The Gunpla that means the most to me I've built almost 3 years ago. It was the MG 2.0 Shin Matsunaga Zaku II. It marked my return to Gunpla while I was fighting T-Cell Lymphoma. I really thought I wasn't going to build again.
A gunpla that means a lot to me is the ZZ ver ka. I remember getting a pen pal in japan for a school project and both of us were big gunpla fans. I started talking to him in 7th grade and all through high school. In my freshman year I really wanted that ZZ ver ka a ton but none of the hobby stores would stock. I usually sent my pen pal american comic books because he loved batman and Xmen so as a thank you one of those letters was in a box holding the ver ka. I remember being really excited and happy to get it. I remember getting into painting at the time and actually started to think of painting the ZZ with with new air brush I saved for. It went really well and I still have it. Me and my friend met one day and he saw the great kit he gave me. We know hang out a lot when he comes to the US and build gunpla. ZZ ver ka is just that special kit that made an amazing friendship. So yeah I'd say it's an important kit to me.
Hm...funnily enough, the normal MG Unicorn means a bit to me, because my coworkers got it for me for my birthday. I work in a mailhouse, and I wasn't really expecting anyone to get me anything...so the fact they did makes me really glad.
Does that include the color corrected pieces or just the white pieces that allow for better mobility and head cannons? If so, it’s basically just a repackaged ova with ver ka decals, right?
the model kit that means the most to me, i actually only built last month! ive been friends with someone since we were 8, but having known each other through family, and having disconnected from my family since moving out of home, we lost touch with each other. but just last month, they reached out and offered to buy me a present for christmas! it was a really sweet move on her part, and she bought me the sazabi ver ka. since she bought it for me, we've started to talk more, and we plan to start playing pathfinder together. every time i see that model it makes me happy, reminds me of my oldest friends and it makes me happy they would get me something that i cant really afford since im poor and on disability payments, and that they would be so generous to someone they havent spoken to in forever. love you star!
A kit that means a lot to me is the HG Garazzo from Gundam 00 that my aunt got me when I was like five. Just recently, I managed to find bits and pieces of it like the torso and half of the head. It was my very first gunpla kit and probably was one of the factors that made me love robots to this day and decide to study engineering. I do wish that I could find the kit online to build once more after so many years.
I had a similar story with originally being into gunpla and then losing interest till around the time of Covid. I found the gundam planet store in NJ and fell in love again after getting the Sandrock and Virtue MG kits. It’s been a nice change of pace!
the MG Wing Zero EW holds a special place for me. my brother bought it for me as a gift, we thought it was just a normal figure and didnt know we had to build it. i was very confused but my brother stayed up and built it for me. i lost it quite a bit ago due to damage but it is still one of my favorite gundam and gunpla in general
My story is slightly similar to yours. I was building gunpla in elementary and middle school because of the popularity boom of Wing over here in the west. I very succinctly remember even as a kid being hugely disappointed in their color accuracy. At the time I didn't know anything about the grades, in hind sight I realize I had mainly built no-grades and HGs. All of them were strait built. In my fervor to get them closer to the box art pictures, I used sharpy to panel line, and paint-by-number paint for paint. I did a little bit of research and in middle school I tied up the hobby by getting the PG RX-78-2. Yeah its crazy to think about it, but I built a PG in middle school. I even remember being disappointed that the core-block detail needed to be painted to look like the manual. I remember too that it was during a week of snow in the middle of winter break that I built it. After that, I didn't touch the hobby for 7 years. The kit that's important to me is the one that brought me back into the hobby. It was the RG Freedom Gundam. I don't know, I saw pictures of it and immediately thought that I HAD to build it. Its the first one I used nippers for, cleanly panel-lined, did the full de-cal sheet, and top-coated. Now the thing is an absolute mess, floppy as all heck and super brittle. But man did I stare at that thing all the time after I built it. I'm not one for merch or posters or other decorations, but that single gunpla was the only thing I had on display during College.
For me it’s the HG Build Strike Gundam Full Package, as it’s my first one. Never thought I would want to keep building soooo much more after building that!!
The RGM-79 GM and Pod Ball holds a special place in my heart, when I was a kid my auntie gave me figures of both, now I have the GM 2.0 and Ver. Ka Pod Ball
The 1/100 HG Deathscythe Hell was my first Gunpla kit right when Gundam Wing first aired on Toonami. Miraculously, it’s still holding up! Still on my shelf, despite many other kits of that era falling apart.
My parents helped me to use some of the Amazon Gift cards that I got for Christmas to get me a Master Grade Barbatos. It ended up being my first build of 2022, and it was my first MG. I loved the experience despite how I wasn’t as experienced in model building, and I was using the wrong tools. The kit means so much because it was the one that made me realize how important using the right tools is. When I got to building the rifle, I noticed how one of the parts had broken during transit. Thankfully I was able to find what had broken off before I threw any bags away.
