    Thirteenth season with my Honda HRX with hydrostatic drive and I couldn't be happier. Just this spring I took the carb off and gave it a good cleaning inside and out and it runs like new again. ZERO issues with this mower and it starts on the first pull 90% of the time.

    Helps alot of people who are prone to wasting huge amounts of money and end up spending on a lawn mower that they are not satisfied with. read up reviews, or better yet get feedback from people you know before purchasing a lawn mower, watching this video helps alot as well.

    Just go back over it when the clippings dry a bit and the lawn will look much better.
    I find it better not to water wash them as it leads to rust and corrosion. A stiff plastic scraper removes the grass and won't scratch the paint off. I like to maintain my mower in top form. It doesn't seem like work to me but more like fun.

    My lawnmower is 35 years old, has over 1000 hours on it, starts on the first pull every time. CUTS WAY better than any new mower I've ever seen. And is lighter than new mowers. And has way more power than newer mowers, and not to mention it is really easy to work on which I never have to do, just normal maintenance is all lol, hell it's only broken down once in 35 years and the only thing that went wrong was the condenser that failed. Lets see a new one do that job for 35 years and run like new

    I think the way of the future, even the present, is Li Batt lawn and yard equipment. I have entirely switch, batt chainsaw first, then leaf blower, hedge trimmer and finally lawn mower. I even gave away my small gas cans. You won't believe how much time and fuss you skip without pull cords, fuel, spark plugs, motor oil, air filters, etc. The vast noise reduction and lack of vibration and exhaust is a real pleasure.

    Have a Husvarna 7.75 mulch ,side discharge with bagger option.Refuse to get an MTD product regardless.If I get another it will be through Sears so when it breaks down they come pick it up ,repair it then return it. That is what makes sense to me.Don't have a flat golf course lot to mow

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go through sears and you'll get nothing but garbage MTD products. Unless you go to a dealer you get a garbage product...sears products the past several years have not been good, wouldn't even give them a passing grade.

    You're overthinking it. - Just buy a major brand (Toro, Exmark, Snapper, etc) with a good engine(Kawi, Honda, or top end Briggs), with an aluminum deck, optimized for bagging if you bag, for mulching if you mulch, but convertible for sure. Skip the blade brake clutch (better airflow and vaccum) if you don't bag a lot, choose rear wheel drive with a variable speed transmission, and get the most expensive you can afford, it will last a lifetime. These low end consumer models people pour over are all bad buys in the long run. A $600 investment will last you 20 years or more. A $350 one may be dead in 5 years. LCO - 22 years in the biz.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent advice. Although self propel isn't exactly needed, its nice if you mow a large yard or mow several yards...and rear wheel drive is much better than front wheel drive. Also get one that is variable speed for sure, sometimes you need to go faster or slower depending on the conditions. The blade brake clutch is junk, avoid them they tend to not function properly and as I've experienced cause the mower to bog down far worse than a standard mower without that added nonsense.

    I think Toro and Honda are great lawn mowers for homeowners, and Scag, Exmark, and some models of Toro, John Deere, and Honda are good for professionals. I would never recommend anything bought at Lowe's or Home Depot because they cheapen the product. And for Weed Eater, I have scissors better than those lawn mowers.

    I have a Electric Mover and it does great on my StAugistine Grass. There are many times of grass and a mover must be suited for these grasses. StAugistine grass is a different grass than Carpet grass. So you must get a mower for that grass. I’d agg a lawn car person as to what mower for my Lawn. Easy Peasy. That being said I follow you Vids for my Purchases.

    Snappers get longevity vote. Toro Proline 21" 3speed self propelled with blade brake clutch gets vote for commercial duty mower. Reel mowers for quality of cut and as for power, just keep up on mowing the lawn so as not to remove more than 1/3rd of height per pass. Work your way down from highest to final height of cut and the #1 rule, if the grass was green BEFORE you mowed it, it SOULD be green AFTER you mow it. If not, you are mowing too low!

  • @mattgotsskill
    @mattgotsskill 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    actualy high torque will give you better cutting..... thats common sence... the faster a blade is spinning when it hits the grass , the more pounds per square inch makes contact with the grass blade... resulting in a CLEANER CUT , for instance if a samurai cuts a candle at a very slow speed , it will crumble... if they do it FAST its a smooth slash all the way through.

    • @seth_5394
      @seth_5394 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      mattgotsskill Torque and speed are not mutually exclusive my friend. Like those giant earth movers in a rock quarry... they have torque like a motherfucker but no speed. I think the average mowers like the type in these tests are like 5-7 hp. Probably not enough of a torque difference to translate into improved function of the machine.

    In 1990 consumer reports rated the MTD lawnmower I bought WORST. My front yard cutting area is 30x50 and backyard is 50x100. It has lasted 24 years and was the cheapest front wheel drive you could buy at the time. Consumer reports suck !

    • @brucec43
      @brucec43 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You think maybe they might be saying that not every single mower goes bad, but more of them? Do you think the same people work there as 24 years ago? Some old dude is out there testing mowers?

