I saw Waylon five times in concert, two times with Willie Nelson. He was amazing every time. One of my all time favorite country singers.
King of Outlaw Country!!
Waylon single handedly changed country music and how business is done in Nashville. He was the only one who ever told the Nashville Executives he was gonna do it his way, and they were gonna like it.
Greatness at it’s purest
This is Waylon in the raw.
Feeling lose and in full control of his music. He was instrumental in the driving force behind the Outlaw County movement. His album 'Wanted! The Outlaws' was the first Country album ever to go platinum in 1976. Really the first Country artist to use his own musicians on his recordings. He had to fight for that, and he one.
Thanks for reacting to this Country ledgen and try another song sometime. He has well over 60 albums spanning 4 decades.
As he described it his stories as his 'crazy years' .
Waylon Jennings was never in The Traveling Wilburys. He was, however, one quarter of the Highwaymen country supergroup, which consisted of:
Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, & Kris Kristofferson.

"Lonesome On'ry & Mean" was written by Steve Young (who also wrote "Seven Bridges Road" - the Eagles).
*********
"Highwayman" was a perfect song choice for the group because each of the four verses represents a specific person in four different times. Of course, each is sung by a different man.
The group's name evolved out of the song title.
**********
"The Highwayman" (written by Jimmy Webb ) was their first single release from that album of the same name. I request that you cover it (find the video of the live version, taped at the Nassau Coliseum in 1990). It's a terrific performance by all four men (who, by the way, were all in their fifties by this time, but age didn't show in that performance!).

One Waylon Jennings' song that you may actually recognize is "Good Ol' Boys," also known as the theme song for the television show, the "Dukes of Hazard." Waylon not wrote the song & sang it, but he also narrated every episode. His character's name was "The Balladeer." Anyway, it's a cute little novelty song that was huge hit worldwide, as was the tv show.
**********
Waylon was one of first to bring a rock element into country music, which is well represented here with "Lonesome On'ry & Mean,"
but he sang all kinds of music. Please react to his version "Whistlers & Jugglers," which was written by the incomparable Shel Silverstein. It's a quiet little ballad.

I enjoyed your post. Best wishes from Page in Birmingham, AL.
What's to say? Classic Waylon!
Waylon was the best. No one comes close.
Waylon Jennings was mentored, you might zsay, by buddy Holly. He played bass guitar and was apar of the crickets
No ma'am, not with the traveling wilburys, he was one of the hywaymen
He was also with Buddy Holly and the crickets
Waylon played bass for Buddy Holly after Holly split with the Cricket's. Waylon and Buddy Holly were best friends. Waylon was suppose to be on that plane with Buddy Holly. J.P. Richardson (aka The Big Bopper) had the flu and asked Waylon if he could have his seat on the plane so that he could get checked by a doctor before the next show. The heater on the bus didn't work, so Waylon gave J.P. his seat. Ritchie Valens and Tommy Allsup flipped a coin for the seat and Tommy lost the coin flip. Buddy asked Waylon if he was scared of flying and Waylon said no, J.P. needed to see a doctor. Buddy joked with Waylon and said, " Well I hope your ol' bus freezes up". Waylon said, "I hope your ol' plane crashes". Waylon believed for many years that he caused the plane crash.
Waylon had a unique voice. Buddy Holly produced Waylon's first album. He believed that Waylon had a big future in music.
Waylon forever changed the direction of the Country music industry. He didn't like being told what to do. In Nashville, you did what you were told and kept your mouth shut. That didn't work for him.
His autobiography is available here on TH-cam and it is very entertaining.
Waylon Jennings is my absolute favorite male country singer. I highly recommend "I've always been crazy" and "Good Hearted Woman".
Waylon was a little dehydrated here so this was not his best vocal performance. But he was known for having a great voice. Only Daddy that'll walk the line, I've always been crazy, outlaw bit, his version of a Roy Orbison's "Crying" shows his vocals. Good review.
Waylon was probably high here. He was well known for his love of Amphetamines.
@@phil-1115and large quantities of cocaine
Waylon Jennings is struggle Jennings you should listen to some struggle Jennings he sings a lot with jelly roll train tracks enemy
Waylon Jennings was a member of the Highwaymen, with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. He was also a member of Buddy Holly's Crickets and escaped death when he gave up his seat to J.P. Richardson (the Big Bopper) on the night Holly, Richardson and Richie Valens died in a plane crash. In his mega-hit American Pie, Don McLean memorialized the event as "the day the music died."
It’s hard to pick my favorite from all his songs but this one is definitely at the top of my list.
He was supposed to be on the plane with Buddy Holly the day the music died
He was in the Highway Men with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson.
I've always enjoyed Waylon's music especially from the 60's-80's. I remember his theme song "Good Ol' Boys" from "The Dukes Of Hazzard". Some other songs I like are "Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line", "Luckenbach, Texas" "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys", "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out Of Hand?", "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way", "Good Hearted Woman", I'm A Ramblin' Man" etc. He was part of the legendary Highwaymen supergroup with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson & Johnny Cash.
Highwaymen not Wiburys Waylon, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson,, and Kris Kristofferson. Not a singer?! Get a hearing aid . He was brilliant, picking lead riffs while singing lead, with what a range! Country Music radio ignored him. "This Time" You need to hear a lot more of him!!
Hang on,, here comes the train!!!!
I’ll second the request for I’ve Always Been Crazy.Waylon is the greatest artist ever first artist to go platinum
I would like to request a song by Waylon Jennings, called "I'VE ALWAYS BEEN CRAZY" a really good song. Thanks
No not in the Traveling W's He was in the Highway Men with Willie Nelson Johnny Cash and Chris Christoperson
He kicked a $1500 a day cocaine habit cold turkey. Played bass with Buddy Holly
Bwahahaha...hippie lettuce! Jim, your reaction is priceless! Thanks for sharing your memories of traveling Greyhound! Your smile and rocking your head from side to side tells me you are someone I could hang with, you sly dog! 😄The Traveling Wilburys members were Jeff Lynne (ELO), Tom Petty, George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan. Love this channel and love from Texas 🤠
Not playing the guitar? Using a pick? Most guitar players use picks to play their guitars. Eddie Van Halen used a pick. Don't insult Waylon in such a way. Chet Atkins used picks. I mean come on. If you don't like country music just move on and skip the video. Whatever.
Waylon Jennings outlaw country yellow too much of a holy roller for me sorry