The gunpla kit that means a lot to me is, the MG Gundam Mk II 2.0. My first kit is the RG Gundam Mk II Titans version that I bought it in 2015. But being first timer, my building skill was awful. Nubmarks everywhere and I lost some armor parts when building it. So I'm not satisfy with it, and unfortunately because college activity I quite neglect it (my gunpla hobby). Fast forward to 2020, my desire to building a gunpla are coming back again to me, and for this time I'm trying to do it properly. I picked MG Mk II 2.0 as my restarting point in gunpla hobby, and I bought proper tools for build it. And I finally built it, give it some decal, a little bit of paint in some of the parts, and topcoat it. Beside some imperfections, I satisfied with it. And that marks my return to this hobby until now.
I haven't been able to complete much, although my closet is full of kits, but my pride and joy is Shin Matsunagas White Wolf Zaku. I didn't have an airbrush, but I dry brushed metallic paints on the inner frame, added metal details, an LED in the bazooka, a third party cannon with metal parts, and gave Shin a nice painted pilots uniform. In quality, it doesn't look much different than the Kitzconcept Veritech beside it. Still so proud of that build.
There's a few Gunpla kits that mean a lot to me, the old 1/100 Vigna Zirah kit is one of those as it was my first kit and was found at a yard sale by my mom and thought I'd like it. It's the start of my love and or addiction to Gunpla. The Sinanju Stein ver Ka was not just my first ver Ka and one of the first MG kits I bought, it was the first I bought at a con and was having a pretty rough time and building that kit really helped me through that.
My special gundam kit is my first MG kit : Exia, i bought it at 2014 i guess...this is the kit which opened my eyes about how really fun working on an MG kit. Until now i prefer to built MG kit more than other grade lines. Though at that moment, i still a newbie about gundam, my Exia snap fit with full of nubmark. Several years later i decided to digging out my old Exia and tried to clean all the nubmarks, and finally give it water decal, and it looks great! This Exia such a memorable kit for me. Until now i still keep my mg Exia with me, though i already move out from my parents house where i leave many of my gundam kits in there. 😊
The RG Unicorn is the set that got me back into Gunpla in a big way, having done a handful of kits like 10 years prior. At the end of 2019 I saw the 1:1 Unicorn, and bought the Gundam Base version as a souvenir. It was just in my closet for months until around April 2020 when we were desperate for something to do with my kids during Covid lockdowns. I completely fell in love with and was hooked to the hobby. I snap-built dozens of kits throughout the pandemic and it kept me sane. I built basically everything I could get my hands on until I started focusing on Universal Century. That same RG unicorn was the first one I took apart to try painting and water slides for the first time as well. I still have it, configured as a red psycho-framed Full Armor so it stands out in my collection, and I’ll probably keep it forever. I’m currently building up the RG Unicorn Special Coating Ver. so yeah, even if I’ve built so many iterations of Unicorns I don’t seem to get sick of it 😅
Hmm.. there are actually 2 gundam model kits that have a special place in my heart and those would be also Ver Ka's and they both have HUGE sentimental values for me. first is the sazabeast, though it was a bootleg this was during the pandemic and as i was building my Dad asked me if I was building Optimus Prime, I laughed and thought that if i gave him an explanation He'd be confused..so I just nodded. Covid got the best of him, fast forward to 2023 my girl and I split the cost of a Bandai sazabi Ver Ka. built it again but this time the whole 9 yards in the process (sanding, marker details, and waterslides) in memory of my Dad, and is now at the top of my display shelf. second would be the Sinanju Stein Ver Ka. also bought a bootleg version of it (the bandai variant was so hard to find) and this was a tough time for me since my mom died of a heart attack before I finished it, i just looked at the kit with the upper extremities finished, this was a dark time had no motivation for the hobby. Finished the kit, sold it off and just happened a member of our local group was selling one, Bandai of course, bought it with no hesitation before someone got to it first. did the same thing with the sazabi, built it, whole 9 yards, and is now mounted on my bedroom wall. these 2 kits don't remind me of the heartaches that tragedies gave me, but a reason for me to keep on living, and setting them up in action poses brings back memories of the 2 of them. So Yeah, if i were to give up my kits these 2 would stay...and also the ones that my girl gave me as a gift. MORE POWER
