Spent a few days with friends in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was a great time, but I cut it a bit short due to bad storms rolling through. My suspicions were correct and it ended up being a sleety rainy mess the following morning. Hope you enjoy the video!

Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail Overland Jeep Trip
Love the styling.
This one does not come even close to Goldwing. Two cylinder... are you serious? If I want all these vibrations then I'll would rather go with a HD. Plus this bike has a major (over)heating problem, air cooled engine on a such a heavy bike? Geeeeeee
I know some time has passed by, and maybe you don't have the same bike anymore. I do have a few questions though. How does the low speed handling compare between the Road King and the Super Tenere? I imagine that's one area that might favor the Road King, since it probably has a lower center of gravity? Also, do you have the ability to move your feet around on a long ride? And finally, how much more do you feel buffeted by the wind on the ST? Thanks.
The tenere was a heavy bike based on adv standards, but I thought it handled well. The apes on my RK didn't help the slow speed handling... Haha. You could always add a highway peg setup to the crash bars if you needed more wiggle room on longer rides. I tend to squirm no matter what I'm riding 😆
Telling a car not to pull out in front of you when You! are speeding, what a Weed you be!!!
Usually construction forces you onto the grid when crossing the bridge. You lucked out.
Doors won't break plastic , plastic is the way everything is going now days!
Im thinking of trading in my kawasaki voyager 1700 in for super tenere. But unsure if comfort wind rain protection will be as good?
I only did a couple longer trips on my tenere, but I didn't find wind protection to be an issue. It probably won't be as good as the voyager, but keep in mind they're completely different rides. I wouldn't hesitate to take a Super Tenere cross-country. Just get a larger windscreen and call it good. Also, the wind deflectors made a huge difference, so I'd definitely recommend those
@@VossAdventures im just so worried i may regret it. I like my voyager. I like the power since i upgraded ecu flash and pipes air intake. I ride some very long trips 500 to 600km day for like 10 days straight. And stop every 200 km to stretch and fill up Ive also always thought if like tgis style of bike for the little bit of motocamping i do. Just looking for a change
Love that area
Personally, I have to say that I think it's an absolute shame that Yamaha abandoned the Royal Star in favor of the Star Venture. If the marketing/styling department figured people wanted a classic air cooled V-twin, they should have given them one. The Star Venture is not classic in any sense and the abysmal sales figures bear that out. The Royal Star was as close as I've seen to a perfect combination of classic styling with liquid cooled peace of mind. If they wanted to go with a V-twin all they had to do was take either the Road Star or V-star and put a classic batwing touring package on it. The Star Venture is a styling nightmare regardless of how great it rides. I'm sorry, but... it's just... ugly. Bring back the Royal Star Venture and a legion of riders will upgrade. As for your review... top notch! An honest rider with honest opinions. It was refreshing. Well done!
I rode a second gen Royal Star Venture for ten years and own this bike now. They are vastly different bikes. Both are great bikes. This bike is a vast improvement over the previous generation. No regrets. Don’t know if I would have bought it for $30k out the door new but I got it for just under $20k used out the door with 1,500 miles on the odometer. It’s the best touring bike I’ve owned in the last 45 years. Too bad it didn’t sell.
@@gabbyhayes1568I totally agree with you here. Best touring bike I've ever owned and I get comments on the looks all the time. To each his own, some just dont like anything that isnt a status quo Harley. Factory stereo is loud and clear, bike has features you just cant get from HD. And for 22k its 20k less than an American made oil burner.
@@arthurdavis1065 Yeah beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love the look of the Star Transcontinental Venture. The Royal Star Venture was a great looking bike too, but it’s a relic compared to the new Ventures’ technology, handling, and ride quality. I think I’ll hang on to it lol. On a side note, mine is only the second one I’ve ever seen in person, and the only one I’ve ever seen on the road in six years of owning it. Couldn’t say that about my Street Glide. lol
Love the clunk !
I find it funny how everyone is complaining about this bike, 195 lb man and 165 lb woman along with so much crap they "need" for the trip, and the bike is the problem ? that's just saying, the bike is garbage because it can't handle overweight humans that pack way to much junk, and know they should just be traveling in a car. There are people that complain about problems and do nothing, then there are people that solve problems without complaining. I want a cross country touring motorcycle with as many future proof bells and whistles I can get. This obviously comes with costs in weight with this motorcycle, yet is 10 to 20,000 plus dollars cheaper than the competitors. Cost to value and cost of maintenance, this bike has everyone beat and I mean everyone.
In my opinion, If this bike has any problems it's the heat in the seat and fit/finish. Power and storage were definitely the least of the problems if you could even call them "problems".
