I would only use REDARC projecta are good too, but REDARC are just on a whole other level. I have a Simple REDARC dual battery isolator NEVER let me down, however i feel it will be only a matter of time before i setup it up into the better range they offer.
Best video on dual battery set up I’ve seen soo far. Most videos have not explained it soo clear and to the point and make it very confusing and frustrating to understand . People automatically think a second battery will run a fridge for more than one day , and it will if your fridge is on the lowest setting possible but in summer 40 deg that’s not feasible. Red arc is damn expensive , however this video demonstrates just why you should throw your money at it , once , the first time and your set long time . Well done Shauno
Regarding those dc dc charger. Q1. Bought the bcdc1250. Now would that mean I'm getting constant 50amps to my secondary battery or its dependant on input ie amps the alternator/solar panel size would pump in?
I know the 25AMP charger was recommended, but can you use the 40 or 50amp charger for a battery under 200AH? Will it have improved charge times? Or will something be damaged?
Can a DC output on a small generator be used to hook up to the redarc dc-dc charger on the solar panel input or alternator input to use on the vehicle if your alternator dies???
Great video. Having researched all this myself years ago for my dual battery setup, I can say that this video is about 20 hours of research crammed into less than 20 minutes.
Usually don't watch product reviews on here because the products are typically not available in the USA. I've been looking for a simple solution to auxiliary 12v power in my truck and was super stoked to see Redarc in the North American market! Thanks for the killer review and explanation on the products!
Would love to see more info on inverters and which one to select, what they can run and what they need to support them. Also how to use them correctly.
As a customer with a few Redarc products (sbi212, bcdc25, manager 30, 1000w inverter and Tow Pro) just want to say their support is amazing. I needed a minor part (knob for the tow pro) and couldn't buy it from a store. They bent over backwards to get one to me. Big love for this Aussie company!
Redarc are the best. Was running a manager15 on my camper and it was the best piece of kit i've used in any 12v setup. Will be fitting a manager30 to my next build. Their brake controllers are great too. Keep up the good work.
The best information about 4wd touring 4wdaction have ever bought out. EVER... even since 4wdmonthly days...only if they bring back the 4wdmonthly days DVD’s
You guys are fantastic.... not only do you show cutting edge stuff ( like the auto diff locker install) but you inform us about AUSTRALIAN MADE CUTTING EDGE PRODUCTS.... we all know you can buy all these things from an array of different companies but not all stores sell the Australian products and because of that people buy inferior/cheaper overseas stuff because they simply don't know about the ozzie stuff.... I always try to buy Australian made and it's such a big help to be informed of the products we make right here in Australia.... well done guys.... and the quality is awesome...
I just use a good quality esky and ice, one for beer and one for food. One less stress while camping. Can easily go for 3 nights. Plus you can buy ice almost anywhere.
1. They manufacture in Australia - tick 2. They support their product in Australia - tick 3. They train their staff and have real qualified staff on hand for R&D and product support - tick 4. Their facilities are top notch and their testing equipment is impressive - tick 5. Shauno reckons they're alright - tick I manage a multi-million dollar test and innovation facility for one of the largest companies in Australia. I know how much money is sucked into test and R&D and I also know the quality that is produced from doing so. When I replace my lead acid dual battery system with lithium I'm buying Redarc products to match.
Thanks Shauno! Awesome company. I hate to say it but, "I'm an engineer" and just seeing the video footage of redarc, it gives me pride in a well engineered product. Even if I'm not part of their process. High quality stuff, designed for us. Theres something about packaging all these functions. Its great.
I went to an auto lecky in FNQ on my recent cape trip because my aux battery in the 4wd died. After he heard I have a camper trailer he wanted to get at it to install an extra battery and charger in it. I started pointing at display stock and describing the fitout it came with.. Manager30, colour display with Bluetooth, 200Ah lithium battery..... His mouth fell open. He had never seen the stuff hooked up yet, and he was having guesses at how many thousands of bucks worth of gear it had.. And yes, it IS good gear, and yes their service is really good, but you pay for the quality. BTW FWIW my camper is a Drifta WUHT.
