    • @pamizme

Yea, sometimes I want to tell her she's a strong woman and I'm not. Actually some kids at her age had mental illness, they just didn't tell you and acted perfectly normal infront of you.
I'm sad that ppl like my parents don't know every person is different from the others and needed treating differently. They always think just need to give birth and feed kids like animals and kids just like that grow perfectly normal without any "depressed and stuff" issue.

I see so many comments on here saying "Your mom knows best" and " you shouldn't complain about your mom", well how about parents shouldn't degrade their children? We ALL have feelings and we all know that those closest to us can cut us with their words and actions the deepest and those wounds can be the WORST to try and get over. And also, the language used by the mother goes deeper than being just addressing issues of a young woman's body and sexuality; a lot of this plays on trying to protect your Black daughter from the harsh stereotypes placed on Black women in general. Still, there is an appropriate and non-degrading way to address that issue and it doesn't involve the word "slut".

MeMoTie no. The fact that you're policing her body, saying her shorts are too short, is the problem itself. You're sexualizing her, reducing her to the clothes she wears.
It doesn't matter how it is said, but what is said.
I think the point of this video went over your head.

+Raka Mukherjee i can clearly see the major point is that her mother hurts her with the way she speaks to her. but i do not think that the advice even though it's delivered in the wrong way is bad.
here's my personal thoughts: my body is something i want to keep for myself to see and for my love interest. why would i want someone other than him seeing most of my body? and why would i want others to see his? our bodies are for us to see and i wouldn't like others seeing it (i'm talking about being completely naked or mostly naked in case you didn't know)
if my future daughter grew to disagree with me i would be disappointed but i wouldn't mentally abuse her or anything. it's likely that i won't even say that I'm disappointed actually. i don't want to hurt her.
it's her own mind and she wants to believe whatever she wants to. i would want to leave an affect on her but if she doesn't want that then i wouldn't force it upon her.
same thing goes to you. if you disagree with me it's your own choice. i won't argue and sometimes i'll continue to talk and ask because i want to understand. i know what you're going for since i already asked someone else with the same opinion as yours hence no need for me to though.
if you think me wanting my daughter to cover her body more is restrictive, it isn't. she has a vast amounts of clothes to choose from even with my opinion saying she shouldn't wear short/tight clothes in public. she is free to choose those clothes i dislike because i know that even if i restrict this harshly she will still get the money to buy them anyways.
it's like this: i don't like those clothes on you but it's your choice.
how is that restrictive? i will try to leave an impression but i will not try to force anything.
i still won't exactly reduce her to what she wears. people will do that and you know for sure a lot of people are judgmental and they can go as far as publicly insulting her. i want to protect her from the pain of being judged. you would say that people's opinion's don't matter. i wish they didn't matter. but they do. they will bring your mental health down if you care too much and no one will like you if don't care at all. it will also make it harder to meet people because of that. if you stop caring they will be stating their opinions to each other and some will go as far as creating rumors. my opinion is that being a ghost who nobody notices is better than a person who everybody lies about and hates. it all can happen from not caring about what they think and wearing clothes that don't cover your body enough.
i would explain all of this to her in detail so she understands. if she still refuses to listen to me that's her choice. even if it makes me sad she doesn't agree with me
there is something that i hate about a lot of parents. not that only their pride stops them from trying to understand their kids but that they also force it upon them and they don't tell their kids why so they understand why they are doing what they are doing it. and even when they try to tell them and fail at it their kid will at least understand that they would do it for their own good.
sorry. i just wrote an article "̯

MeMoTie I agree with everything especially the ghost example and your last paragraph about parents just commanding without saying why. I'm not a type of person that likes to show my body mainly because I'm insecure and because as a Christian the bible says that we should dress modestly. But even if I wasn't a Christian or insecure I'd still wouldn't want to advertise my body so much like some girls do.

i actually do get the urge to do that. my body is not bad at all (even though i'd be happy gaining a little bit of weight) but still I'd rather use my body for my future husband than to attract creeps and rapists. you can't really know the difference between a person who is really trying to.. i don't know, meet you? and them.

