I give this gentleman so much credit. I took care of my husband for many years before he died at home. It was very hard for me and I am a critical care nurse. I am almost 55 years old and I am wanting to do this when I retire. Hopefully at 62. People usually judge others when they have never experienced a spouse who needs 24/7 care. If she has Alzheimer’s or dementia she may not even know who he is. I give him so much credit for moving on with life. He took care of her with 2/3’s of the House proceeds, not 50%. That’s a great husband! Best of luck to you. I am hoping to join this group one day as well. I am excited on my decision. Best wishes.

Thank you so much to your guest, Sam , for sharing. I'm sorry to hear about his wife's health. I would never ever consider other peoples opinions of how I want to live and I am a woman. I live how I want to live. You can spend your whole life living for everybody else and before you know it you're dead.

Hello Cheryl. I appreciated your comment very much. Yes indeed as life is short and living free is the only way for me. I am also a full timer named Sam and wouldn't have it any other way. Id rather live free and happy than for someone else and be miserable. I actually visit so many VA s that my RV is often at a VA. In the military we said live free or die. The life is amazing meeting so many fine and nice folks across this nation.

Didn't realize we had so many here who are so quick to question or judge people like Sam so critically regarding their and/or their partners decisions. I'd like to give Sam the benefit of the doubt and think maybe his wife insisted he do what he's doing.
As I see things currently, if I were the one in a care facility, I'd prefer my better half move on and get the most out of what's left of their life. Contemplating my being like a boat anchor on my better half's happiness would cause me great psychological pain.
Besides, given all the money he's likely to save living the boondocking lifestyle, I doubt he'd have much trouble getting back to his wife's care facility within a day or so if needed. For all we know, he may only be a couple of hours drive from the care facility where he's been living. Unfortunately, if people continue to judge and be critical of people like Sam without knowing all the facts (and even with all the facts), there's a good chance we won't be seeing too many people willing to be interviewed by Bob Wells on video that so many of us like to watch. Carry on Sam, you deserve to live your life as you see fit and not be shamed or guilt driven to live up to the expectations of others. Good Luck!

Its fun to see that Sam is still out there. He was interviewed by New Jersey Outdoor Adventures in 2022. He was still in the same rig, but planning to scale back to a Class B. He lost some weight, but looked very healthy and happy.

Thank you so much for taking time to share your adventures with me. Sorry your wife isn't able to be there with you but am very glad you decided to follow your dreams and give this way of life a try. I am also sorry for the judgemental attitudes of some of the other commenters. We started out with a class C then went to a Class B and now have the class A. Haven't used it in several years. I don't have a clue what the very first one was, it was so old I think Noah had used it to live close to where he was building his Ark. Hubby has no interest in traveling. I took it out alone several times and really enjoyed it but there comes an age when a married person needs to stay a little closer to home. I would love to take off in it and go do some visiting. We are in Missouri so half-way across the country and we could be anywhere. Enjoy.

Bob, this is a great video again. I really like Sam's rig. It is very homey looking and appears to be very solidly made. I am sorry that his wife can't rv with him. When he spoke of her, it looked like it saddened him. He spoke of how she helped get them financially stable when younger and that is why he is able to do this now. Thanks for sharing Joyce

We have a 2002 Born Free 24RB Class C which is 25 feet. Bought it less than a year ago and have made some short runs around Florida which is where we live. Still have our house as we're not interested in going full time. We bought it after spending countless days searching for a quality used MH, one that will last, and one that was in excellent shape. We don't tow any vehicle as we find it's not necessary as the Born Free is like a van that can be driven anywhere easily enough. For the rest of the summer my wife and I, and Max our Poodle, will be venturing out to other southern states usually on day trips or a few days. We are not boon dockers so will be staying in RV parks or even might try public parks as I have lifetime free entrance to all national and state parks due to my VA Disibility status. Retired about 15 years ago and it took me that long to figure it all out.

I am heading out part time in a year to take my son's for some adventures. Then full time in two years. My husband will not be joining me; medical issues and being a home base for our son in college. My daughter will come with me while she finishes high school. Then I will be solo. I'm 50 now, been raising kids as a domestic homeschooler. I am ready to take flight.. I may put my wing away for grandkids someday. Thumbs Up for you Sam.

IT support.... I've been in IT for almost 40 years and can't imagine being bored in retirement! I'm bored with IT and have even done a lot of different work in the field just to remain semi-sane. If people knew how crappy IT is run in most large corporations, they'd be shocked! At least that's been my experience with the 3 large fortune 100-500 corporations.

      @JonTanOsb 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

On the other hand, IT professionals get flown across the country with a free hotel stay just to check out a computer that doesn't work ... and plug in the extension cord that it was plugged into. Honestly, always start troubleshooting with the power source. And Reboot! :o

I'm 7 years from retirement and going out on the road, but my rent keeps going up every year and I need an apartment replacement now. After watching a lot of these videos and researching all the rv types my plan for now is to buy a used 5th wheel to replace my apartment. In 7 years I'll decide whether I want to keep it and get a tow vehicle or sell it and get a used class c or van conversion. I found a very nice mobile home park that has rv spaces and reasonable monthly rent. How does that sound for a plan?

  • @kathybitzan7473

Great interview, I know I follow Carolyn's RV life and looking forward to my house selling and getting on the road. She has really been a great influence in my choice's. I only had one not in favor of me doing this and that was my youngest daughter. My son told me to go for it if that is what I wanted. So I do and I will. I started looking at RV's a year ago and was very disappointed in their craftsmanship. I think I looked at about 25 before I found a fifth wheel I could live with but I don't want to get out if I have to leave a place in a hurry, so have backed up thinking a Class C would be perfect. So thanks for the input on the Lazy Days and Born Free coaches. My folks had a big GMC in the 70's so I knew I didn't want a Class A, it would be way to big for just me. I currently looked at some older Born Free and wow they are really in good shape even in the 1998 looks almost brand new. I was surprised for sure. So again thanks for the great reviews and sharing your life with us.

Sam the traveling man, on the road is his plan. He has a styling RV for sure, if he traded the Subaru for a Harley he'd be like Steve.....McQueen, The King of Kool. Sorry about the wife, but with the Harley you'd have a new life, one with hot chick's and none of that Wal Mart BS ?
Here's to the good life Sam, be free and don't forget my friend..."If thé Thunder don't get the lighting will " See you down the road bro !

...These people whom Bob interview sometimes say they are ''retired.''' They can't POSSIBLY be referring to the standard age-sixty-five retirement, as most of them do not look beyond their forties, and this guy is no exception. They must retire early upon deciding to live off grid, I presume.

Love these interview type episodes! I agree that some RVs are made so cheaply. That is one of the reasons we opted to build our own through a used school bus and document the process. We also looked at used RVs. Are you currently in the Southwest? Any plans for heading to FL?

I sure do enjoy watching your videos, sir! Would sure be a ton of excitement if you ever stumble across someone with a Super-C rig to interview. Meanwhile, keep the great vids coming and I'll certainly continue watching each-and-every one of them with a ton of appreciation for ya. Cheers!

Sam Your a smart man. That’s the right way to go. Paying rent sucks, paying rents leads people to be poor and broke and have nothing to look forward to.

Is there a video out there that explains these colored tanks, and how to find places to empty/fill them? Also what is the cost, if any?
