    Brave doing the marathon. It will be great. I'm so glad you really feel a connection with the audience. As for the hat and cowl set.. I am biased, but the Does Diamonds Hat and Cowl are amazing ;). However, it is nothing like the Marie Wallin patterns you were mentioning, so maybe not what you're looking for.

    I used ladder back jacquard for the Unbearable Hat by Les Garcons. On many of the projects in Ravelry you can see the floats because of the long spaces between the bears. This technique worked out perfectly and I did write out a little schematic to plan it before diving in.

    The color of your Syrah suits you so well 😍😍 A perfect pattern to use the ladderback jackard technique is Let's Roll by Zoei Proulx 😊

    Ahhh wow so many great knits and ideas and announcements in one episode! The magnum opus, the woolly worldwide, the live stream, it's gonna be so cool!! Loved seeing so many fun colors, those bright penny gloves are amazing. I think the knitting world has converted me to wanting fingerless mitts - I might have to knit myself a pair this year with some bright stash yarn! And you are going to look so darn cute in your Holly Sweater! Props to you for tackling such a complex project!

      thank youuuuu and yes of course we love a good bright red ! I'm sure you can whip up a pair with scraps. And says you with your garden gates japanese one (is that the name?). Working my way up to complexity aha :D

    I love the neckline on your Syrah sweater because it doesn't look like it is chocking you like some crew necks are too close and too high on the neck. Your Christmas sweater is looking beautiful. The colors are perfect. Another sweater that is perfect for the ladder back technique is the Miserina by Caitlin Hunter. I am really enjoying your podcasts.

    • @thewoollyworker
      @thewoollyworker  ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you, and yes, the neckline is really good and not too open either ! and the yarn is next to skin soft, so no worries about a tshirt showing underneath. And WOW yes that is exactly what i was looking for !! thank you :D

    Your charity knitting livestream is such a wonderful idea and such an incredibly thoughtful way to mark the one year anniversary of your podcast! I too volunteered for the Samaritans in Boston many years ago and this inspired me to go back to school and become a licensed mental health counselor, so I will definitely plan to attend and contribute on the 2nd! Your projects are so beautiful as always and that Christmas sweater will be gorgeous!!! As far as matching accessories, I am intrigued by Amy Christoffers’ Pressed Flowers patterns ( which include a hat and cowl) and think the motif could be adapted to the penny gloves as well. Happy Holidays!

    I always weave in ends on garter in the "ditch" - in between the ridges in the same direction. I use a sharp yarn darning needle to do it, it splits the yarn, and works out so it's invisible. Maybe do one strand per row? On stockinette I go through the purl bumps like you have it there. Hope this helps!

    I did not knit melange sweater but was thinking about doing it. So, I watch podcast Those twins who knit, one of the girls run into the problem with marbling two yarns due to difference in knitting in flat and in around. She knit the whole sweater flat to fix weird pooling and inconsistency in marbling.

    • @thewoollyworker
      @thewoollyworker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll go watch that ! And wow, that's commitment! Interesting that it's a known issue with marling, I hadn't considered it before but I'm glad I was warned beforehand !

    Personally I prefer lifted increases when I’m trying to hide them, or when the increases are spaced out. I think they’re a bit less obtrusive. But for something like mitts where increases are more frequent, I also prefer M1 because it creates a clean line like you said, with the increases appearing to grow out from a straight edge.

    • @thewoollyworker
      @thewoollyworker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, that's a good way of looking at it ! Making lifted increases for the yoke of my Holly Sweater and I agree, they blend in more !

    Such a great idea - the charity knitting marathon to celebrate your YT anniversary! And a very worthwhile charity. ❤ I was interested in hearing your opinion of left and right leaning increases! I just learned how to do that stitch because I'm knitting fingerless mitts (Cloudburst by Arienne Grey on Ravelry) and I find those stitches to be rather "fiddle-y". Especially the left-leaning. Now I wish I'd stuck with the M1R/M1L. And, I'm so happy to see you bought the Hedgehog Tweedy! I gifted you the Sawyer pattern and am excited to see how it turns out (eventually). 😊 Happy knitting, Vanissia!

    • @thewoollyworker
      @thewoollyworker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww thank you, you definitely motivated me to take the plunge on the hedgehog aha !! Will be a great challenge. And for the increases, I think it also depends on what yarn is used, for some it'll look worse than others ! But they definitely require a bit more thought than the classic M1R and L. In the end, it's such a small detail !

    I love your videos and your accent is adorable. One caution- weighting (pronounced wait-ing or way-ting) is different from weighing (pronounced like way-ing). Weighting means hanging a weight on something, while weighing means seeing how heavy something is. So for a second I thought you meant blocking your hat by hanging a weight on it. Spinners can get into debates about weighting their yarn so beware 😅

    • @thewoollyworker
      @thewoollyworker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that ! I'll be extra careful with the pronunciation! I have the same issue with "collar" and "colour" aha :(

  • @Glaleria
    @Glaleria ปีที่แล้ว

    I knitted the melange sweater for kid size. And she did not give that tip on the kid size pattern. So I just knitted with the balls parallel and I did turn up with a difference in the flat and round part. The flat part twists more naturally because you turn your work. That was nicely marreled. However, the flat part was not so much twisted so the collours ended up pooling a lot more. Not so much speckly as the flat part.

    • @thewoollyworker
      @thewoollyworker  ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for saying ! Will definitely be careful then. Shame the tip wasnt in that pattern !

    Hi Vanissia! I am soon going to cast on the Miles collection by Anna Daku, which is a lovely set of hat, cowl and mittens, all in the same pattern - maybe that's something like what you're looking for? Also, for knitting melange, I've heard a German podcaster (who just finished the Melange sweater) say that she brought one of the threads through the middle of the other ball of yarn and pulled from the middle from that one, so that the yarns "automatically" twist around each other while knitting them. I hope it's clear what I mean. Maybe that's something worth trying. Her sweater looks great and the marling is pretty evenly distributed, I'd say (Noordknits on TH-cam and Instagram, but in German). Hope that helps! Thanks for your amazing videos, I will definitely be joining the live knitting on Jan. 2nd! :) Happy knitting!

    I have knitted a melange sweater and did not twist my yarns. They may have twisted on their own in some parts, but I just knitted without worrying. I don't see any difference between the flat and in the round sections 👍

    Hello Vanissia and hello from Belgium. Really like your podcast, the detailled information given in such a pleasing way. And impressed by the progress you made in such a short time. You do have talent ! I was wondering, your penny gloves, do you knit them on small circulars ? Or did you use magic loop or dpn’s ? I personally find small circulars for mittens and gloves often not small enough. I’m interested in your method…

      I've made the cozy classic light and I did like it, but I much prefer the fit of the Syrah so far ! I'm tempted to try a bunch of patterns and remove some attributes to just keep the basic shape (maybe remove the colourwork on some) ! Just to get a classic fingering weight sweater