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, very true, but I bet you most likely have done at least some regular maintenance on it, otherwise it wouldn't last long, like anything else if you take care of it, it will most likely last longer.
      Consumer reports, consumer guide, and many others are notorious for spewing out a bunch of nonsense and they are paid off by the companies they give great reviews to doesn't matter if the product is trash, if they say its a great product the product company pays them a bunch of money to give out fake information.
      I'm not saying go buy a $2,000 push mower, but at the same time, if you buy that $100 mower you may not be happy with the results, or how long it lasts which is most likely what you'll find is it just falls apart much faster than a bit more expensive one.
      Another thing is you don't need to buy new, you can buy a used mower as well LOL.

    thats bullshit about the power.the more torque/hp you have the more it can hold its RPMs up in thicker grass. the more torque-the taller the grass you can take on. the more hp-the faster the engine recovers if you bog it down.

I don't mow grass for a living, sure I'll cut someone else's lawn occasionally, but I refuse to buy those underpowered electric or battery powered mowers. My equipment starts up on the first pull even after being stored through the winter...its all in taking care of your equipment in the off season which many people don't do, they'll go buy a new mower every year as a result of their lack of common sense.

      I Just Did A Fart I don't cut lawns much anymore as I now have a full time job, I still cut 4-5 a week but nothing like the 20-30 I used to do each week. Its still fun to go out and mow lawns, but having a full time job kind of cuts down on my extra time, and now I'm working 5-6 hours on Saturdays now as well so I have even less time to do anything LOL.
      Mowing lawns especially in the summer is a great way to earn extra money and gets you a great start in the workforce for later in life.

    That guy is mowing too fast for the tall thick grass. Raise the deck or slow down. You can also improve cut quality with more overlap on your rows. Mulching is improved with this method. If grass is heavy, slow down, overlap, and don't cut off too much at once. This is mowing 101. The hose cleanout thing is idiotic. Just let it dry, grab a broom handle or whatever, and take 10 seconds and scrape it clean. No big deal.

His goal is not a perfect lawn, it's to show differences in performance between different models. Your condescending offering of common sense knowledge is not required.

      If you're looking for a great bang for your buck mower that's well built, will give you a nice cut, and last for a long time, go with a Toro mower. The Recycler is a good choice and offers the best value but if you need one a little more durable and one that will mulch better, spend the extra money on the Super Recycler. They're not a lot more but I have one and it's a great mower. Toro's personal pace self propel system is also among the best on the market according to many reports. Mine is the push model so I've never used it. Looking for the best mower out there, go Honda. They are BY FAR the best mowers you can buy. They're more expensive, but much nicer to use, better built, and the engines are bullet proof. I just invested in a Honda HRX (the one the guy used in the beginning of this video) and I have to be honest, nothing compares to it. It's a BEAST. It's got a wonderful hydrostatic self propel as well as the blade clutch which is the best feature ever when bagging. The engine is so powerful, handles grass that would stall out most other mowers and would bog down the Toro and has the best cut I've ever seen from a hand mower. Like I said, it's an expensive machine but it's worth it, there's a reason Honda is the choice of landscapers. You definitely get what you pay for. You can get lower end models for a much more affordable price though and still have a great mower. In summary, Toro = great value, great mower. Honda = top of the line.

    • @brucec43
      @brucec43 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      mhtube01 I started a lawn business with two 21" Super Recyclers used for small lots and such. They lasted over a decade of commercial use, despite being "homeowner models". I use commercial ones today ($1300) but honestly the lighter home versions are easier for the operator and cut as good or better and rut soft areas less. Virtually never break down, other than maybe needing to replace a worn wheel (2 minutes) or adjust a cable.

    • @mhtube01
      @mhtube01 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bruno TaTa I don't doubt that, they're great mowers. I wasn't trying to put them down or anything, I was just saying that I prefer my Honda HRX over my Super Recycler. Now granted, the one I have has no options, not even self propel. But in terms of cut quality and how well it mulches, it's among the best. My Honda is a much fancier and much more expensive mower with features like shaft drive self-propel, the famous blade clutch system, and Honda's twin blade system which comes on all of their mowers. I have a video of it on my channel if you want to check it out. I will say the Toro is definitely lighter than the Honda is though making it easier to push and maneuver around tight areas. But the Honda engine is so quiet and powerful and is much more refined than the Briggs and Stratton on the Toro. So it really depends on what you type of mower you need. Both are equally worth a look and are built solid. I've always owned Toros and they've been excellent and this is my first Honda mower and it's far exceeded my already high expectations. I don't think I'd ever buy another name brand other than those two. The others just don't compare.

      CaptianClutch exactly... I know mowers because i Mow a lot but to someone that doesnt they need a split screen and the pros and cons listed of each mower or the mowers lined up and under each of them say what they do and what lawn they work best on...

      So far after using my toro a couple times I'm not impressed. Course the choice of engine that Toro put on this model "Briggs & Stratton Easy Start" is the problem, the rest of the mower is fine. That easy start system doesn't work worth crap once you get it started you better not stall it or shut it off till you are done, otherwise good luck getting it started again.

  • @topfin8441

    1:16 is bullshit. The reason it looks like that is because he did not overlap his cut and left some grass uncut. OVERLAP WHEN YOU MOW BY 1/4 OF YOUR MOWER.

    These guys up their Consumer Reports clearly don't know what the hell they're doing the Honda mower he showed at the beginning had rear discharge and it would destroy every other mower they test so I don't know what they're talking about some don't discharge well well no shit Sherlock if you take $100 Walmart push mower and put it through 8 inches of grass of course it's not going to side discharge worth a shit there's a reason that Honda stays at the top of the line when it comes to mowers or anything with a gas motor

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They only show stuff that the company paid them to show, consumer reports is wrong far more often than they are correct on anything. Your last place to look for guidance on buying anything is consumer reports or consumer guide, neither are reputable.
