    I bought the Honda Mower in 2006 and 9 years later, I couldn't be happier with it. The selling point for me was the ability to slide a lever from full bag to full mulch and anywhere in between. The fact that it still starts on the first or second pull is just another plus.

    Regarding mower maintenance, that's my personnal tips here:
    Oil: Change at the start of each mowing season, 10W-30 is pobably fine
    All-around greasing of tractor: Before each mowing season
    Air filter: Change when dirty
    Fuel: Don't bother emptying the tank at the end of the season, don't bother with stabilizer
    Blade: Sharpen with a file before each mowing season, change when too much metal has been filed away
    Spark plug: Don't tough them unless engine runs bad
    Belts: Change when they break, get any belt that fits, don't need to be a "LAWN MOWER" belt
    Tire: Check pressure at the start of each mowing season, 10 psi all around is probably good
    Store your machine indoors and clean the deck after 5 cuts. Never had any trouble.

      Simon Richard I'd have to suggest adding stabilizer to combat old gas in these engines. Stabilizer such as sea foam also helps clean out gunked up carbs. It's done wonders for my saws, zero turns, and tractors I've owned. Old gas gumming up is one of the most preventable and easy was to keep them running and starting perfectly.

    Go with John Deere for lawn tractors, Toro for ZTR's and Honda for push mowers. They will last forever if you take care of them!

    Fun fact: you never see commercial zero turns on this channel because they don't want to put in the effort to show you the commercial grade mowers and just stick with the residential models because they are way more cheaper.

    I already knew most of this, since we have sold lawn and garden products for over forty years.
    Many of their trip rated products we sell, and have sold, for many years.

      Crisp Cuts Landscaping We have a thirty year old Yard Man Mower that still runs very well, and I do abuse it!
      We sell these products (Except Yard Man, which in the past, we did), and have been reasonably reliable, as long as you care for them with the proper maintenance.

    • @andym1223
      @andym1223 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Frederick Rothe III Ok. I do not recommend abusing your equipment, it is bad for the engine. I do repair engines as a side business, and I can tell you, I have not gotten 1 Toro or Honda in my shop yet. Only MTD and Husqvarna. But I agree that you can get anything to last if you give it proper maintenance.

    None of the manufactures make a side valve engine anymore it's just overhead valve versus overhead cam

    I'd like to see them review a few battery powered reel type mowers one year and compare how they compare to each other as well as battery powered rotary mowers. I'm certain that they'd perform best for most people, last longest, and require the least maintenance.

    Why buy new when a 30 year old used mower costs 50$? And it often cuts better, looks better than today's plastic toys and is easier to work on.
    I bought an early 1980's John Deere 116 lawn tractor a few years ago for $300, put another $100 in repair. It works perfectly and will probably last another 10 years.

    • @andym1223

      I have a 2002 LT150 by John Deere and could not be happier. Also, I have a 1980's John Deere RX75 that couldnt run better.

    what about cut quality, blade tip speed and which cuts the best in wet conditions...

    • @frothe42
      @frothe42 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NEVER cut wet grass!! Always wait for the grass to dry. Why? To prevent clogging of the mower deck.
      The best time to mow is later in the day, before the setting ☀, as the grass has dried from the heat of the ☀, and it is cooler in the day. And ALWAYS USE FULL THROTTLE WHILE MOWING; prevents premature engine failure due to inadequate cooling.
      Look at the engine on your mower as a window fan; it needs air to cool the engine, the hotter it is, the greater the need to cool. You don't put a fan on low to cool on a extremely hot day, do you? So ALWAYS use full throttle while mowing!!!

    • @jaarryifleshblood315
      @jaarryifleshblood315 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You use high blades for wet grass

    • @andym1223
      @andym1223 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I cut in wet grass, just not in extremely wet grass. To prevent clogging the mower deck, side discharge or bag. Also, clean the mower deck after you mow wet grass. I have clients yards to take care of, and I cannot wait until noon for the grass to be completely dry. I only wait until it is barley wet. And I take very good care of my engines, being a small engine mechanic myself. That being, I also always mow at full throttle, and check it every day.

    • @frothe42
      @frothe42 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never cut in wet grass! Clogs Mower, and ruins the grass!
      Best time to cut lawns is towards the evening, lawn is dry. And doesn't hurt the grass as cutting during the hot ♨ daytime. Early morning is also good, as long as lawn is dry.
      This I learned decades ago.