My HG Saviour Gundam means a lot to me. I love the Saviour Gundam design but there's no modern model of it and everything out has really old engineering. I got the HG 1/144 to practice painting. I always straight build everything at that point with 4 HGs done so far. I got to building the HG Saviour and wow did it lack color separation. Didn't use any of the stickers and used some spare acrylic paint with alright results. My paint job screamed amateur lol. Regardless, i had fun with it and spent a hella ton amount of time with photoshoots of it. Through time, I experiment different add on parts simple articulation mods along with trying giving it an IBO spine. Some months past, the ball hips gave out. The shield connector snapped everything seemed so fragile. I felt so sad after being so excited about it and tried to salvage it but i didn't have any satisfying results. Saviour was relegated to the storage. Some time later, i had a friend that always brighten my day. My day would be complete with interactions with this friend. I had a spark to get a rather modern kit to kitbash with the remaining Saviour parts. Me and that friend had a major falling out. Never mind work and hobby, i was in a slump with my entire life after that. Something in me made me want to restore the Saviour instead of an original idea. I painted the modern HG red to fit the Saviour's color scheme. The HG was the HGCE Destiny, with probably the best articulation of any HG. Right now, my HG Saviour is standing once again (needing of a better paint job). I'll continue to improve it as well as myself in hopes to "save" whats left and save my friendship. So dramatic lol
RG sinanju will always be always in my heart as it is an introductory kit for the hobby for me that made me fall in love with the process of building gundam
I can totally relate with your story about the Ver ka. Kits in Japan. I got into Gunpla this summer when I was visiting Korea for the first time in ~8 years to see my relatives. I was into collecting other figures, and I was near a Gundam base, so I checked it out. I was mostly interested in Kaiju related stuff, so I ignored most of the gunpla (huge regret of mine now lol) but it was still so different to what I had near my home that I came back a second time before leaving for the airport with my family, and the family friend who was driving us offered to get me a model as a goodbye gift, so i chose the paint model eg strike. If they hadn't offered that, I probably never would have gotten into the hobby.
I'm still pretty new to the hobby but I think my HG Calibarn is one of the kits that means the most to me. It was the fourth kit I did and where everything started to click for me. It also really helped illustrate how even if the stickers can be a pain they really help the feel of the kit.
A few years back, I got my first hg Zaku 2. It's sitting on my shelf full of well built and panel lined real grades and master grades. Covered in nubs and stress marks, slightly messy sticker placement. I can't bring myself to clean it up. The questionable build quality feels like the beginning of a journey. It's definitely my most sentimental kit and part of the reason I keep buying Zakus.
This past Christmas I started into the Gunpla hobby. For some reason my TH-cam feed started showing Gundam content which went into Gunpla content. I found out the MGEX was like the best kit in recent history so I told my wife. She gifted me that kit for Christmas. To this day it is still in the box because I want to make sure it is the very best kit I build. I went and asked other family members or used discount events to get me what is now an 8 Gundam collection, most of them 1/100, but I did get a 1/144 to get started and potentially screw stuff up. I think that I just need some glass files (I already have two sets of Godhand pliers and Gundam markers for panel lining) to finally get started on the MGEX. I will take my time with that build and make sure everything is as perfect and special as possible as the person who gifted it to me :)
The Epyon. It was the 1st ever model I ever built. I remember getting it from Toys R Us when I was a kid. Built a lot of kits after, quit building for a long time. And the MG Epyon was the 1st kit I bought when I got back into the hobby. So the Epyon holds a very special place for me.
Ever since seeing the anime, I fell unconditionally in love with the Unicorn Gundam. Some people like how it's in Unicorn mode, me I like destroy mode, and that's how I keep my mg Unicorn Gundam, mainly because to me Unicorn mode looks.....well kinda bland.
I got into gunpla at a pretty early age I would say, coming off of my childhood excitement for lego I never really found another hobby I wanted to invest in. Began with Gundam 00 as a series and ended up loving it immensely but I didnt really have anything from Gundam at the time. On a whim I stopped by my local hobby store and found the HG Arios and since Gundam 00 was the only series I knew at the time, I ended up buying it but had no tools, no understanding of the hobby, and no experience with building models outside of premade lego sets. I still have that kit to this day and among the almost 100 kits I own today, I can't even say its my favorite, nor is it one I hold in high regard (mainly due to my lack of skill while building), but I owe it a lot for being my gateway into gunpla. 11 years later I still build gunpla on a regular basis and still (mostly) get that exciting feeling every time I rip open a plastic bag full of runners.
One fond memory I had was building the MG S Gundam when it came out was a fun experience. I was young and didn't have proper tools so I recently found it and gave it some love.
