The point that Ben made about us needing to work on ourselves is so good. Are we working on AI harder and more diligently than we are working on ourselves? If so, imagine the implications.
What if both are the same? What if by working on AI we are working on ourselves. If you consider most people aren't working on improving AI, this is true. People are improving skills so they can improve AI. Stretching their own knowledge and critical thinking to increase the lateral growth outside of scaling laws.
Vegetables are surprisingly sensitive to their surroundings, capturing the essence of their environment in unique ways. Studies suggest that plants can respond to stimuli such as light, touch, and even sound, adapting their growth and behavior accordingly. This responsiveness might be seen as a form of awareness, where vegetables adjust to maximize their survival and thriving potential. The idea that plants could possess a basic form of consciousness challenges our traditional views and invites us to consider a deeper connection with the natural world. Such insights can deepen our appreciation for the complex lives of vegetables and their roles in our ecosystems.

I have plans. Biggest thing is Language Models will never be AGI. Imagine a person, but strip everything away besides their ability to communicate. Hence the answer. You have to add all those things back to the LLM. Once you can do that, you will have AGI. LLMs are now far better than the human equivalent. But they are just one piece. We keep making pieces, but struggle to connect them. Like diffusion models and deep dreaming as an unconscious dreaming process. A lot of the pieces that are out there have open source options. Just need someone to put them together, and that could be you, but I plan on it being me.
@@rmt3589 well, you are right and this approach is something. For me, relatively small language mode, image recognition and most importantly sensory inputs in a specific way are important for AGI.
54:58: There is so much truth to what he's saying. I can't judge any of the math stuff, but when comes to the spiritual/wisdom dimension, Ben Goertzel is at a high level.
20:00 I do have some ethical concerns about that concept. It seems to me that we first need to think about the implications of what that can create. Does it need rights?
Ben Goertzel, CEO of SingularityNET, discusses the evolution of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) in his podcast. He explains the concept of AGI as intelligence that surpasses task-specific AI to achieve a broader, human-like cognitive ability. Goertzel emphasizes the importance of decentralizing AI through blockchain technology to ensure it remains open and ethical. He also explores philosophical and ethical dimensions of AI, especially relating to consciousness and empathy. Highlighting the societal impacts and technical challenges of AGI, Goertzel advocates for an AI development path that aligns with humanity’s best values and promotes positive societal outcomes.
"empathy" in nature is expressed by animals in a very few cases. Majority is just meritocracy/survival of the fittest. Why the leftwing has this obtuse tendency to try to shift this balance towards empathy? Leftists are working against Nature (ie agains ourselves)
Matter is inherently relational, not conscious. Consciousness emerges out of that relationality. To say matter itself is conscious is to ignore emergence theory.

we need much more research into this field. i have a feeling, that we probably only know about 1% about what it needs to understand consciousness. Its interesting to listen to different perspectives. Ben Goertzel, CEO of SingularityNET, discusses the future of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) on the Eye on AI podcast. He envisions AGI achieving human-like intelligence, revolutionizing sectors by enhancing creativity and decision-making. Ben emphasizes decentralized AI and blockchain for ethical development, aiming to mitigate risks of centralized control. The conversation also touches on the philosophical aspects of AGI, including consciousness and empathy, with a belief that decentralized systems can benefit society rather than pursue narrow, profit-driven goals.

The notion that everything is conscious is not like the notion that everything has a position in space and time If I tell you the cups location in space and time you can use that information to differentiate between other objects at other locations and times. There is discriminatory information that is communicated when location and time are specified. If I say this cup has x units of consciousness and that cup has y units of consciousness, it tells me nothing. No discriminatory information is communicated The word just doesn’t carry any information when used outside the context in which it was created, which is a word we apply externally only to other agents that *behave as if* they were aware of their own awareness Saying person X is conscious and person Y is not conscious tells me what kinds of behaviors I can expect from both. It has predictive and explanatory power in this context. Outside of behavior, it has none
14:27 Digital Autistic Psychopaths. Interesting ablist use of words. But, even if true, I don't see the issue. People who put intelligence over emotion, clearheaded albeit with difficulties in communicating it. The singularity may not take us to more gadgets but possibly no gadgets....based upon how much this living organism, called Earth, can take. All these technologies are pulling many resources out of Earth. We wouldn't have been able to have a lot of gadgets without Earth. Without Earth we will have no gadgets.