Great content Shauno! how good is that an Aussie company not only makes the best but keeps manufacturing and support local👍👍 They are a great example of greed not ruling their business. Redarc all the way mate😀😀
If you don’t want to pay the price of great quality Redarc also sell hummingbird products which are close but don’t use as high end products. They do have the same amount of technology in them though.
Damn, my battery charger just stopped working after 15 years. I remembered Shaun mentioning Redarc so I gave their website a shot. That's a damn well website with a lot of info. Came back to this video and I think I'm gonna buy me a Redarc BCDC1225
Great to see a global company home grown right hear in the Land Down Under, we have lost so many innovative & creative companies to O/S cheap labour countries. I have seen the inroads Redarc have made into the US market with great results & good old Aussie know how + the yanks are simply blown away with the complete systems integration that ticks all the boxes from the team at Redarc. One question I do have is they have the 12 volt system covered, but what about the 24 volt brigade ? We have a large 4X4 overland truck & would like any info or catalogues covering our type of setup as we are currently in the build stage, & want to stay for extended time in the bush. Nothing Beats a Fair Dinkum Aussie Company, Regards Steve.
I understand this is an old thread.. but my ol truck is 24v BJ74. I am wanting to set up a fridge, led lights in the truck tent, charge some phones, would like to have solar to help charge. Be out between 3-7days at a time
For the basic Smart Start isolator system, how do you determine what size you need, do you just match the amperage (100 or 200) to your alternator's output?
Cheap way to keep 2 batts topped up is a basic Dual Charge Relay which will swap the charge as required. This is a few bucks at your local supply house or fleabay. This is a low level charge option not a megga system like Shauno's. Gives you a second start and winch option.
Newbie here I have BCDC1240D in my van and the fridge control lights are not coming on? I thought top up Aux battery with trickle charger but Aux battery appears to be charged. The BCDC1240D is flashing on the A Indicator.
Peter Beyer yep already watched it. Its only part of the system they offer for 4wd so far. And its got to be proven to work in a much harsher environment. But ty
Only ever have run redarc use a bcdc now in car and manager setup in trailer can cost more than cheap shit but it’s never let me down so worth the extra in my eyes
Hi Dennis, y can use the SBI12 but if you want the best for your auxiliary battery the BCDC1225D is recommended, this unit will also provide compatibility with solar.
I just watch this story about your products, I have just bought a GWM CANNON X, only built in July 21. Do you have the knowledge about the GWM CANNON X utes for when I am decide to run a dual battery set up in my ute
Hey Shaun... great video. BTW... what AUX batteries you recommend? And I just now purchased the BCDC1240N Core charger, for 2x100ah Carmec AGM batteries in my caravan. (All up 8500 from starter to AUX bats) The 200 ah comes right between the 25 and 40a chargers so I went for the 40a... 1/ Is this the right choice? 2/ My Isuzu Dmax 2019 has the smart alternator, so do I have to run the blue wire to ignition? 3/ I am not sure about the earth from the DCDC charger... do I have to connect its earth to chassis of caravan or run a separate earth wire from starter bat? 4/ If I was to also incorporate the Manager 30.... where would that be best positioned... in my canopy like with yours, or could it go on a wall inside the caravan? 5/ My batteries are soon to be replaced... can you recommend a good brand? Appreciate all your help, and maybe others can also benefit. Regards... Mike
You did not cover how to hand an installation for a vehicle with a smart alternator, and the use of some sort of Ignition-On detection. Can you please elaborate, thanks
Need some help with this. About to buy a new truck and trailer for the first time. I'm going in hard. Question is do i have the power set up in the truck or in the camper trailer? if it is in the truck so i can use when not using the trailer, can i connect the trailer accessories to the truck power on my return via an extension lead? Ive been quoted the redarc system by both the canopy builder and the trailer company. Which one do i get this put in to for best use? Great stuff by the way guys. Niki
I have a couple of REDARC gauges and one is the dual voltage gauge, they are both working well although I find it unfortunate that the reading pin goes in segments and not in a smooth motion which doesn't make it very accurate. I also have the extra current sensor which measures the current in 1 Amps which I find extremely inaccurate, I can be running some small LED's and the reading will still indicate 0 amps. I was really disappointed for that one considering the price, it could at least read in 0.1 Amps so you would know if you have a small current leak or know how much amps something actually consumes...