I have two kits that mean a lot that I’ll never let go of: I recently went to Japan, and of course brought back as much Gunpla as I could. I really wanted to grab the Gunpla-Kun kit but just had no more room in the suitcase. In December I had a FriendsMas party. One of my close friends and her fiance had got me Gunpla-kun, without asking or even knowing what kits I do/don’t have. Back in the summer, I travelled a few hours away to shoot photos at a private drift event. One photographer I’ve never met but talked to a lot online told me he was going. We met, then I went back to my car to get my gear. I hear my name, turn around, and that photographer had the MG Deathsycthe in his hands, and said “I got this for you!” Again, had never met him prior. (Obviously returned the favor and got him a kit at the Tokyo base)
I started Gunpla very recently. I built the Entry Grade RX-78-2 and I now know more about Gundam's than I ever knew I would have. I have a long wishlist, little money, and lots of patience. I am excited to continue this journey. I've been doing tons of research and came across your channel and have been binging it. So, for me the EG RX-78-2 started it all.
The model kit that means a whole bunch to me is the MG RX-78-2 3.0. It was my first kit as well as the HGUC RX-78-2, and both were fun to build and play with. Also nice video man, you've told me (and everyone else here) pretty much everything we need to know.
The no grade 1/144 force impulse gundam would be my most memorable kit. It was the first kit I bought when I was 5 years old and I used a $6 coupon that I received from music lessons near an asian gift shop. My dad gave my brother and I old no grade seed kits at the time and this made me excited to make my own first purchase.
Thanks for choosing to look at this again, been thinking of buying one and modifying it someday soon, so this kinda furthered my want to do so. The kit that means a lot to me is my first kit truly, the Mg 2.0 Freedom was a gift from my friend who wanted to get me into the hobby. Fast forward two years and I’ve built a dozen kits and have no plan of stopping. The freedom is amazing but I would be a little careful, the plastic in the right arm joint actually snapped on me, reposing it after about a year, but that was my fault. So I’m gonna turn it into a diorama in a few months when I can afford some resin, can’t wait.
Finally hit a “full circle moment” where I just built the MG Heavy Arms. Like many, Wing was the gateway to mecha, which was 24 years ago. During that time, I was able to build the HG Heavy Arms and one of my favourite toys. Fast forward to today, I’m now in my 3rd year of Gunpla building and not slowing down. Happy to be in this space.
I've been building gunpla pretty infrequently for a few years now. I think the one that means the most to me is the MG Eclipse. It was the first MG I built where I was happy with the end result, and felt comfortable the entire way through.
Ive always hear bad reviews and bad experience on MG Unicorns but as far i build one or two of my own i find it kinda not true at all ive had a blast experience and it was pretty solid in my opinion... It might not be the best kit for articulation, but i find unicorn as a statue standing glorified on its own :'D
My first gunpla was a no grade wing zero custom. I had a lot of fun building and learning what gunpla was. I have since lost its weapons. But I still keep it in my display as an example on how far I have come.
The Gunpla that has the most meaning for me is the RG Build Strike as it is the kit that got me started with the hobby. Back in 2018 I was on a trip to Sydney in Australia to visit some family and my cousin took me to a hobby shop he knew that stocked card games, board games, and other collectibles like anime figures. While we were looking around we found our way to the Gunpla section where they had a massive wall of shelves with kits of all grades and scales. I hadn’t watched much Gundam beyond IBO at that time, and they sadly didn’t have any of the IBO designs I liked in stock so I opted to go for whatever kit jumped out at me most, with the build strike being the one that stood out amongst the sea of boxes there. When I built it I made heaps of mistakes and even broke a few parts, but I was still very happy with the result and proud of the build despite my screwups and have kept building ever since. Next kit I’m building is actually its MG counterpart
My first kit that got me back into the hobby was the HG Beginning Gundam. I don't have it anymore but it was the first model I bought on a family trip. I've been hooked ever since.
One of my first memories of gunplpa as a hobby is when I picked up a RG Unicorn from a Barnes and Noble long, long ago (probably when it first released). I had no idea how to start or tools, so I built it my bear hands and a nail clipper. I still have it on my shelf and have since done some clean up on it and added decals to it. A kit that made me fall in love with this hobby.
the gunpla that means the most to me is the 7/11 gold injection barbatos, finding it and pointing it out to my friends they pushed me to buy and build it and it got me into the hobby after loving gundam since toonami days
For me it's the MG Gundam Barbatos. It's my second gunpla I build (my first are MG Duelfrom SEED). It may not paint but the finish work are awesome and I can remember the feeling when I builded it. Really fun and excited and remind me of why I love this hobby. It still display on my desk and I hope I'll buy another one to paint it now that I have more experience.
I can relate to you in the way of that you got in to gunpla very early then sorta drifted away from it as you grew older before falling in love with it again. I also got in to gundam in the early 2000s or so when Wing was on Toonami. I vividly remember having a RX-78-2, and through the years I lost parts of it until I just had the torso and head unit left. Funnily enough though, when I got back in to the hobby, it was the HG RX-78-2 (Revive) that was my first model kit again. The artwork on the Revive's box snatched me, and since then I've been back lol robots are cool as hell.
