I can not describe my feeling to this amazing car
My first car was this model with the three-liter engine derived from the famous Mercedes 300SL gullwing sports car. I purchased it in 1975 . It had a four-speed stick shift and cost me only $4,150. The car was dark blue with a full saddle leather interior. Today, a restored example of this model is probably worth around $100,000!

It's not two-hundred-eighty SE, it's two-eighty SE three point five, and 1971 was the only year the 3.5 liter V-8 was imported to the US in the type 111 chassis coupe and convertible versions. 280SE 3.5 convertibles, which had a sticker price of about $13,000 in 1971 (certainly not cheap, as a Toyota Corolla was about $2,000 then), now run about $300,000 to $400,000--or more--in the condition shown with this coupe. When the top goes down, the price goes up.
The design engineers were really good back then. Today the new cars look alike
My dad has one. So many good memories in it. Amazing car! Never had any issues to this day.

I had a 1972 280se4.5 around 2000. very nimble and quick. easy to parallel park with its slab sides. classy, with a tall ceiling so Audrey Hepburn could sit with her hairdo if you ever got to give her a lift. did overheat on a hot 5hr drive but spewed some coolant and got back on the road. also didn't like deep winter starts, something about a resistor in the starter. finally rusted the floorpan and ebayed to a restorer in CA. 1985 380sl was snazzier, but 280se4.5 was classier.

Wwoooww!!!! What a car indeed. The Mercedes sedans and salons manufactured today have more reinforced plastics. Nothing to be surprised about when this LUXURY car maker was COMPETING with Nissan Navara in the Gulf. Nissan Navara itself is trying to outdo Isuzu D Max. The older versions of Mercedes, like the 1 featured, ooohhhhh a mama are really a wish.

This model must've been specific to the US market. Front looks like a '71 W108 280SE, but the rest like a W111/2.

If ever I win the Lottery. This will be one of my dirty dozen driven collectables. A 1971 Mercedes Benz 280SE 2dr. Hardtop. A 1958 Mercedes Benz 220S. Others will include a couple of Alfa Romeo's. A Gulia Sprint and 1750 Gulia Roadster. A couple of Lancia's. A Scorpion and Fulvia HF Lusso. A Citroen DS and Citroen SM. A green with tan leather Peugeot 404. Probably a 1958 Peugeot 403. A 1970-72 Peugeot 504. A 1967 Chevelle SS 396. Plus a 1968 Ford Torino GT and 1966 Ford Fairlane 390GT. A 1968-69 Mustang Fastback. 1968 Dart Swinger 340 4speed and a 1970 Challenger T/A340. Oh, my dirty dozen has swelled to 17 cars.

Yes, the 280 SE Coupé (1968-1971) is a nice Mercedes model, but still only a budget model derived from the 250 SE (1966-1967), which was much more luxurious. But also much more expensive to manufacture. The slightly larger engine of the 280 was not discernible to the driver, but appealed to the US market.
