      WIX is very nice with a good airflow, almost like K&N, but WIX wins with to filter micro dust while K&N doesnt filter at all micro dust.
      But... if really want to have good filtration of micro dust... Hengst and Alco are the winners.

      That's going to be a apples to oranges. K&N flows more air, but doesn't filter as tightly. The test bench would need a method of capturing the particulate matter after the filter.

    A couple things on testing filters: the rate they clog up can be because of surface area, but it can also be because of how fine of particles the filter can filter out, might check and see if you can find any info on how small of particles can a filter catch, probably listed in microns

I started cutting open my used oil filters a few years ago to check for debris and noticed the difference between Wix, Napa Platinum (both excellent) and Honda OEM (pretty sketchy) filters immediately.

    Man excellent vids as always. Keep it up. 👍👍
    Been using Wix which is the same as NAPA Gold on 2019 F150 3.5 almost since day 1.
    Its about twice the size of the Motorcraft filter.
    I finally quit sending oil sample for testing because it became a waste of money to tell me I could have left my oil in longer.
    3-3.5 K miles oil change regardless of conditions. Brush dust off filter element and continue on.
    Here in Southern New Mexico our super fine dust/dirt is mostly silica based and volcanic ash/eroded magma and lava rock.
    All highly abrasive and some iron content in the lava rock. Paper filter doing the job.

    Test the airflow of K&N air filters vs others

    • @TheBandit7613
      @TheBandit7613 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Can't test the airflow unless we monitor how much dirt is getting through. I don't know anyone here in the desert that will use a k&N on an off-road machine. The engine will ingest too much dirt.

    • @edwardelliott5756
      @edwardelliott5756 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The K&N will blow everyone away with its airflow but will also allow a lot of small particles through. Project Farm did a very thorough test of multiple brands. After watching that I took out my K&N and got a Wix. For a track day I’d put the K&N in, just for the day.

    • @jeffsanders7691
      @jeffsanders7691 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with everything said here but i use K&N air filters personally because of my underpowered vehicles. My wife’s 2018 fusion with the notoriously unreliable 1.5 L has That engine shut off feature and takeoff can be kind of a drag when the thing Has to start especially if you need to take off quickly. Switching to the K&N was a game changer in my opinion. Would love to see further testing in this area.

    • @edwardelliott5756
      @edwardelliott5756 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffsanders7691 Might I suggest that you take a look at the air filter box and it’s snorkel - hose to the outside air. Ford is notorious for making the air horn, snorkel or hose to the outside air somewhat restrictive in order to quiet the intake. Opening this up could add some hidden power at the expense of slight noise at wide open throttle.

    Don't more pleats reduce airflow hence performance.

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily because if the engine is able to retrieve the amount of air for its own volumetric efficiency and the pleats don't affect the flow like that then it doesn't matter how many are there but if you do have more than affect the flow and it cuts into the volumetric efficiency that the engine needs then yes but you have to figure that out

In all honesty, I didn't notice any "full throttle" difference or actually any difference between it and the K&N 33-2272 although the K&N filter is a lot heavier. I'm curious if any of the other air filters you've looked at have the "Each filter is coated with a special chemical (surfactant) that enhances initial filtering efficiency and capacity", or "Coating is formulated to help resist damage from oil and moisture Polyurethane seal material provides superior sealing when exposed to high and low temperature cycles (-40 to +250 degrees Fahrenheit)", or "Impregnated with phenolic resin that retains the pleated shape when exposed to heat and moisture" that Motorcraft claims? Or is all that just marketing BS on Motorcraft's part? Also, gotta just leave this here - th-cam.com/video/NJKlb61_kXU/w-d-xo.html

    I'd like to see this WIX air filter vs the AutoZone red premium stp air filter now that would be interesting 🤔

    Wix is a good company. Fram not so much unless they've changed their quality standards in the not too distant past but somehow I doubt it.

    So... let's talk about air filter life.

      The fuzzy filters, as found on Toyota, seem to be able to filter perticles into the depth of the filter medium, not just on the surface. Same goes for oil filters that have a thick, fuzzy medium.

      @@jamesplotkin4674 What does that have to do with "standard" service intervals or filter lifespan? I get different filters can hold various amounts of dirt but how less efficient is it at those levels?
