    Thanks for the recommendation! We need more and more creators pointing out OGLs from other systems. Make WotC realize what the TRUE community looks like and that 5E will miss out on being supported by a wealth of talent and creativity. This video has made me feel much better about the situation and, who knows, Cypher might have more to offer me as a creator than 5E ever did.

    Amazing brother, my editor is about to release a video recommending Cypher System as well! 😄
    * Glad to hear someone else talking about the ‘solution’ and moving forward!
    Cypher is excellent for getting out the way, and adjusting.
    Monte Cooks Invisible Sun is an example of how far you can tweak Cypher.
    * Once you get the system of IS, you can clearly see the Cypher underpinnings.
    I’m currently running a campaign for my group in the Eberron campaign setting,
    using the Invisible Sun rules, because my group loves how magic is handled.
    (No mean feat for a new person, as Invisible Sun came in kit that was similar in size to gloom haven.
    We’ll definitely more content and heavier! lol!)
    Take care my friend… hopefully the likes of Matt Coville and Mercer use the Cypher System.
    I get there are other systems, but we have to remember…
    …our player base already knows 5e and needs to not be hindered by the daunting idea of learning a new system.
    (One reason I’m a strong advocate for Cypher - you can practically get off the ground same day!) 😊

    Another positive of Cypher is that monte cooke has expressly gone on the record he will rewrite his OGL to codify the intent of the open system so you'd never be in this position with his OGL. That's a company showing respect.

      Monte Cook, "I was there was the original OGL was created. I know first hand how hard those drafting it tried to sincerely make it so that it would last forever and would never screw over anyone that used it. So when we decided to create a Cypher System open license with the same goals, of course we used the OGL as a model. And now after two days of potential WotC shenanigans, people are looking at our open license as though it's dodgy. Sigh."

    I think the issue is going to be finding popular consensus on a system or a few systems. The nice thing for creators in developing content for D&D is that they know there's a big built-in audience for their work. Putting their energy into a system that ultimately doesn't reach a lot of people probably isn't going to be as satisfying (or pay the bills). Personally, I think we're really waiting and looking at people like Matt Mercer and Brennan Lee Mulligan to propose a wagon that a large portion of the community can jump on. You don't even necessarily have to particularly like or watch those shows - that's not really the point, but who else is going to set a unifying direction for the largest group of fans / enthusiasts / consumers?

    • @epicbrowndragon
      @epicbrowndragon ปีที่แล้ว

      If creators think like players…
      …the solution becomes a bit clear.
      They all learned 5e, it’s daunting to learn a new system that some may like or not.
      Cypher in for the win as it gets out the way of play, and can easily be customized.
      Invisible Sun is proof of that. 😊
      Have fun gaming!

    I've played Cypher and I absolutely love it. It's not "rules light," exactly, but the rules are so intuitive that the crunch is straightforward. It does have a different feel from D&D. You can do just about anything with it. I didn't know they had an OGL - that is fantastic news!
    I think folks should also consider Forged in the Dark Games (modified from the "Blades in the Dark" engine), and Powered by the Apocalypse games (inspired by the "Apocalypse World" engine). Drama System games are also worth looking at. But I suspect that Cypher would probably be the easiest port for D&D stuff...

    Kevin Crawford talks about using the mechanical chassis of Moldvay Cook being the Lingua Franca or lowest common denominator that people (players) just get. I actually agree that Monte Cooks Games are awesome but I think the community ought to fight for the right to use that kind of game mechanic. Wizards doesn't own it. You can't copyright a game mechanic. We should just ditch any semblance of their IP and move forward together as a community. And circle the wagons to support each other. We should do what Kevin Crawford has been doing. No OGL just creative Commons RPG content.

    They (WotC) does not control the D20 system. A system, particularly the dice used, fall under “game mechanics” which can not be copyrighted.

    • @rpgsandmore7550
      @rpgsandmore7550  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Individual game mechanics cannot be copyrighted. However the whole package of how they work together can still be contested. If a creator isn’t willing or able to defend their work in court it might be best to avoid the D20 SRD for a while until the courts figure this current situation out.

      @@rpgsandmore7550 and many are. Also, quite a few YT channels (large 100k+ ones) have declared a reduction to total end to D&D coverage. No more free, glowing advertisement for WotC. No more 3rd party content for D&D 5E, which leaves WotC with nothing but their low quality in-house staff writers. No reason for anyone to buy 5E content any longer, WotC has made it obsolete.

    I agree that it is about the story so why bother having any system and just make system agnostic content with a fate like outline of difficulty like trivial, easy, hard, very hard since these plain terms that is easily convertible to any system. As for monsters that is what bestiaries/monster manuals etc are for and by their nature are system locked anyway. Having statblocks in the adventure itself is mostly useless anyway since a party can be of varying sizes and levels. I usually end up plugging in different monsters or npcs anway.

    You cat was personally trying to warn you that you are wrong. Cypher is to DND as Mastodon is to Twitter. Enjoy making your content for a fraction of the audience and for virtually no engagement. Just as the Mastodon followers are now back on Twitter, you will be back on DND. Monte Cook is literally the loser in his Virtual Battle with DND - Mike Mearls sailed past everything Monte Cook did. Plenty of game on Cypher and no one (at the macro level) plays them. This is terrible (Mastodon mistake repeated) advice.