A gunpla that means a lot to me, I’d have to say I loved my mg freedom, it’s the first mg I ever built, and it was so enjoyable it kicked off my love for these kits! My first ever kit was the hg destiny, very fun but simple to build, it wasn’t until I built a master grade when I realized how detailed these could be! I built that mg while watch gundam seed and soon after completing that build my new tradition became watching gundam while I build a kit from that series! Fast forward a couple years and my room is decorated with lots of kits and I love them! I have a unicorn ver ka that would look oh so beautiful on that base so I hope you pick me!
I only got into gunpla last summer, and the kit that means most to me is probably my RG Exia, it was the second kit I ever built and my first RG, I messed up on it multiple times, but I was still able to finish it. I've been fixing it as I improve my model making skills and get new tools, I've been able to make little repairs to the kit and I can't wait to finally finish repairing it! I used to watch Gundam 00 with my older brothers, I always wanted to build the kits advertised at the end of the episodes. I'm so thankful I've had the chance to enjoy the hobby during the past 6 months or so!
I just finished building the RG and absolutely LOVED it. Things went way better than I anticipated (didn't break the arms thankfully, mineral oil for the win) I DID however managed to break the chest sockets for the arms, but I'm fine with set and forget the pose. The engineering was rather impressive as there wasn't a single "extra" parr. Definitely my new favorite kit.
The MG Wing Zero Ver. Ka means the most to me as not only was I new to both Gundam and GunPla back in 2021, I was also experimenting with other kits to build and found it to be the most satisfying to me; between the transformation, the high amount of detail, the included stand, everything. I also love the MGEX Unicorn as well, but the Wing Zero is where I have the most fondest memory of.
Very similar story myself. First kit was a 1/100 shinning Gundam bought from toys R us in the early 2000’s. Didn’t start back gunpla until my children randomly saw a Rg crossbone I had bought in 2014 which I left unbuilt. Needless to say building that kit has brought back the love of gunpla again. Currently working on ver ka banshee while my 6 year old builds hg and eg kits.
MG Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai was my very first gunpla and as a beginner I only used nail cutter and box cutter upon building that kit, I had a lot of bruises while building it because the cutter slips in the wrong direction sometimes despite that I enjoyed building it so much and knowing that I built it my self and seeing the physical representation of my favourite gundam in model kit form means a lot to me.
The kit that means the most to me is MG Zaku 2 2.0 Char Custom, I have always loved the Zaku 2 and when I got into building gunpla it was one that I always wanted even though it was a fairly available kit. After having it for a year or so and had more time under my belt I went back and did water slider decals on it to give it the love it deserves. Also, went and got a a tattoo of Char's Zaku 2 not long after that.
I recently visited my grandparents home in Hong Kong for the first time in ten years. That was where I built my first ever gunpla kit, a 1/100 scale Freedom Gundam (the 1.0 MG, I believe), some 17 or so years ago. After building that and an MG Zaku II, I fell out of gunpla until last year. This time around, I ended up buying several kits and quickly snapped one together on that living room floor for old time's sake.
the gundam kit that probably means the most is my hg lfrith, it was one of my first kits and i just remember sitting there with my parents on christmas morning after they moved out to the state i now live in and it was just a moment of calm enjoyment
For me, it's the RX-78-2 2.0. I painted all the parts on the runners with cans of paint I got from my hardware store. It wasn't perfect but damn I was proud of what I did. He's been through the ringer but he sits proudly on my makeshift desk at work with some of my models and figures. I plan on building another one soon but fully painted and lit up as a marker of my skills improving 😊
The HG Char Zaku means the world to me. It's why I started building. When my gf got it for me I used wire cutters and auto sandpaper to make him. Still looks great despite it all!
I also had a memorable experience with almost the same kit. I stopped with assembling gunpla and my first kit back, my first MG as well is the Ver Ka Unicorn Titanium Finish. It was fragile as hell but looked majestic in the display cabinet. Good times.
I remember building my first kit without any tools, so my cousin suggested using a nail clipper instead since it has a "cutter" and a "file" Ended up with a MG Winged Zero with lots of nubs😂
I think the kit that's most special to me is the HG Freedom Gundam, it was the first model I had ever built and I did it with my big brother, I even still have it to this day.
The favorite model kit building memory is the entire process of Blade Liger! It was my off-season from work so the HMM has my full attention. It had some difficult sections but once I completed it, it was one of the most beautiful kits I had ever completed! To this date it's just about my favorite kit of my entire collection
My boss got me an EG rx78 as a gift after my first few months of employment, and despite the original gundam not being my most favorite, that kit will stick with me as it's the one that got me into the hobby!