Ok sorry but I'm going to have to do a video...after being straded and going back with code after first try...I finaly decode "match" figured out...your not very clear I had to What's your video 15 times while trying different things to figure out what you were trying to say about match that's just it's not real cleric I know but I'm glad you did have the video up because eventually I did get it. And I think I'll throw a video up to help others the old brothers unless you replace yours with one better thank you again bye
Felt the same about trading in my Softail. Never looked back. Love HD but the ST does it better. Awesome video.
I made the huge mistake of owning 2 Harleys.....what junk! I now ride a 2017 st and love it leaving Monday for a 3000 trip
I just bought an 04 Road Glide 🤦♂️ The ST is still my favorite out of the 20 or so bikes I've owned tho 🤔
@@VossAdventures I had a 2011 gs and I like mt st better
Where is that camping spot? I have been looking for spots on the water in the up for a while now.
Awesome I just did the same thing with my sportster and couldn't be happier. Now I have to drive the sportster back to Texas from Seattle. Really looking forward to taking the Tenere all over the US and Mexico.
I just bought another harley 🤦♂️😆
I am looking at a super tenere! I like your blogs. Good information and funny comments.
I love that 11
I have owned a 2010 Stratoliner Deluxe for the past 4 years and have loved the bike. I has a great engine with lots of torque and with a couple of mods, it was even better. I had often said, if it had a 6th gear, a trunk and cruise control, I would never get ride of it. That said, I bought a 2018 Venture TC a few weeks ago with some skepticism about the weight and some of the plastic parts. I am over it! This bike is awesome. In the short time I have had it, I have ridden abut 700 mile on the back roads in my area. I can’t stay off this thing. Here are my top five things I like: 1) Infotainment system- easy to use, lots of info 2) 6th gear!! 3) Tons of storage- trunk is amazingly big inside 4) Seat is extremely comfortable( driver and passenger) 5) Adjustable windshield I highly recommend this under estimated bike. You will have a great ride and you will be different than the crowd! That said, I have a Stroliner for sale if anyone is interested.
No settling for ,this bikes better ive had both.
What was your other bike?
The seat heater was on full I could see it
Good decision ! for all the reasons the folks have already mentioned
if you could see in your mind how a transmission operates, a constant mesh sequential transmission is a violent environment. It is a modern miracle that they work at all. That clunk is one gear sliding out of engagement, and another gear sliding into engagement.. Watch some videos and see what’s going on in there. The clunking is a lot less noticeable if you are familiar with exactly how to slightly let off the gas, as you are pulling the clutch in and tapping the shift lever.. I do not care at all for any of the electronics on the motorcycle. I’ve had three ventures, a gold wing, a BMW K 1200 LT. I never listen to the radios on any of those machines, no CB, no intercom, no cd. I wish I could buy the bike cheaper without all of that electronic stuff. All I care about is good fairing, luggage, cruise, heated grips, center stand, great seat, and no heat from the engine. I also want to be able to change the air cleaner in less than six hours(goldwing !!) I don’t wanna machine that I have to marry the dealer! BMW!! After having all those machines. I am back on a royal star venture. The GL 1800 was so buried in plastic, there were no small maintenance chores. They were all big maintenance chores. The BMW had so many design flaws, I’m not even gonna go into it..
Sounds like you have some good experience. All great info to consider 👍
@@VossAdventures I forgot to ask you how was the heat on the left thigh on the V twin Venture? I have read some owner reviews discuss that extreme heat. One owner in Texas said he ended up in the hospital with blisters from the heat on his left thigh from his V-twin Venture. there are motorcycles I did not buy in the past because of the heat coming off of them, FJR, Kawasaki concourse, especially the wonderful but too hot Honda ST 1300. I passed on all of those machines because of the heat issue .. I went with the Moto Guzzi Norge instead.. Norge, and the BMW I had are not Japanese Toyota Corolla perfect. But the Guzzi has a soul. I’ve had four of them since 1979. Nothing major wrong with any of them, just little things like start relays, oil pressure switches (3 ).. Little things, but they are a living breathing thing with a pulse, and I like that.. So how was the heat on the new V twin Venture?
There was a part in the video when I commented on the heat. It felt like it was radiating through the seat mostly, but it was definitely hot
@@VossAdventures my dog wanted to go out right before you got to the point when you said it was on fire down there. I didn’t finish the video I just went to comments.. yes I’ve had some experience and pretty much all forms of motorcycling, play bikes in the woods, Enduro machines, motocross machines, dual sports, commuters, I think the best motorcycle for commuting in the entire universe is a Honda Pacific Coast. I commuted on one for 24 years. Not one single thing ever failed on that machine..I road raced for eight years, winning six championships, two time national champion, amateur of course, I worked as a motorcycle mechanic and three shops when I was younger before I got a real job, and I worked part time evenings and weekends for five or six months a year here in the Northeast as a mechanic/builder/salesman. I’ve had dozens and dozens of motorcycles.. never had a Harley, never had a British bike, I’ve had a Beta, gas gas, fantic trials machines, One BMW, all the rest have been rice burners. And in my years of travel, every time I saw someone with a helmet sticker that said “friends don’t let friends ride rice burners “I always asked that person what does that mean, how did that start? I have yet to have one, not even one person knows what that means. And it has nothing whatsoever to do with motorcycles.. I retired a few years ago, when I retired I actually had eight motorcycles, mostly K DX 200, RM 125, trials bikes, my commuter, my sport bike, my sport touring bike, and my big touring bike. Like I told any guy that asked me why I have so many motorcycles all times. I told him, “anybody can have one”
Keep your eyeballs peeled for sasquatch. Good ol scratch nuts. I'm from newberry I've seen him twice. But have never seen a wolverine
Dude did that Chevy equinox that just pass you have spinners I could swear the rims were spinning backwards.
