"Keir Starmer has a women problem": Labour MP on why she quit party | LBC

  • Lewis Goodall speaks to Rosie Duffield, who resigned the Labour whip on Saturday over 'party sleaze becoming too much'.
On resigning, she says, ‘I tried my best to stay, I didn’t want to leave. I just can’t believe this is the Labour government. I’ve been trying to fight from the inside for 7 years, I’m done.'
She questioned why Keir Starmer is taking £32,000 in free clothes. 'It smacks of greed. We are meant to be the party of service.'
She claims the Prime Minister is 'not interested in backbenchers', adding 'he is only interested in power, it's his number one goal and now he’s achieved it.'
On Labour having a woman problem, Rosie Duffield said 'the decisions are made by the same bunch of young men. We all call them the lads. They've been the ones who have briefed against me and other women.'
She refused to quit as an MP because 'I haven’t changed my party or my principles. I’ve just stopped paying into the Labour party'

It’s scandalous demonising of Corbyn and his supporters as antisemitic has chilled me to the bone. I don’t particularly like Corbyn but I can see he’s a decent man whose politics reflected my own. Instead we’re left with the likes of Lammy, Margaret Hodge and Jess Phillips. Starmer’s comments on LBC about Israel being justified in cutting off, food, water, gas, electricity to Gaza were beyond evil.

They brought the loan of the property to an end on July 13th, 9 days after election day on July 4th. Corbyn couldn't win an election and couldn't control problems in the party leading to a problem with antisemitism that still hangs over them like a shadow. He seems like a lovely and caring guy and his desire to promote peace is admirable but Labour could never be in power with him as leader.

10:40 Lewis, i don’t agree it’s one way or the other. I think some gifted occasions for MPs to promote their local area or local events and interests are ok. If they are invited by the host, ok.
It’s the £4 million from the caymans hedge fund, the pass to host events in Downing Street. And the hypocrisy. It’s the hypocrisy of Keir Starmer posturing as hollier than thou, and then look at that, he’s as bad as the rest.
It’s one rule for them and another for every one else.
And YES Labour does have a ‘woman problem’ hence why Keir is “in power” (it’s government btw)

It’s very easy to call the concerns of 51% of the population ‘irrelevant and foolish’ when his concern are relevant and considered. Making assumptions based on what suits himself is much easier than listening and understanding other people.

She should resign and force a bi election instead of riding on the Labour name and see if she really is that popular. Reform seems more like the party she should be in.

No way, I think it is a shame she left Labour, as most of her principles are close to Labour voters and members, she certainly is not a Reform Party style person. Most of her believes are left of centre, and tie in with current Labour voters, IE those who got Labour into power.