My dad and I never had much of a normal relationship, more of a master and apprentice. I worked in his garage growing up. We would rebuild motors, transmissions, etc, and collision repairs. I would sand and prime the cars so he could put the base paint and clear on. After a few years, i would paint them. If a car I really liked came in, he'd find a model car of it for me. 6 years ago, my niece and her boyfriend went to New York City for a trip. They stayed at a hotel that just happened to be across from an anime store with a huge selection of gunpla and accessories. They sent me a picture of the selection, and I seen two I very much wanted . The original MG GM Sniper and the Hi-nu Ver Ka. I transferred money to them for both, and afterwards, they showed me that they also was the metal detail and led set for the Hi-nu. A little later, they said they went back to purchase the two kits and the metal set, but the Hi-nu was sold, so I only got the Gm sniper. 3 months later I'm at my dad's house for Christmas and there was one gift for me and it said from dad. My dad paid for the Hi-nu and the detail set. That Christmas was the first time he gave me a gift since I was a kid. He remembered me talking about building gunpla and how it reminded me of the models he'd get me when I was a kid. I've painted 30 or more kits and done a lot of detail work on them. That kit still sits in my backlog because I'm afraid that I might mess up, and I don't want to ruin the last gift he's given me.
The mg gm colony type was my first kit I had built it during hurricane Maria in 2017 it provided a sense of peace where there was none due to the lack of utilities and basic things it helped by giving some peace of mind and distracting me from all the stress inducing situations
I have built the Gundam wing version ka. It looks great I also like the way they put the led lights to light the eyes up. It also has the ability to set up the funnels.
a kit that means a lot to me is the astray red frame inversion, it's the first i bought because it had the same colour scheme of my car and thanks to that i've fell in love with gunpla, i'll soon make a custom of it
this exact kit was the last kit I used nail clippers to build, I felt I did the kit so dirty I ended up buying what is the bulk of my tools from USAGS right after. Now I love the time, effort and results I put into my models. So this kit really marks a milestone in my hobby :) Now I have to rebuild the Unicorn and do it justice soon!
The mg gm command 2.0 is a kit a keep near to my heart not because it is not only my first mg and what really made me start collecting gundam I only owned a couple has before getting it, but the main reason I love it so much is cause it was a gift from my oldest brother who is currently in rehab so I don’t get see him often so the gm command 2.0 is what reminds me of him even though I don’t get see him often or talk to him often
I'm actually about to build this kit soon! It's sitting in my case ready to go, it will be my first master grade ver ka! I just got back into Gundam after almost 20 years and have fallen in love, I'm creating a bit of a backlog already but am loving every second. My builds are definitely coming out way better than when I was like 11 or 12 haha
The HG Sinanju means a lot to me. My second kit I ever built and I was still using wire cutters to cut the parts off the runners. I fell in love with the design. I'd constantly change the pose with the different weapons. The kit just felt right, even with the stickers and all that
A Gunpla that means a lot to me is the HG Revive Zeta Gundam. The Zeta series was the first series I got really into and really drove my love for Gunpla. The Zeta Gundam was the first kit I did painting and water slides on so it will always be very special to me.
The kit that means the most to me is probably my copy of the HG Hashmal, from IBO. I dont have a lot of money going around, and the aftermarket mark up on Hashmal is really quite high. A good friend of mine decided on a whim to just get it for me. I love that gigantic dinosaur. Its something that will always stick with me, just the generosity he showed that day.
So I didn't even get the the giveaway before my other comment, but I have a recent story of showing my girlfriend the gundam unicorn anime like 3 months ago, and her loving the unicorn gundam, so I bought a mg full armor for her for Christmas and it's her favorite kit so far. Which makes me smile, that's my gundam memory, that's new.
One of my favorite kits was the MG OVA back in 2010. I had just seen the first UC movie and I had to get the kit. To this day, I still enjoy the soundtracks and any Unicorn specific kits that come out.
Model that holds a special place in my heart would be the red frame astray inversion from breaker battlogue that my wife got me. It was the first kit I actually built and was an anniversary gift as I had been talking bout getting into gundam for a while. I want to get a. Master grade red frame and custom paint it to inversion colors to really do the MS some justice
There are 2 kits that mean the world to me because of what they represent for me. 1st one is the 20+ year old MG Shining Gundam, G Gundam was my introduction to the franchise, which lead to me finding this hobby I love and has got me through a lot of thought times, so I love this kit despite its age. The 2nd one is the entry grade RX-78-2, my parents worked together to make me a Gundam theme cake for my 18th birthday, what surprised me most however is that they had actually bought an entry grade RX-72-8 and build it to put it ontop of the cake despite the only thing they knew about gunpla was that I love it and occasionally seeing me building them. It might have been the birthday I turned into an adult, but I couldn't have felt more like a happy child again because of what they did.