    Dear Mama,
    I'm sorry I talk back.
I'm sorry that I'm not skinny.
I'm sorry that I can never live up to your high expectations.
I'm sorry that it's *my* fault when I get sick.
I'm sorry I don't get the honour roll in school.
I'm sorry that I disappoint you.
I'm sorry I'm not like the other kids.
I'm sorry I get angry at you.
I'm sorry that I'm hard headed.
I'm sorry that I'm not perfect.
    But,
The reason I talk back is I'm defending myself. I won't let you say the hurtful things you tell others.
The reason I'm not skinny is because I eat my feelings for all the times I've been hurt by others and by *you.*
The reason I can't live up to your high exceptions is because I'm not perfect. I'm sorry, that I'm *not* perfect..
The reason I get sick is not because I ask for it. I'm sorry I didn't wear my jacket the other day. I'm sorry that I can't stop my anxiety from happening, it's not because of my diet.
The reason I don't get honour roll is because I have no motivation. I feel like I'm doing this for you, not for me. The last time I got one, you wanted more. Like it wasn't good enough. Like if all the work I've done, wasn't good enough.
The reason I disappoint you is, well I don't know. I can't be happy and nice all the time. I wish I could, but I can't.
The reason I'm not like the other kids is, I'm not them. I'm me. I wish you would see that I don't need to be a clone.
The reason I get angry at you is because, I'm still hurt by the past. I can't keep letting you hurt me just to pick me back up again. Telling me you're there for me when I'm hurt, but you're the one who hurts me.
The reason I'm hard headed is because I started taking care of myself. I don't need someone to tell me I'm not feeling a sort of way when I am.
The reason I'm not perfect is, no one is.

I wish my mom could just understand that yelling at me won’t teach me anything and it will just give me more stress than I already have from school and all the pressure she’s putting on me.It’s like she wants me to reach these impossible standards and if I don’t reach them she screams at me and hits me.I don’t know how she doesn’t realize how stressed this is making me and she is putting me in a depression

    • @autumnslatest9893
      @autumnslatest9893 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Honestly why do the fat comments hurt so much. If your mother knows you care to be slim, then she's just telling you, because sometimes you really don't notice. It's unhealthy to be too slim or too fat. If she tells you something like that, she might just want to alert you early before it's too much weight.

    • @MsArina01
      @MsArina01 9 ปีที่แล้ว +26

Runnah M I wish those comments were just alerts. She knows that I try my best to love my body, but she disagrees with my opinion. she doesnt like it. Idc about all the other people in the world, they can say whatever. but when my mom starts pointing stuff out it hurts.

Parents, siblings, grandparents, etc.: you meaning well doesn't make it hurt any less.
I've struggled a lot with low body confidence (and a few ED tendencies, lets call them that...) after being called "chubby" and "fat" by my (loving and well meaning) family throughout my entire childhood and teenage years. Last year I lost a lot of weight, and for once I felt good about the way I looked. My family told me I looked "scrawny" and "ill"...
When the people that love you the most see flaws in you, it's hard not to see flaws yourself...
This video hits the nail on the head.

    I'm sad

    I feel lonely
    I feel insecure
    Do you love me?
Why do you sometimes treat me like a child and sometimes like an adult?
    I'm weak
I wish I could talk to you more often without getting yelled at
    I feel mistreated
Do you think you are the only one that gets stressed?
I love having good times with you but why are they so rare?

M Avila I'm the exact same. I fear the criticisms I've been raised with will plague my own parenting and hurt my children just as it has hurt me. I really don't want to contribute to that bad cycle of self-doubt and judgment. However, I think that our awareness of the crap we deal with is wrong will prevent it from happening again because we KNOW that it isn't a valid way of thinking. We just have to remember to love ourselves and love others how we would want to be loved and that will stay true throughout all relationships and slowly change this hurtful way of raising individuals and treating others as a whole.

The very fact that this has crossed your mind, that you have contemplated this, means that you know better. That you will be the best mother your child could ever know. Be proud of that. I'm grateful to have a mother who doesn't make hurtful comments. I do understand if she stops me from presenting myself in a certain way though

Am I the only one who really can't relate to this? My Mama always hypes me up and I can talk with her about all the things I need to tell someone. In Moments like this I really feel blessed and grateful.
I am sorry for all the people who can't experience this. You are strong!!! ❤
