Timekettle M3 Translation Earbuds Review - Do they work?

  • The Timekettle M3 Translator Earbuds might not be perfect but they have certainly impressed me with their ability to translate things to a point of understanding. After trialing a few different languages in real life situations, they get the tick from me and will be travelling with me in future.

I bought the Timekettle M3 earbuds, but my experience has been extremely disappointing. They are practically unusable as they exhibit significant delays in voice translation and does not trasnslates continuously. They pause translating and skip the conversation going in between. Also it's not accurate. Accuracy would be around 50%-60% only.
Not usable for meetings, classes and conferences.
Google Translate, in comparison, performs much better. I suspect this might have been a sponsored video, but I don't recommend purchasing these earbuds as they are a waste of both money and time.

It depends on what language you're trying to translate with Google Translate. because Google Translate is garbage for East Asian languages. Google will translate sentences into the most unhinged things ever. I use Papago for every language

People should be warned and aware that little as one word can be translated to mean something you never imagined and set off a series of events that could become a dangerous threat or issue that you may never be aware of. Do not rely on any translator without some live person to verify the translation entirely.

I’m considering these for work. What I need is to be able to communicate with Spanish speaking workers until I can speak it a little better. A couple questions. Would they work in listen mode if two Spanish speakers were talking and my device was close to them? How does it handle slang/ obscenities, because on my crews if you don’t understand that it can create confusion? Lastly aren’t there apps that would achieve the same thing? I don’t understand what the earbuds provide if you need a device to do the “heavy lifting” so to speak, couldn’t you just use a regular set of earbuds connected to a translation app?

Asking a stranger to put in an earbud to have a conversation is a non-starter. Until the other person can speak into the phone, this will not be useful for two-way conversations with strangers.

    • @MakeLifeClick

@@MakeLifeClick I just looked it up, and the Fluentalk T1 appears to only have one mic and one speaker. For this to be practical, we need a speaker and mic for each person in the conversation. I don't see that the Fluentalk does anything different or better than a cell phone. We need the device owner to have headphones on and a native speaker to speak into the phone.

It's really not hard to predict the future. In the future, everyone will have an app on their phone that will pair up with another phone with a simple tap. Then you can talk on your earbuds, and the native speaker will talk on their own earbuds, and everything will work perfectly. Alternatively, if you only have one phone, you'll put on your earbuds, and the native speaker will talk and listen from your phone. The issue isn't predicting the next innovation; that's easy. The hard part is developing it.

    • @MakeLifeClick

Not really. Each earphone operates independently for conversations. Hence why you can separate them. Each translation is related through the correct earbud.

@@MakeLifeClick I mean you, that's called spacial audio, and could be done with any decent pair of ear buds like Samsung beans or airpods that has a mic in each bud and is controlled via the programming in the app. Don't get me wrong it's still cool, but until it's built into the headphones themselves without the need of a phone. They're selling an app but marketing the earbuds themselves as the product.