The gunpla kit that means a lot to me is the old, no grade Dragon Gundam from G Gundam. That was one of the first kits I got as a kid and somehow it survived several moves (and a couple of decades). When I got back into the hobby recently, I found that beat up old model in storage and kit bashed it into a flying dragon. To me that model represents new beginnings and gratitude to a hobby that has given me so much.
The gunpla kit that means the most to me is my first one. I know it’s cheesy but still. I got the V core booster ver.ka. It was a gift from my cousin who also just got into gunpla and i know it’s wild to start with a ver ka but still. I just remember the build being super difficult and it took a while but, seeing the kit come together and all the intricate moving parts made me fall in love with hobby.
After watching your video of your custom painted Burning Gundam I had to get it. It’s my first build and still my favorite. Thanks for the video dude 👍👍👍👍
I loved building the MG Duel Gundam from Gundam Seed, I´ve been thinking of buying a second kit to be able to display it with and without armor, it´s a really cool Kit.
the kits that are special to me are the HGUC Moon Gundam and HGUC Delta Gundam because they are my late grandparents last birthday presents for me before their passing.
My first MG was actually the unicorn OVA version. At the time, I had really only done a few HGs and really enjoyed clear parts so I figured this was the perfect candidate for a first!
I have the Titanium version of this kit and it's funny to see that my version is still based the original release rather than the upgraded one. When it comes to special gunpla though, I think I have two that fit in the space. I've been in the hobby for a fairly long while, started out with the old 1/144 NG Alex, which I still have. It's stored away, but I had found it in a recent move and discovered that despite it not being built all that great, it highlights where I started. The other kit that's special would be the MG Exia Trans AM version. My grandma, who had no idea what gunpla was, had randomly went to some hobby shop when on a visit to family states away. She knew I was into the 'funny robots' and picked it up for me. Was one of the last things she did for me also, as she passed not long after. I never finished the kit either, as it's been in it's box partially built, as I had stopped working on it with everything surrounding her passing. Kinda a time capsule of a moment frozen, since I had stopped building gunpla for awhile after. Eventually got back into the hobby, but that kit still sits unfinished as I've never had the heart to work on it again.
So 44vyesr old here. Also I'm sure it's too late for the contest, but who cares. But it's 2013, my town Ocala has its first comic-con ever! I even made a promo for it...I'm sure people seen better. I was engaged to my wife at the time, We went to Ocala comic con, I saw a HUGE set up of Gundams. I saw red astray master grade sengoku, it blew me away, never heard of gundam model kits in the US, so I bought it. Instead of the process I have now, I was legit wire cutting pieces out, superglue everything I could, it was a horrid experience... Fast forward to 2023, my beat friend sees me eye balling a PG banshee... Next thing I know, wham. .Xmas 2023. He and I built that bad boy up, I've just kept building. I won't stop! Thanks for your time! Also thank you for the videos. I also LOVE USA gundam store!
Mine has to be MG Sword Impulse. After 4 years in the hobby, I finally bought a mg. I was so emotional when the box came in from delivery. I always wanted one but just wasn't in the position to get one till now. And oddly it was my 20th Kit too so it was a neat coincidence to think about
Interesting enough the MG Unicorn is the kit I love the most so far. It’s my 2nd MG and my kid an I build them together (his young eyes come in handy when you need to locate parts) and we look forward to the RX-78-2 V3 coming in this week!
As with your story, I too went through something similar. I technically started building gunpla as a child because of the popularity of Gundam Wing and G Gundam but being a child, I only saw them as toys (the horror). I'd build them, then play with them until they slowly broke apart. After a while I also stopped, probably moving on to other toys that caught my interest. Only until around 2016 did the thought of building gunpla caught my attention again due to some conversations with friends. After looking around on what I'd like to build, the MG Full Armor Unicorn ver. Ka caught my eye and then and there, I knew which one I had to get. The promo material all made it look incredible and even the box art, I still find myself looking on top of my shelf just to admire every now and then. My then gf eventually got it for me as a surprise birthday gift (a decision she probably regrets lmao) and I'm still going til today, though at a much slower pace. As much of a hand grenade the MG FA Unicorn was, it will always have a spot on my shelf and a place in my heart. Fortunately it was the first one I build and I had no references as to what constitutes a "good build" or a "good kit". I'd probably hate building it now since I've been spoiled with recent releases. Regardless of build experience though, it's one of if not the most imposing MG I have.
