Seen it too many times and sadly the system won’t prosecute them because it makes them look like the tyrants they usually are .
Why do these people not have a locally based independent office of conduct and investigation into all law enforcement agencies. Reduce and remove the possibility of police/public officials investigating/policing themselves - utterly ridiculous in 2021 that your community leaders are still referring to the odd 'bad apple' - Get a grip and just do it!!!
This is why a nation wide registry should identify officers that have been fired or have serious discipline histories before being hired by another community.
Let's hope it passes in the Senate. -- we should do more than hope. We need to reach out to our Senators. I don't understand why a national database is even political at this point. You'd think every one would want to be afforded this protection. Any time it's your word against an officer's, you can bet you won't be believed. There could be 10 eyewitnesses that have no relationship to a defendant all saying the same version of events, and the officer will be believed every single time. Two of my tenants were motorcycle officers and they both attested that officers lie on reports and in the witness box on a regular basis.
the "resigning" officer keeps a clean record, he will be rehired by the nex PD. And if he is not bearable for a PD, he will get a job as prison ward (see the out of control officer that arrested the nurse on duty in Salt Lake City. We went the next day and took pictures of the space, and the sign was buried in a bush, and no blue lines were visible. There was a car parked there with no handicap plate or placard. Im fed up of these cases being resolved as ''the officer resigned, no other action taken'' But if a member of the public does something wrong, losing their job is the least of their concern. The police lied, made up a story that could have seen the man being sent to jail. In my book thats very serious and should be punished with a jail term. What happens when he gets stressed at home? It's horrible to think about what he does behind closed doors. Police unions are a huge part of the issue. They protect "bad apples" by requiring tedious administrative hoops be jumped through before a cop can be punished or fired. It doesn't take an Einstein of a cop to read the protections in place and come to the accurate conclusion that they are free to do almost anything they like and the weight of belief is on their side. It's worse than that. He wrote in an official record that his own act of violence was caused by an inability to perceive reality. The Baker Act clearly requires that he be incarcerated in a mental institution until the Doctors determine that he is no longer a threat to himself or others. Personally, I believe he is just lying to try to cover himself, but since he made an official statement that his perceptions can be so severely altered by stress that he cannot differentiate between a man standing still for 30 seconds or charging at him with clenched fists it means that, if true, no one would be safe from him. Clever idea.

Yes!

Filing false charges, assaulting a civilian, and trying to ruin a man's life should land that officer in jail. Cops are out of control and need to be held accountable.
BWAHAHAHAHA. Cops are above the law
There isn't accountability when they investigate themselves.
I myself had this happen to me, and it has scarred me for life --- I always tried my level best to be good, and always did an exceptional job, but I still got no relief.

Both things can happen. Allowing them to 'resign' just saves the City the effort of having to do an investigation to terminate them. They can still be prosecuted, and in states where it is allowed they can still lose access to any taxpayer funded retirements based on the outcome of that prosecution.
If that cop was a civilian, he'd be in jail. Why isn't he in jail???
Exactly. They are treated above the law. Everytime.
I feel like they hire (majority) of specific people and everyone knows what's up so they cover each others asses lol I have uncles in the police
not only that he was allowed to resign, which allows him to keep his pension, and can get a job in any other station who will take him. only the resignation follows him, not the complaints surrounding his tyrannical behavior
because hes a crooked cop & his other cop buddies wont put him in jail ,kinda like politicians think they are above the law .& most o the time get away with whatever so for the most part they are above the law in that sense . cause they always get away scott free .
Cops ARE civilians. They just act like they're not, and for some reason we treat them accordingly. We need to strip away their fake military ranks, and all the other crap that makes them feel, and apparently rightly so, that they're above the law. A police 'Sergeant' is just a supervisor...a fakeass 'Lieutenant' is just a middle manager.

Wanted to share a similar experience I had:
I started driving when I was 16 in 1998.
If the DA doesn’t pursue felony charges against those cops for falsifying reports, it’s time to get rid of that DA.

Personally, I believe he is just lying to try to cover himself, but since he made an official statement that his perceptions can be so severely altered by stress that he cannot differentiate between a man standing still for 30 seconds or charging at him with clenched fists it means that, if true, no one would be safe from him.
