I'd imagine there's something you could do to make senzu handle the gravity. Even if they had only a tiny fraction of the productivity, it would be worth it.
Not to mention that the plants which were best at growing in the HTC would be more likely to pass their genes on to the next generation (since the others wouldn't make as many beans).

Hi MasakoX, I'm a physics major, and I can tell you that Hyperbolic Time Chamber is in fact an extremely appropriate name for the room, in fact I might say it is MORE appropriate than Room of Spirit and Time. You see, Time Dilation is in fact a phenomenon that happens in real life, due to the principles in Einstein's Theories of Relativity. Basically, if you are travelling very close to the speed of light, or are close to a source of extremely high gravity, time around you will slow down relative to objects that are not traveling close to light speed or near a source of gravity. It is because under these conditions, space-time itself begins to bend. Because of the discovery that space-time can bend, scientists realized that we would need to use a different type of geometry to describe the universe. Fortunately a man named Carl Gauss had already developed a new geometric model that was consistent with curving and bending space. And it was called Hyperbolic Geometry. So, in short, it is called the Hyperbolic Time Chamber because it is the principles of Hyperbolic Geometry that allow for time dilation at all. Hope this helps!

Dude what amazes me most about what you wrote is not that you told them why its called that, but how concisely and simply you explained it all, while still teaching them a bit of history on the matter. If I had tried to write this, I would have even written the dilation tensors and plotted the graphs to illustrate XD

Goku being able to survive in the ROSAT as a kid for even a month doesn´t make any sense since it was stated that the ROSAT has 10x the gravity of earth. That´s the same as king kai´s planet and at first Goku had trouble even walking there even though he was much stronger than the Goku who survived for 1 month in the ROSAT as a kid.
That´s a plot hole I haven´t seen anyone bring up before.
Yeah good point. I never even thought about that. Maybe it was (for the sake of plotholes) his body just wasn't used to 10x gravity anymore? I don't agree with that but that't the only way without plotholes lol.
If I remember correctly, the gravity, just like the temperature in the room, fluctuates a lot. So probably he would just be lying on his back unable to move during those times. Even a normal human would survive 10x Gravity.

No, it makes PERFECT sense. It's the king kai thing that doesn't make sense. 10x gravity is too weak for goku to struggle with like he did on there. Also, remember goku had no problem with it as a baby on planet vegeta.... so the king kai thing is the plot hole, not the time chamber. If goku as a baby can tank that gravity with no effort, then why would kid or adult goku struggle?
Because sadly no one thinks about Dragonball that much which in turn Z gets away with certain potholes. Like how it was stated that no plane or aircraft can reach Kami's Lookout but Bumla is able to do so in Z.

In hyperbolic geometry, there are sections where triangles have "infinite area". I always assume that if the shape of space-time in the chamber was hyperbolic, then time could act in many different ways.
I remember years ago, before the fight between Buu and Gotenks, I had created my own DBZ character for a fan comic that a friend of mine enjoyed drawing during class. The concept of the character was basically, a young fighter traveled to Korin's tower, trained and then made his way up to Kami's lookout. He had a lot of potential to be a "Z Warrior". He trained in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, but went over the 48 hour limit and the door "relocated" causing him to be trapped in nothingness. He wandered for decades until he sensed strong power levels in the distance. Someone was training. He headed in that direction and found the doors again. However, due to decades of wandering by himself in nothingness, he went insane. It was a fun concept to play with. I even played with the idea of having him be like Master Roshi who could live for hundreds of years and have him be trapped in there for that amount of time to further drive the point of both his insanity and strength.
On a side note, didn't they mention at one point that the farther away from the door you got, the higher the gravity or am I remembering that incorrectly?
That is, indeed, a great concept. The one thing I notice is a very basic one: if the door relocated, all food and water sources relocated as well. The Z Warrior would die of thirst and starvation rather quickly
lol. That's a good point. I actually hadn't thought of that. I would probably work out the kinks if the chamber hadn't been recon'd. Well.... That and being an adult and all. I miss all the extra free time I use to have.

I have a theory suggestion if you want it. What if super sayian 3 doesn't always make your hair long. What if it changes hair length and style based on unused genes. For example Goku getting Raditz's hair when he goes super sayian 3. Because we see Gohan got hair like Ratidz but Goku has Bardock's hair. Of course this would probably mean games like Dragonball heros aren't cannon.

Your theory only works since we've only seen two SS3 transformations, both with characters related to Raditz. Since the long hair is only meant to be a visual representation of the immense power of SS3... I don't think we'll ever be able to confirm just why the hair is so long :( I just wanna know where the hair goes after the transformation
The hair length actually never changes, Your perception of the hair shifts as more power is expressed. It is like a curving lens, It also distorts our ability to see linearly around the character thus the Aura.
I suppose adding in light bending phenomena works, but in all reality it's just Toriyama created a convenient way to show the massive increase in power. Besides, Goku's and Gotenks' whole bodies would look distorted if that were the case since the aura is covering their whole body.

one of my favorite DBZ moments is when trunks describes Vegeta's training in the room and how it would catch fire or freeze solid. the imagery and implications really shaped me as a writer and I've found myself coming back to that scene and others like it for inspiration for mystic and slightly terrifying psychological introspection

Usually in most (better written) shonens, the characters have to create a plan to overcome a special ability the main villain has, so there's no point worrying about power scaling - just "how do I beat this technique?" The Room of Plot Contrivances sums up a lot of what's wrong with character progression in Dragonball.
So one of Dende's acts as guardian of earth is to fix a door...

