- Cultivating the human in an era of intelligent machines
A conversation with philosopher and gardener Jeremy Naydler on artificial intelligence, consciousness and spirituality
Advanced technologies and artificial intelligence are rapidly growing more enmeshed in our lives. How does this affect the deeper realms of consciousness, spirituality and our relation to the living world? As the artificial becomes more adept at mimicking life, does life itself risk becoming evermore machine-like ? What are the unfolding human qualities that machines cannot acquire and how might we cultivate them?
This event will include both a conversation between Jeremy and Ingrid onstage as well interactions with the audience.
Jeremy Naydler, Ph.D., is a philosopher, cultural historian and gardener who lives and works in Oxford, England. He regards the deepening of our lived relationship to nature as an essential counterbalance to technology’s overshadowing of the natural world and of our inner life of soul and spirit. Recent publications include The Struggle for a Human Future (2020) and Gardening as a Sacred Art (2021).
Ingrid M. Rieser is the host of the Forest of Thought, a podcast exploring our ecology of ideas, and how we might come to live well in relation to all living beings. In her work she engages audio, video and writing to explore the current predicaments facing humankind.
This gathering is part of a series of events during the fall 2023 under the theme of “Life-force: deepening conversations on desire, ecology and consciousness” hosted by Forest of Thought Podcast and NAV Sweden, made possible with funding from the Viriditas Foundation (viriditasfound...)

Great session, important to stay grounded and develop your inner stillness. My big worry is the relentless advance of ultra-processed food and synthetic meat.
I so enjoyed this. Jeremy is such a font of wisdom.
The answer to these questions and the problem of a.i. is the Christ (not the church). That Christ is within us all and when we turn to that very real presence of Christ, that is here now, sitting in me and sitting in you ,we will have the will to move into the future with confidence and fulfilment of our true potential. Getting back to nature is getting back to the nature of Christ.
