I got a Valentine V1 when I bought my E39 M5 in 2000. I hardwired it to my sunroof power supply and used a suction cup mount like your previous configuration. When I got my 2017 M3, I upgraded my V1 and also got a Blendmount rearview mirror mount. I had an auto shop do the install and learned after the fact that Blendmount sent me the wrong hardwire tap for a V1, so the shop ran a cable to the V12 outlet below the glovebox. The cable's behind the trim so it's not visible at all. Very happy with the mirror mount, would have preferred the direct tap into the mirror power supply. But never have a need for the V12 under the glove box, so no biggie. I know the V1 is old school and its features haven't changed much in over 20 years, but it does the trick.
@@capicapuchino5675 I was able to do the same but with Mirror Mount Radar Detector Bracket on amazon. Costs only $36, doesn't look as elegant as the BlendMount but does the job and seems good quality. For the price I think it's worth it over the BlendMount.
A radar detector is always needed aspecially when you have a faster car and you want more fun and to do not get tickets from cops you need this unit.Tomm I wanted to say that you are lucky that you have this car aspecially it is manual and I love it 🥰
Another great instructive video 👍🏽. The R3 is currently the best radar detector on the market. I’ve read about it. The one con would be that it doesn’t have the directional arrows like the V1 does.
Love how you have your car set up. Question: noticed the black roof ( love the cf look but I have to have my sunroof) did you address this in any of the videos? Couldn’t find it when scrolling thru your list of videos. Professionally painted? Wrap? Thanks
What size of allen key is it, I got mine installed by pro due to the nature of my set-up, but then one bolt fell off, I didn't even have the allen key size that fits it.
Thanks this was very helpful! Was curious how quickly this can be removed in the very remote possibility that you get pulled over? Assuming having the radar detector visible during a traffic stop is not a omen to the cop to let you off with a warning :)

Just ordered a R3, replacing a Escort 9500ix. But, I have a 2019 VW Atlas SEL P. No way to attach a mirror mount (already tried mounting the Escort). Not enough room between the mirror and where it connects to the pivot spot on the cars windshield mount (that holds a bunch of sensors). Ill run a wire from the fuse box up and over to it instead. Looks like I'm stuck using one of the suctions mounts that comes with the detector.
An M3 with a sunroof? How did you find that?? I'm really interested in a M3/M4 with a sunroof, just most of them have the carbon fiber roof which I don't care for
Is there a release button for the connectors with the wires to have a better view when inserting the taps? You make it seem easy but I’ve been yanking/moving them around and they won’t disconnect.

I have an old Redline mounted with a BlendMount bit have it hardwired to the fuse box because mirror is not powered. I think you said the Escort hardwire kit would would work with R3...is this correct?
That’s correct. It worked for me. We are talking about the wire that looks like a telephone plug right? I bought two: one for escort and one for Valentine. They were identical and both worked interchangeably
Is there any radar detector that can be placed outside the car and have alarms on app for example? Unfortunately it's illegal to have working radar detector in my country

@@TommyLGarage the cigarette lighter is unacceptable for my purposes lol.. also the fuse box is just above the brake and gas pedals Edit: After some thought I can probably run it through the drivers side A-pillar to the headliner and down to the fuse box

tjmcdiii actually v1 wire tap is identical to Uniden. They’re all the same :)

My black roof has been wrapped gloss black. I bought my M with a sunroof hence no carbon fiber. I prefer it this way

Yeah it’s an awesome combo, the mount is great. The R3 I’m still learning the settings but it’s saved me from two potential tickets already.

I got the that R3, and I hate how it gives false alarms with damn Honda vans..other than that is perfect that it has laser detector

It took me 6 months to find mine. And yes you get the sunroof if you opt for no carbon roof.
