Punt Road hill is sometimes referred to as Batman hill though I don't believe it is the original location which was near Spencer Street. The MCG is on Batman Avenue which may explain the confusion. There are still lots of things called Batman in Melbourne.
If that's true and the women in your family gave birth at an average of 25, you must be 100 years old. My GGG-Grandfather landed in Williamstown in 1845, and I'm 63.
@@darneyoung537 Williamstown Port was established around 1840, 41 years before your G-Grandmother was born, i'm not doubting your story but I think it was your GGG-Grandmother.
Why is there a Batman Park in Melbourne? Batman Park - Wikipedia The park was established in 1982 through the conversion of a disused freight train rail yard and was named after one of the founders of Melbourne, John Batman with historical associations as a landing place of the Schooner Rebecca and nearby settlement at Batman's Hill.
More on the walk between Black Flat Reserve and Jumping Creek Reserve along the river where you're likely to experience what Melbourne could have looked like in that period if you ignore any invasive foliage and homes by the banks of the Yarra River.
The AI voice over is a huge mistake and there is some confusion in chronology, but otherwise this is interesting and could be useful for those who know nothing of the history of the city.
Why is it called Batman Ave? However, on 6 June 1999 the Premier of Victoria announced that the new thoroughfare would be known as Batman Avenue in order to retain its obvious significant historical association with John Batman (1801 -1839), thereby "preserving the name of one of Melbourne's pioneers."
Having lived in Melbourne & surrounds for nigh on 60 years - there's so much that's missing in this awkward AI presentation. Pity, it could have been very good. EG. Portland not mentioned as the first option as the capital of Victoria? Damn those bloody rabbits!
The river is called Birrarung Marr, the waterfall at ‘enterprise park’ was called Yarra yarra, and misnamed as the river due to Batman not understanding the aboriginal people correctly
@@JasondenHollander-qj5hp No. Birrarung was the aboriginal name of Yarra. Marr means edge or bank ,so Birrarung Marr means the banks of Yarra. Yarra Yarra means waterfall. John Helder Wedge named it. The meaning of Birrarung is River of Mists
Saw this come up on TH-cam & was immediately attracted, BUT, very disappointed in the AI narration. Mispronunciations of place names (should have been checked before being uploaded) could have been avoided if asking a local to edit. The pauses & phrasing in reading were inappropriate quite often, which made listening confusing. Don't be afraid to ask the real locals to vet first & your comments will improve exponentially. Very disappointed that you entirely omitted (my hero) Matthew Flinders & Lt. Linley from your story. They came ashore in 1802 in Port Phillip (Bay) at virtually the end of my street in Mornington. Pretty significant, I would have thought! Keep trying; you can only improve.

@@UntoldStoriesofAustraliaI find the AI voice to be just fine. Thankyou very much for the video. Thank you also for the work you have put into making this video. I appreciate the work you have done.
A very white production. The sound track backing becomes a bit wearing. The voice over has the odd mistake although most would miss it. By the way the word is "aborigines". Using "aboriginals" is very bogan. Perpetuating the white man's history of buying Melbourne without researching modern dialogue had me quit before half way through.
very interested in the topic of the video but disappointed by AI voice over.
Thank you for the input. Unfortunately right now that is the only option we have.
Same. So I can't watch. I despise ai voices
The narration is even more important than the images…. AI voice over destroys and distracts. I’ll read and record them for you if you like.
Why?
Is it such a problem?

Batman Avenue is in Melbourne and runs along the Yarra River and was named in honour of John Batman.
My Great Grandmother was the first female white child born in Williamstown. The Aboriginal women came to see the girl child

I could be wrong, it must be my GG Grandmother then. My mother was 27 when she had me and I’m 76

Melbourne in the 1830's would have looked like Warrandyte State Park today in Fawkner and Batman's times.

I cannot stand the A.I. voice overs. Grinding how it creates the sound for "Bass".
Batman hill still exist, around the intersection of Spencer Street and Collins Street

Only lasted a few minutes with the AI voiceover sadly

The AI voiceover is just too irritating. The whole thing seems assembled AI. Pity, there’s a real potential for something worthwhile.

I agree. I could only watch for one minute before all the mispronunciations drove me insane. Sorry.
There's a Batman Street in West Melbourne
Also the electorate of Batman.
There is also Batman Avenue running along the Yarra.
The story of Victoria is far more interesting, especially when you know that it was illegal to settle here

Don’t use AI to be the voice. It was George Bass, pronounced ass. It discredits your work with it’s poor annunciation.
