    If I were you, I would spend the next few months weatherproofing windows, doors, and walls, and installing a new heater. This way you can stay warm for longer during the winter and come back earlier in the spring. Save some of your indoor projects for when it gets cold, like fixing up the kitchen.
    Anyway, it's been fun to watch you overturn this whole cottage, your drive and passion is really inspiring, you should be very proud of yourself. I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll do next.

      Watching all she's done. I thought oh she could just make square and octagon wood frame and seal off with plastic and the curtain she already has. Get rid of the wood stove for safety. Get the small propane inside little tanks. Whatever she does will be amazing. Will enjoy her progress or just her holding still in filming whatever it is she's doing in the moment. Awesome clothes also what a great deal.

I've followed this journey and have fallen in love with the leisurely transformation a space can go thru when a person doesn't get stressed or in a hurry to get thru a project. You've taken your time and now have a beautiful sanctuary just for yourself and those you choose to share your time with.

    Love it all! FYI: those window coverings you're making for the screens on the porch, install them on the outside or else the snow and rain could still get through the screen, pile up behind the curtains and eventually push them forward allowing snow and rain inside. As I see, Hannah's got a lot of storage room available.
      So, being her, I would consider to add something to her own idea: Measure all the windows holes of that inner porch, get clear acrylic glass sheets cut in shape, and put them in wood frames which can be mounted tightly fitting in a way to be taken out as soon as the weather becomes comfy, an be stored in the second cabin or in the shed, as plexiglass is not that heavy.
      Their advantages are to really keep snow out, let the light in, and add a bit to insulation.

    We had a porch like that on our Montgomery Ward kit house log cabin turned home. I went wild at tag sales for shutters and mounted them on the outside for snow and rain. I had done the curtains like you are doing but wind still sends snow inside that way, but shutters on the outside kept it out. I also found that the shutters did not have to go all the way up because of the roof overhang and so there was still great light. Projects never end when you are as creative as you are. You could only be one or the other according to "societies very judgemental non-soliticed opinions". One thing to consider when it comes to storing firewood in the house or on the porch is that can introduce wood boring insects to all that wonderful wood you have. That would make them a real cozy place to live and breed and bore to their tiny little hearts desire. Ask me how I know... Anyway now I keep my firewood away from the house and make the trek out to the wood pile to get it. I only bring in what I intend to burn at that time or shortly there after. So the wood is still cold-ish and anything living insides it is still dormant until it is in the firebox.
    Since you do have propane you might think of getting rid of that POS stove and getting a propane stove to replace it. It would make your heating so much simpler for the times you are there in the winter.
    Third suggestion, in the winter close off that upstairs and just live in the main part of the house. I would bet that most of your heat goes up there and the rest out through all of that glass. Yeah a three season place but a really nice one too.
    Sorry for being so long...

    • @patchouliodonovan9529
      @patchouliodonovan9529 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are woodstoves now that are more energy-efficient than modern heating solutions and I think Hannah enjoys the vibe/way of life of having one. The real key here is upgrading to a stove that is more efficient and appropriate for the space, and insulation, insulation, insulation.
      I'd be willing to bet that the roof in the loft space could use a lot more of it.
      Better windows would also be ideal, but it's expensive, in the meantime, thick insulating curtains would help and for when it's really cold, making some foam insulation board panels to blank off the windows at night (like a beefy version of window covers for campers) to keep in all the heat and maybe consider leaving some of them in place during the day on the more redundant windows.
      Insulation will also help keep the place cooler in the summer.

    I live in Canada and I have a set of doors that lets snow in. In late fall, it’s a door I use to let the dogs out and it snows in badly. I use thick plastic and just staple it over the door on the outside, except a flap that I need for the dogs. Since we can get up to 5’ of snow and -40f, it works well. Then in spring, I take it off.

    Great video as always. You've taken a little cabin in the woods and added many changes and improvements to make it more livable. Definitely Hannah's Home. It is filled with your magic. Congrats.
    Weatherization should be a priority. Tarps, shutters or framed acrylic windows are all possible remedies. Keep the wet outside of the screens.
    Stay safe and well.

    I love what you've done with the entire cottage. I loved all your changes they've just been outstanding. What I think would look really cute in the kitchen, a port hole window. Or 3. Your kitchen kind of reminds me of a galley and I think the round windows would look adorable. Granted it's not cottage style, but ,you know, just a thought.

    • @michelelezbo

    • @patchouliodonovan9529
      @patchouliodonovan9529 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also agree portholes are cool, or at least a round or otherwise interestingly shaped window if the ship vibe is just too much. Might be cool to chuck a porthole in the bathroom too. Personally, I'd have a large one that opens above the toilet and get a smaller mirror on a swivel stand mounted in the corner that can be tucked out of the way or moved to the right spot, but I know Hannah loves her mirrors, so maybe three small ones across the top of the wall behind the toilet just to let in some light and greenery would work.