From the standpoint of human behaviour, Tony Hakston has it down. It would be more strange to constantly mention dead relatives (especially given how long it's been!) than not.
Grandpa Gohan's legacy is (primarily) Goku, who in turn, honors GG by naming his son Gohan. In that sense, Grandpa Gohan never ceases to be mentioned in DBZ.

I'm so glad SSJ 2 Gohan was so cool. I was really disappointed when Trunks and Vegeta came out of the Time chamber and said they didn't train together.
What the hell Trunks?
You can sense Ki and at some point you could tell you were on even footing with your father and the only martial arts training you got was with future Gohan at this point so sparring is part of how you train. He didn't even have to convince Vegeta to spar, just yell at him about being an idiot for letting cell absorb 18 and he'd come full strength. Trunks could've attained SSJ 2 if he kicked the Getes hornets nest and like with Gohan and Goku fighting all out with Vegeta, but fully attaining SSJ 2 instead of a glimpse of it like Gohan as he'd very much be fighting for his life. Vegeta stopping or getting gut punched and knocked out. Coming to his senses and gaining respect for his son and a massive character arc change that we literally are only NOW seeing in Super in reality for Vegeta.
Imagine it, instead of Vegeta's improved SSJ 1 or Trunks noob balance of attributes SSJ 1 they both were SSJ 2 and now Goku and Gohan knew what to first attain. We could've got a glimpse of SSJ 3 from both of them as they quickly reach Trunks and Vegetas strength.
Cell games skip to how cell becomes super perfect cell with Goku doing the knockout combo at the start of the tournament. Still wiping out Goku. They all attack together full power but Cell uses instant transmission BS to steal sensu beans and instantly heal and hyper zenkai boost. Vegeta in his arrogance charges Cell alone and is struck down and both Trunks and Gohan use their strength in a combined beam struggle against Cell to beat him.
Just an alternative way to go about it I think. It would also help explain WHY FUTURE TRUNKS IS SO GODDAMN OP IN SUPER OMG.

Marcus Smith How is that Trunks's fault? Trunks could've fired off a Burning Attack from point blank range at Vegeta and he'd have likely scoffed (whether it hurt or not) and still excluded Trunks.
Well it matches Trunks motivation. He did tell Vegeta not to let cell get stronger, and Vegeta didn't listen. The loneliness of the time chamber exacerbating his frustration with his father until he sees he's gotten as strong as his father would be a strong reason why Trunks would confront Vegeta. Yeah it's not really sparring it's Trunks fighting for his life until he reaches deep enough to find the power to save himself via SSJ 2, but it's still something. Either Vegeta trains with Trunks long enough to also become SSJ 2 or he runs off to cry wishing he had even bigger meteors to destroy in space pushing himself through sheer rage to catch up to his son. Trunks base form is stronger than Getes when they leave the time chamber. Cell said as much so at some point Trunks would know he could take on his father if need be.
You're probably right, after nearly killing his son in a rage and getting KOd by Trunks he might prefer to keep training alone to catch up to his son. Goku and Gohan's base form together being higher than Trunks and Getes when fighting cell still showing cooperation and care gives better results than isolated bitter training.
I'm disappointed we didn't get to hear a "HyperSonic Light Saber" in the video..

In regards to the two lines that never meet. Picture one line as our flow of time and the second line as the chamber's flow. they are both moving in the same direction just the chamber's moves much faster if they ever truly crossed the stronger/faster current might damage ours. The door acts as a bridge between but I wouldn't consider that a meeting of both lines.

The word 'hyperbolic' might be a reference to a type of geometry known as 'hyperbolic non-Euclidean geometry'. It is different in regular planar (Euclidean) geometry, in which the way the space bends "more and more at the ends", kinda like a horse saddle. Such a space combined with physics would probably have special time properties. At least this is how I very vaguely understand it. I'm not sure if it had a relation to the hyperbola curve you mentioned, though. Maayyybbeee.
I remember reading a cliff notes summary of Chinese mythology and it mentions the Jade Emperor meditating for millions of years outside the universe. I always thought of the Chamber as being like that
I don't want any of the top 5 fighters in universe7 training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber instead they should train with Goku or Vegeta or even better with Whiz&Bills(The God's). I want Krillin, Rochi and Tien training in the Hyperbolic Chamber together while 17&18 either do some training section between them since they are brothers they could make each other stronger or have Bulma and his dad shining updating 17&18 idk something like that. They could also go in the Time chamber but I think is better if they do something special for them.

the hyperbola bit is pretty simple. one line is outside the chamber the other is inside. they are parallel and cannot meet. however they are on the same plane of existence. no universe no room. it's symbolic of the two timelines existing in the same space but without any contact. that's why buu and gotenks can blast through one to the other but not shout into another universe. they drew a line between the hyperbola. if it was another universe entirely it would be more like jumping to a different page.