The 1/144 Wing Gundam (US version) from the 90s... it was my first Gunpla kit. My parents had gifted me this kit for Christmas when I was 10 years old. Now that I'm older and my building/painting skills are better, I'd like to get a hold of this kit again. I can paint it and gift it to my parents.
My special kit is the real grade Crossbone gundam. I always wanted to do gunpla when I was little because my dad used to be into it as well but I just never did. Fast forward to the beginning of quarantine and a browse through Hobby Lobby and there she was.
A gundam kit I remember searching all over for was the hg Asteroth back when it came out the only place i could get gundam were anime stores at malls. I probably way overpaid for it but it is still one of my favorites in my collection
The Gunpla that means the most to me I've built almost 3 years ago. It was the MG 2.0 Shin Matsunaga Zaku II. It marked my return to Gunpla while I was fighting T-Cell Lymphoma. I really thought I wasn't going to build again.
glad you’re still here with us mate
@@kae-mw5gw My Thanks.
For me its the freedom 2.0 . It was my first MG and first gift from my wife.
Good co-workers. They shelled out the cash for a Master Grade.
reviews on older kits are always appreciated and i look forward to more!
Worth noting that modern reprints of the ver. Ka include the upgraded parts from the OVA version.
What are the upgrades?
@@wade5743 They are shown in the video.
@@Linkstore49 oh my bad thanks tho
Does that include the color corrected pieces or just the white pieces that allow for better mobility and head cannons? If so, it’s basically just a repackaged ova with ver ka decals, right?
@@nicholasbullock1709 it's just the leg parts afaik. The colour is still OG ver. Ka colours, not OVA ver. colours.
the model kit that means the most to me, i actually only built last month! ive been friends with someone since we were 8, but having known each other through family, and having disconnected from my family since moving out of home, we lost touch with each other. but just last month, they reached out and offered to buy me a present for christmas! it was a really sweet move on her part, and she bought me the sazabi ver ka. since she bought it for me, we've started to talk more, and we plan to start playing pathfinder together. every time i see that model it makes me happy, reminds me of my oldest friends and it makes me happy they would get me something that i cant really afford since im poor and on disability payments, and that they would be so generous to someone they havent spoken to in forever. love you star!
My mgex unicorn is on the way so i am excited to compare the old with the new
A kit that means a lot to me is the HG Garazzo from Gundam 00 that my aunt got me when I was like five. Just recently, I managed to find bits and pieces of it like the torso and half of the head. It was my very first gunpla kit and probably was one of the factors that made me love robots to this day and decide to study engineering. I do wish that I could find the kit online to build once more after so many years.
I definitely remembered my first gundam. One of my friends went to japan and gave me the MG Strike Freedom. The beginning of my addiction.
The first master grade I bought and built was MG Unicorn Gundam Ver.Ka
I had a similar story with originally being into gunpla and then losing interest till around the time of Covid. I found the gundam planet store in NJ and fell in love again after getting the Sandrock and Virtue MG kits. It’s been a nice change of pace!
What a time. The golden age of Mastergrades. And now, here in 2024, the slow death of my favorite line.
the MG Wing Zero EW holds a special place for me. my brother bought it for me as a gift, we thought it was just a normal figure and didnt know we had to build it. i was very confused but my brother stayed up and built it for me. i lost it quite a bit ago due to damage but it is still one of my favorite gundam and gunpla in general
Amazing review, I love the original MG Unicorn Gundam! 🚀🤖
So the Epyon holds a very special place for me.
did you get the rg now?
@@poly3706 Absolutely. I preordered it from USAGS the day it went live.
11 years later I still build gunpla on a regular basis and still (mostly) get that exciting feeling every time I rip open a plastic bag full of runners.
love older reviews, can't tell ya how many times i tried to look up reviews on a kit but it was too old to have any videos on it
One fond memory I had was building the MG S Gundam when it came out was a fun experience.
Happy to be in this space.
got out my copy of this kit i built in 2008 and i'm happy to report the hip joints are stable as ever
One of my first memories of gunplpa as a hobby is when I picked up a RG Unicorn from a Barnes and Noble long, long ago
(probably when it first released).
I got the Full Armor version for my birthday from my friends, really a great build!
Freedom 2.0 is a kit I'm in love with and I can't get over it
The gunpla kit that means a lot to me is the old, no grade Dragon Gundam from G Gundam.
I was engaged to my wife at the time,
We went to Ocala comic con, I saw a HUGE set up of Gundams.
The no grade 1/100 Heavyarms custom was a gift for my 10th birthday and I’m still trying to get the joy of that kit back.
I probably way overpaid for it but it is still one of my favorites in my collection
the gundam the mean the most to me is the RG unicorn gundam because its the dream kit for me back when i started building gunpla
