  • Join BZ Travel in Episode 53 of our Ultimate World Cruise as we explore Nagasaki, Japan-a city of profound historical importance and stunning natural beauty. Nestled in the narrow valleys of Kyushu Island, Nagasaki's scenic harbor and mountainous backdrop are overshadowed by its poignant history as the second city to experience an atomic bombing during World War II.
This episode takes you through our emotional visit to Nagasaki, beginning with a serene journey through Nagasaki Bay, under the expansive bridges, and into the heart of a city marked by its past yet vibrant in its present. As we walk the streets of this resilient city, we head towards the Nagasaki Peace Park, the memorial dedicated to promoting peace and remembering the tragic events of August 9, 1945.
At the Peace Park, we stand at the epicenter of the atomic explosion, reflecting on the immense impact of this event-not just the immediate destruction and loss of life, but also the enduring call for peace and the moral questions it raises. The park serves as a reminder of the horrors of nuclear warfare and a beacon of hope for a future free from such calamities.
We share insights into the day's somber visit, from the complex emotions at the Peace Park to the surprising ease of navigating the city via its efficient streetcar system. Nagasaki's story is not just one of historical significance but also of incredible urban resilience and recovery, which continues to inspire visitors from around the world.

At this point I have been convinced to do a South American cruise, and now an Asian cruise, if I can manage it. These are the best port stops ever. Real ports in real cities. No fake islands! Thank you for doing all this video work!

Beautiful weather for this insightful visit. Our cruise there, last April, was raining but saw the Museum and Peace Park. You really showed the other park, near your ship, very well! This is a very emotional port of call but had to be one to visit. We did go into the Dutch City allowed by the Japanese to their foreign trade. Again, very good video; one of your best as we follow you daily!

What a beautiful city - and I also found your footage and reporting on the Nagasaki bomb very emotional. All those lives lost. But also amazing to see how the city has recovered from such brutality and today seems a really lovely place. I loved all the trees on the streets and how clean and ordered it all was. Looking forward to the next stop!

Took me a couple days to have the emotional courage to watch this just bcuz of how horrible this was, there’s always another way to solve things besides mass murder. I know it was a different time and I’m too young to have lived it or known any of the reasons why some could reach this as a conclusion to end the war. There were other options but …. Well I will leave it at that. Thank you for showing us this beautiful city. That peace park was just…. 😢 but so glad it’s there.

Yea, - Leave it to the thousands, and thousands of GIs that would have been killed taking Japan in a D-Day like invasion. Did you ever see how the Japs were arming their women and children with spears, to kill Americans that hit the beach. Almost the entire population were full fanatic freaks,,,,, totally loyal to the emperor - and if that doesn't work ,,,, Remember Pearl Harbor!

Adding to my bucket list, cruising around Japan. Having lived there, this is such a different experience.
I also think the Nagasaki Peace Park Museum is much more "intense" than the one in Hiroshima. It was hard for me to take.

“Crime against humanity!,??” You mean to end a war of aggression that the Japanese REFUSED to surrender? Smh

Thanks for bringing up this tough topic. The bombing of Nagasaki was a brutal chapter in history-plain and simple. Dropping a bomb right near a school and wiping out thousands of civilians wasn't just a military tactic; it was a horrific act that ended countless innocent lives. Discussing this isn't about pointing fingers but acknowledging the raw truths of war and ensuring we don't gloss over the real human costs involved. It's crucial we remember this harsh reality as part of our shared history.

I understand your emotions about visiting the site, but this put an end to the war.
The US helped rebuild everything. It's not an excuse, but there would not be world cruises if history was different.
None of us were alive back then, so we can't understand the decisions that needed to be made.
You've also spent a lot of time at different temples. May I give you a better alternative!
Jesus said, "'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except, through me."