Adam Sandoval took one of those out about a year ago and said the same exact thing about the gas cover. Cheap plastic feeling. And yes... Gold Wings have reverse which is very handy
the most beautiful air cooled bike ive owned
What an absolute disaster of a pig. 70 horse on a 1/2 ton motorcycle that WILL fry you like an order of french fries. Its REALLY to bad Yamaha didnt stick with what they said they were going to do and unleash a world class touring bike that not even the 160 horse Beemer could compete with, they should have put that 1700cc Vmax motor in there, then this pig would have sold like hotcakes!! Face it Yamaha, you blew it!
I like the voluptuous lines of the Super Tenere, makes it interesting to look at, the very sharp pointing faring on the new adv bikes is getting a bit old. Unfortunately I read somewhere that the new Super Tenere will look more like it’s smaller brother when it comes to market next year, if rumors are true? For me, the only things Yamaha has to do it give it a little more power, make it 20kg lighter and more modern electronics, keep the special looks and shaft drive and you are good to go. Ohh maybe make two versions, one for relax touring, competing with the GS and the like and a really tricked out version with fantastic suspension for more off-road riding, with the famous Yamaha reliability it should be a big seller. Also get the fueling right and make the traction control and abs system more European like. Just my two cents 😎😜
I would absolutely be in the market for an updated Super Tenere 🤞
nice. ditch the hardly for a much better bike.
It ain’t the heated seat, it the heat radiation from the big bore air cooled V-Twin engine at low speed. Same like the new Kawasaki Voyager
Hey! So do you still have the Ténéré? I'm looking at changing up my Tracer 700 next year for something more comfortable for long journeys and maybe a few light trails and this looks ideal. What's your thoughts?
I've sold my tenere, but I'll tell you.... it was easily my favorite motorcycle. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone. I'm actually considering another one. We'll see... 😆
@@VossAdventures Nice one, thanks! I'm going to test the Africa Twin, KTM 890 Adventure and a Super Ténéré. Your review certainly helped a lot!
I was going to go for Goldwing but… :000 touch screeeeeeen
You 100% need 4wd, or are there spots to go around the waters?
Those water crossings are hard rocky bottoms. I've spent days exploring up there without ever using 4wd, but having 4wd just incase you need it isn't a bad idea
Might get some more that stay to the end of the video if you got rid of the obnoxious chick screaming in ones ear.
Super awesome video such a beautiful view I love the rain overcast
Nice video but you don’t carry cash on you on a moto venture?
Sorry, I'm a city boy... 😆 It was a total oversight on my part

Would you consider the HD Pan American now that it is available?
I would. I think it's a great looking bike!
@@VossAdventures Yes it is and if you haven't already sold your harley gear you could keep it ha ha ha.
@@bigred8438 no kidding! 😆 not that the typical biker garb would be fitting on this bike tho.

Yeah img a 60 year old grandpa that loved his super tenere... no need for sport bike speed.traded my fz09 in for it...no regrets by the way this gramps..runs 3 miles every morning and pumps iron in the evening💪🤣
You got a little over 20 years on me and I'm sure you're in better shape! 🤣🤣🤣
@@VossAdventures thanx bro..the super t is an awesome bike for sure...👍
The stop sign was snowmobiles during winter
Ahhhh that makes sense!
How is the heat management I hear it's a lot during use.
My crotch got pretty warm. In the summer I'm sure it'd be pretty uncomfortable.
I choose a super t over a new street bob..I always seem to gravitate toward these type of bikes..their the tactical do all machines..street bikes are one dementional..pavement only...
You are very very funny
Thanks man 😉
Where is the wooden one-lane bridge at?
I believe that was the Bill Nicholls trail
Awesome. I’ll look into that. Thanks!
Bummer that Woodstock Yamaha closed. Do you still have the Super Tenere? I'm in the market for one.
My Tenere is long gone. I'm on a zx14r now. And yeah, shame about Woodstock yamaha. They were great to deal with
@@VossAdventures Did you have any issues with it?
@@keithert none, it was a great bike. I got rid of it because I wasn't close enough to any gravel or dirt roads. Felt like it was a waste.
