I think most of you know the story by now, but Lupine Lane Co. was inspired by my cottages. Before I’d ever even started looking for property I’d been in a really low space, and felt totally lost. I wrote a journal entry to myself promising I’d “find myself again in a cottage surrounded by a field of lupine”. Months later there I was; whole and thriving, living in a cottage surrounded by a field of lupine.
This journal design was born one night last July while I sat out on my screen porch, sipping wine and looking out over the flowers. I folded up a piece of paper and began doodling and imagining my perfect journal- in the style of an old hardcover book.
journaling helps me figure out what’s going on in my head, it helps me really sit and be present with my thoughts and hopes and pains and observations. Leafing through my journals helps me see how far I’ve come, and where I’ve been.
I like to think of these books out in the world, in your hands, filling up with your stories, and your ongoing paths through life. I really hope you love it as much as I do.
Oh, and the tote’s pretty cute too.

Compile a master list for Winterizing & another list for Spring preparation, so you won’t forget anything since you are challenged to remain focused & items can be checked-off when completed!!! Have a section in your journal just for household projects! Homestead, cottage projects, etc.!!! & by using this format you will be overall organized & can easily add to the “Seasons To Do List” as needed.
this is a great idea! I'm compiling a digital "house bible" for my place that will include lists like these, as well as a calendar for when every task needs to happen (with auto reminders!). building it in Google docs for now but if anyone knows if a software exists for this purpose I'm all ears!

Agreed! Start taking notes now of the details you want to be sure to address later. It's so easy for them to slip away, and the best time to capture them is when they are fresh. My favorite approach is pinning a sheet to the fridge, just add things as they pop up and then they can be sorted and properly organized later.

As a chronic "over-thinker", I love that you just dive into projects. Experience is the best teacher, and all my over-thinking doesn't save me from making mistakes anyway. Also, I still have to tell myself "righty tighty, lefty loosey" whenever I grab my screw driver. Seriously. And I'm 55 years old…I mean, young.

Hanna what joy you bring in sharing your life! Today is June 4th, my son's 46th Birthday. Brian unexpectedly died six years ago. I'm not being maudlin: Brian was amazing. He accomplished so much! He tackled anything with TH-cam by his side. Thank you for your joy in going for it and even when it doesn't work the first time, you don't let it stop you! I am a psychologist who has always colored outside the lines no matter what I was doing, no matter what age. I bought my first home at 17 and had a blast making it mine. You are the reminder I need that I can still go for it at 70! Besides all my friends would be so disappointed if I didn't! Thank you Hanna.☺

Lavrnder Dryer sheets keep rodents away. We used to lay them everywhere in our camper and it was always clean from any rodents when we came back. We of course cleaned up before we used it, but it was so much better because there were never any mouse poop droppings or anything. Kept spiders at bay as well. Some natural essential oils will keep certain pests and rodents away as well. Like peppermint oil. Love your videos!! It makes me feel like I'm not alone when I fix up my own home alone ❤😊
Some are toxic to our pets though. Read up on which ones before use.
Irish Spring soap cut up and sprinkled around keeps animals away too👍
Regarding dog pushing head against the wall; it can be sign of a toxin or neurological damage (mostly forebrain and thalamus)
Looks like Finn may be "head pressing", my friends dog would do this.
Head pressing is a behavior demonstrated when a dog compulsively faces a wall or corner and remains there without moving or appearing engaged in any kind of activity for a period of time. Head pressing indicates a dysfunction of the central nervous system and results from a variety of illnesses and injuries. It could also be a symptom of a type of seizure called a partial seizure or a focal seizure. I'd get him checked out just in case. ❤

Hi Hannah! I love that you're making a journal, I've been journalling since I was a kid! It looks beautiful! If I could make a suggestion, it would be really nice to see inside the book in the picture carousel you have on the site, and to know the paper weight :) I like to use markers and stick stuff into my journals, so it would be very useful to know these details

If Finn does his head like that a lot, you might need to have him checked, I've read if dogs do that. Sometimes, it's a problem with the brain. I didn't want to be negative but I couldn't let it go. I love your journal! I can't afford one, but it's gorgeous. Go lupine lane co!

