    Thank you. I’m a 60 year old American (old New Englander) who’s leaning quite a bit from you. My wife and I are planning a future trip to London for our 35th wedding anniversary. We’re utilizing the resources here on TH-cam to learn as much as possible about British culture. You’re becoming an integral part of our research.

    it's not the first day that there has been talk that youtube is living out its last hours in my country, if this is really so, I would like you to know:
    There are hundreds, maybe thousands of others, but i prefer to be here. I have always found here a little more then educational content. I watched and I saw that image of this lovely girl for me become embodiment of all the best in British culture, which I certainly love, appreciate and respect, she is reserved but open, polite but inaccessible, beautiful in the end. I saw the brilliance of her beautiful eyes that radiate only those who have overcome their shortcomings and overcome their fears themselves. I saw in them the sadness of not being able to comprehend the incomprehensible but endless striving for it. Maybe it's just my imagination, or maybe it's purest truth.
    P.S. I hope my life time is enough to see how our great cultures get closer not to bite each other's throats, but to make the earth a paradise for everyone.
    P.P.S. for everyone who found my comments worthy of attention,- Yellowblue vase! (meaning is nothing, pronounciation is everything)

    "Antidisestablishmentarianism", I had no idea about it, but it seems to be the opposition to the disestablishment of the Church of England.
    The dictionary Merriam-Webster said that the longest word right now is acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), which refers to a tough rigid plastic used especially for automobile parts and building materials.
    Either way, you are my favourite English teacher for sure.
    I am from Sweden, so probably I have made some mistakes here and there in my English, but hopefully it is okay enough to understand.

    Greetings from Brazil! Once again another excellent video, I like very much these linguistic topics. By the way, "Bow" is also an important device used by musicians for playing the violins, cellos and basses, Eventhough, this word has the same writting and sound, in this context, I am sure it receives another meaning, since it is associated to a very specific area.

    Awesome video. I appreciate your efforts for this lesson. If someone wants to improve English speaking skills or overall English language, should one focus more on formal, standard or literary words, or on informal, slang words? And which kind of accent most popular in terms of American or UK?

    • @JadeJoddle
      @JadeJoddle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Word register is extra information that you can find out about a word when you are learning it. Good dictionaries include this information. Vocabulary is usually learnt by topic because it makes it easier to remember related words. I suggest you pick vocabulary topics that you need or are interested in, then you can pay attention to word register as ‘extra info’.

    English is my only language and I didn’t know the majority of these terms! On formal /informal. I think email and job interviews are becoming more informal nowadays - influenced perhaps by online chat, WhatsApp and social media? Is formal a little TLDR?

    Цікаво, що в Українській та російській мові немає хомофонів/homophone, можу помилятися, але мені здається, що неможливо знайти слова, котрі пишуться по-різному і при тому звучать однаково.