3.) "Hyperbolic" kind of works because it's two different "Time-Lines" transpiring between the Chamber's inside and the Chamber's outside: Time-Line A (moves at a normal rate). Time-Line B (moves at a hyper-accelerated rate).
Hyperbolic space is a concept in physics where, in overly simplistic terms, there is "more" space crammed into the same volume as our regular Euclidean space. And we know space and time are interchangeable, as in "space-time", so my head-canon has always been that the Room of Spirit and Time exists in a special dimension of hyperbolic space-time, which would cause you to experience more time passing while in that dimension.
Without a doubt a very well-thought out plot device.
I'd always sort of fantasize about a villain having access to this as well. Not only to give them the same edge that the heroes had, but ultimately to pit their own will and determination against that of our heroes. When faced with this challenge, would some of our villains lose that drive for dominance? Then again, would certain villains even deign such a meaningless thing like training necessary?
After all, the diligence of training has always been exclusively for our heroes. The villains either inherently possess the strength they have just...because, basically, or they absorb other fighters like Buu and Cell. The fights would dwindle down to the merits of struggling to overcome these trials juxtaposed to the entitlement of power, or just raw rage in some cases.
This brings me to the current Super arc. I'm very excited to see this subject broached in the series once everyone realizes that, with a few exceptions I'm guessing, Goku and the universe 7 team aren't facing off against maniacal villains. Everyone here is fighting for their friends and/or for their own survival. Winning potentially means dooming your opponent to a very real and very final end, alongside everything they've ever loved.
The mathematical part makes sense. Two timelines, on the same plane (universe), existing side by side but never touching.

What about aging? In DBZ, Gohan and Trunks' hair grew in the chamber, and in DBS, Goku and Vegeta grew beards (which was hilarious). So if you spend too much time in the chamber, you age at an accelerated rate, which would cause problems if full-blooded Saiyans like Goku and Vegeta (the main two abusers of the room) didn't keep their youth basically indefinitely.

If you think of it as the Two Lines Never Crossing meaning, then it's probably talking about how there's the outside time and the inside time; they are both going to the same destination (in this case the same time period) but never cross.
I think the ease of which goku and vegeta can use it perfectly demonstrates their divine power. Sure the room is dangerous for mortals but they've ascended past earthly limitations and dangers
For anyone asking "why don't they grow Senzu in the Time Chamber?":
Gravity definitely is not a helping factor, and the rapid and severe temperature changes that plague the Time Chamber are extremely detrimental to growing crops, and I would have to assume especially so for such a powerful and important crop.
Don't forget the anime filler chamber. The place Popo takes the human fighters to train while waiting for vegeta and nappa, which was called The Room of Time or The Pendulum Room. Which apparently transported them through space as well as time. Man, that could have been really confusing if they'd named it the Room of Space and Time, we'd have 2 ROSATs.
Hyperbolic has a connotation of separation. A hyperbolic statement is extreme and removed from outside influence. So the name makes perfect sense.
Gohan can learn to turn SSJ2 but cant learn to _DODGE!_
You should make a video talking about the importance of the Champa arc. A lot of people believe that the arc was terrible and that it does nothing relevant to the series. But it actually did quite a lot and without it neither the Zamasu or Universe Tournament Arc could have happened.

Introduction of the room of spirit and time was when Goku just woke up, when Vegeta was still sulking about his loss against #18, Cell was still sucking up people and the androids were still running around.
Easy answer for those that read "wrinkle in time" in that book they basically pinch space-time together for their travel convenience... A quantum hyperbole.
This room throws you into the exact opposite. The timeline that got "wrinkled" by their magic. And its almost a perfect anology as there are unstable areas in the void and such...

Hyperbolic actually is a vary good way to explain the room of Spirit and Time. Think of it this way. Those two lines as the flow of time while that blank sheet of paper that the two lines are on as space/time itself. In the Hyperbolic processes those two rivers would be compressed and compacted towards each other but never actually changing or touching. In other words you could say the The Hyperbolic Time Chamber, is like a heavy compression chamber, and Hyperbolic is a form of compression.

In the german TV-version it's called "Raum von Geist und Zeit", which directly translates to "room of spirit and time"

I think Hyperbolic time chamber makes good sense. Hyperbolic because it exaggerates time. "Man I spent a whole year in that chamber!" "Actually it was only a day." Time Chamber because it's a chamber where time travels faster than normal. Makes sense to me.

The word Hyperbolic probably refers to the meaning 'excess,' from which both hyperbola and hyperbole are derived. The RoSaT/HTC is a dimension of excess compared to normal. Time moves faster, gravity is stronger, etc.