Yes its called head pressing and it's not some comical thing dogs do. Mine did it and had a brain tumor. I hope she has him looked at immediately. My dogs tumor was growing and causing pain. All that noise and singing etc... is not good for him if he is in pain. Vicki
The journal and tote look so beautiful and whimsical! Also an idea: instead of throwing out the broken mirror glass, you could break part of it into small pieces and then using some concrete mix make some really magical looking mosaic stepping stones

Hi Hannah! I don’t know if you’ve had Fin checked for the head pressing, but it could be a sign that something is wrong. Potential causes could be brain tumors, strokes, inflammation of the brain, nervous system infection, hydrocephalus, or metabolic disorder. It very well could just be a quirk, but if you haven’t already, you may want to speak with his vet about it.
Told her the same thing. She didn't seem concerned. I lost a dog to a brain tumor and the dog was in pain. I hope she takes someone's advice and sees a vet.

Most women inherently feel the need for security...it often comes as a place to call home. My sister dated a guy, they both worked for the same company on travel jobs. He owned a home were she grew up and he always wanted to sell and tried several times. It stressed her out really bad because all her family and kids lived near that house, and she would have no permanent place to call home if he did. He ended up cheating on her while on a job, he left permanently and she bought the house.

Just a tip for the linens: whenever we close up our family cabins for the winter, we put all the linens and pillows and duvets in to garbage bags and tie them shut so that the mice don’t poop/chew/ or make their homes in them 👍

if you are ever interested in explaining what tools you’re are using, how, and why or expanding on what you’re doing when you’re building that would be so cool! i’m 17 and bought a van a couple months ago. your life is inspiring because it’s similar to my dreams. it would just be interesting learning from you. but i get if that doesn’t fit your content. you’re a really cool person. good luck with the bathroom :)
If she doesn't, you can always ask here, I'm sure many of us know. Like the first tool she used was a reciprocating saw. It has different blades for wood, metal, etc. It's kind of a demolition tool for purposes just like she tried it for, ripping stuff out. I've also used mine with a wood blade to trim tree branches and cut tree roots on volunteer trees I was removing. I never thought I'd own one but darned if I didn't find a use for them. From a female tool geek, it's never too early or late to learn! Lol 😊

@@nottheone582 I'm more apt to buy tools w cords, especially if it's not something that will get a lot of use. I've had tools before that got so old and there was no battery to replace anymore. I don't want to keep buying new.
Personally I used them with what I call a fearful respect...properly, carefully, and controlled. Learned that years ago learning how to drive most farming implements.
However if that makes you feel less afraid of your tool that might be the way for you. We still have to be mindful of the what ifs.
The kids dad had a very serious accident with a grinder and a cut off disk, cut below his elbow down to the bone, pinned down by a fallen spare tire under a pickup truck while I was off getting parts from town. He never did get full innervation of his hand back. He was lucky he only severed the nerve. He blamed it on a faulty switch. I'd seen him be careless with things before. Who knows.

I don't want to be alarming but Fin's "head pressing" behavior has me worried (as a dog mom) - it could be nothing, but if you notice him doing that frequently it can be a sign that something is wrong with him nurologically - I'd get him looked at just in case! if this is the only time he's done it, it could be nothing though - but please watch for it being a re-occurring thing!
I told her the same thing and she said he wasn't pressing his head, just facing the wall. Dogs don't just stare at the wall like that whether their head is pressed or not. It's quite often neurological, mine had a brain tumor. She said he was behaving very strange in a prior video and she gave him a time out. This is alarming and I hope she takes him to the vet.
Just an FYI in regards to Finn pressing his head against the wall. If he does this regularly you might want to have him medically evaluated. There is a condition known as head pressing that can be a sign of a neurological problem caused by multiple things.

When a Dog or Cat presses their head against a wall or whatever , it means they have a headache . Also pressing its head against a wall means they may be sick or injured. Head pressing is a sign that something is affecting the cat or dogs nervous system This is what my Vet told me .If the Dog keeps doing this often , I’d ask a Vet ❤
