I use this Schertler Stat-V exclusively and find that if you shave off the bridge "wing" under the e string judiciously and shave (sand) the cork at the pick-up head exactly, that the amount of "wing" that is removed does not change the sound (I have used it on my 18th century italian violin). I wouldn't hack off the wing completely as this is not necessary. A tight and snug fit is all that is required. If you rotate the pickup to another fiddle with a different bridge opening you may have to shave the cork and add more cork (available thru Schertler) but do not remove all of the original cork. Also, this pickup works with just about any pre-amp but the Schertler Yellow Preamp has a 150 hz and 220 hz cut button that helps with the bow change snap sounds (you may have to take more care when amped with this). The Stat Pre offers a more rounded sound with a little less detail so I use this only as a back up. All in all I haven't found anything better that this!

I must say I have yet to hear a violin bridge pickup that I like the sound of out of the box but you did make it sound much better with eq and fx and great playing

I listened carefully the Stat-V sound. Very warm and deep bass, clean and transparent. A little less realistic in the treble, probably due to the limited frequency response (12Khz). Overall it's a great pickup. Ps: congratulations on your performances!

Right on Vince! The fact the high freq are shelves that much is helping the sound to be that warm. Most time we cut a lot of the 18khz and above in the mix anyways. It's indeed a great pickup option! Thanks a lot for your kind words man. Cheers!

You would never want to amplify 12kHz+ 😂 unless you want your ears to bleed.