Can you charge direct from a Honda EU 20,30 generator and when you get home put the system on charge via 240 volt. A great and very informative video Thanks Shaun and Redarc.
How do you run dual isolators. I have one that leads to my trailer how would I connect another one inside the car if I have already one running and is taking up all the voltage
Charger and isolators are way different items. They do different things. Chargers may have isolators built in but they are not the same. The alternator is the charger and the isolated keeps the batteries separate and prevent teeter todder
Help!! They recommend only the 25A charger for any battery under 200ah but if I’m running a 170ah lithium that has a max charge current of 100A why wouldn’t I get the 40A or even the 50A charger?
When using a dc to dc charger can the power going into the unit come from a 12v socket or does it need to come from the battery with larger gauge wires ?
I've been fitting Redarc products for a good 10 years now and I honestly wouldn't fit anything else, good company, great products, extremely low failure rate, lots of r&d has gone into the products and built to withstand Australian conditions, this is why you pay top dollar for Redarc because it works and it lasts
If you have a non-smart alternator you only need a VSR, and Redarc make a good one. Don't think that all late model vehicles have smart alternators, some don't. My 2014 CRD Patrol has a "fixed voltage" alternator, and I am running a VSR. It is the quickest way to charge auxiliary "wet cell" batteries. I use solar to charge these when stationary. DC-DC chargers are expensive, and not required in all situations.
Id like to see you guys take a vehicle that's not meant to be off road and turn it into a overland vehicle. Been watching this dude on youtube make an off road miata and its absolutely epic.
You blokes are the best on youtube but Ya forgot the main part about solar. Ya panel itself can only harness something like 2.7% of the suns power into electricity. An mppt regulator instead of the normal solar regulator can harness up to like 8%.
They make their own PCBs? I would presume they do not make their own chips, chassis etc either. Basically these are trickle chargers to stop voltage drop and excessive current load into the battery through regulation of current supply. I will not use phone apps either, as phones are for calling and receiving calls. Interesting, Cheers for the video :-)
How and when can I please get a RedVision system for my VW Vanagon in the USA? I'm very interested. you guys took the guesswork out of it. Thanks again.
Unfortunately we cannot ship the RedVision system to the US at this stage. We plan to have this product ready for export by March 2020. The problem is that we are waiting for approval from US authorities for the product. This process has been slower than expected so we appreciate your patience. I can assure you once we are ready the system will be listed on our US website.
Please advise! I drive volvoxc60d5 my battery is in the boot? Please what should I do as power needed by me is 12v fridge and tablet. Much appreciate if you s wiiling to educate me. Thanx
Option one is use an SBI12 and run your power supply for fridge etc off of this product, this unit will isolate at 12.7V when the vehicle is switched off ensuring you don’t excessively discharge your vehicles start battery. Alternatively, if you want to run your fridge for longer when vehicle is not running a dual battery system would be required. This would comprise of auxiliary battery, BCDC1225D & FK40. In this application all your accessories would be wired to the auxiliary battery.
Great community engagement. Before I probably would have gone the cheap option now I'm more inclined to support this Australian company.
Once you see this facility for yourself, you wouldn't have anything else. Shauno
I would only use REDARC projecta are good too, but REDARC are just on a whole other level. I have a Simple REDARC dual battery isolator NEVER let me down, however i feel it will be only a matter of time before i setup it up into the better range they offer.
Spot on! I was thinking the same thing. I'll happily spend more $$$ to get a quality Australian made product.

@@REDARCElectronics looking forward to it. Thank you.
Hi Mate.
Coming at you guys from Rhode Island. Have you guys ever done some gold searching out there on the trails?
