A's definitely need some help finding players from anywhere in the world! I don't think our scouting budget is going to be quite as high in Oakland though!
New to baseball as a sport and im really enjoying learning and following whats going on. Also like sport simulation games(FM to be particular) and hope that this series can help me get into OOTP. Here for the ride
Welcome to the best sport on the planet! I have been a fan for over 45 years and it is by far my favorite sport to play and watch. OOTP is taking my fandom for baseball and statistics to a whole new level!!
Hi, Commenting just 6 min in the video, because I'm old and the idea I have might go away as fast as it came to me : Christian Pache (CF) and Luis Gil (RP) are usually on waivers just a couple of days in the sim start, and before even opening day if I recall. They are far from top players but might help you (and they are at league minimum salaries). They are out of option years, though.
Ha, thank you for the ideas! I'm working on the next video already, and trying to remember to check the waiver wire more consistently... spoiler alert, we will have at least one of the guys that you mention when the season begins!!!
Is pache still a defensive beast in ootp25? If so, a gold glove caliber CF is not the worst thing to have, even if he struggles to hit .200 in the 9 hole
Needed something to fill the time between now and the Guardians elimination game tonight, figured I'd go back and give this series a go! I watched about half of your 2022 Kansas City Royals rebuild, I'm ready to see what you can do with the A's.
Good luck with the series! Might be able to get a prospect or two from the Padres if you’re lucky and they’re in the hunt. In my save the first year they went balls to the wall and gave me Lesko for a couple of average guys and a lower end prospect
Great run through of how you approach things with a new team. When I first looked at the game it was pretty overwhelming looking at everything that you needed to be able to deal with but your run throughs have really opened my eyes to how enthralling it all is and I’m looking forward to taking on my first team soon. Great job 👍🏼
As an A's fan, I appreciate the realistic candor about how awful it is to do anything with the team in this state. It's better than the gaslighting we've received the past few years irl
@@KatyStClair-nz7ug That would be a tough spot for sure. You're passionate about a team for decades... but then they completely backstab (or I guess in the case of the A's, maybe, frontstab, you like fifty times!)... hard to know what wins out?!?!?
I agree that the highest trade setting basically keeps you from making any trades. I usually set mine on two ticks below the highest and favor prospects one tick below that. This year. I started out with it one tick higher on each and found that trading is possible, but very difficult.
It'll be interesting to watch this series. I'm a mariners fan, so I feel similar to the A's as you do towards playing as the Rays.... it might be hard for me to root for you to do well, cause I'm always going to want the mariners to win! :)
So the only positive we have with the A's is it's a clean slate to work with in 2025.. but albeit a very small slate. Looking forward to the team building in this one!
I’d suggest moving forward the date of the draft to June 1st, which should allow enough time for your draftees to actually play some ball in the year they’re drafted
I hear you... I did that last year for the exact reason you outline, but with they way baseball has set things up now, it's kind of like they are intentionally not wanting the guys drafted into Rookie ball to get any real action that first summer. So I'm trying to go along with what MLB is doing... but I may end up changing things the way you suggest in the next couple seasons if I really don't like it.
Only move the draft to June if you generate a new schedule for the rookie and DSL leagues. Otherwise, the leagues will start in May (OOTP made that change this year) I'm probably going to leave everything alone because players are too slow to develop otherwise. The extra year of physical growth should benefit them.
Scuttle was that Ruiz was sent down because he was wearing a Support Oakland wristband and the petty Owner had him sent down as punishment....Good luck with Fisher!! LOL
The only player with drafting in the first year player draft was Connor Griffin. But he had a $12 Million demand, so carrying a significant budget forward is essential
Good luck mr. Sports I have to say as a hardcore mlb fan and someone who feels bad for the Oakland fans they actually aren’t playing that bad this year compare to the beginning of last year way better
Thank you! I agree, The A's have been playing much better this year than I expected... never would have thought they would be ahead of both the Angels and Astros a month into the season!
Well with football out of the way for the moment glad you started up this save with perhaps the hardest organization. Good luck to you. Will you even consider moving the team after some years, if it hits rock bottom and the fans stay away from the stadium. I might understand them, since I read poor Oakland have hit hard times. On your settings I think on pitcher development. Should you make it faster than "standard" ? I think I've seen young just drafted guy very fast made it to the big show when they play for the AI. I understand it's more normal these days than it was in the past, but keep a check on it. Still I think too many new pitchers makes it up already in their second season. Too many IMHO. I might be wrong. You can change it I think further on. Hope to follow you
A lot of platooning will require a 12 man staff. Keep scouting ang player development at the baseline for this year. Increase them next year. Also. Wait a year on the coaches. You don't have the money to waste. I would consider upgrading trainer and your scout if you could get a better international guy. The key is what you do with Mason Miller. I used him at closer the first year, but he had nothing to save. If you can make him a starter, that is where his maximum value is.
I did not do anything special that I know of... just a New Game, New Standard Game, clicked MLB, KBO, and Partner Leagues, and did not do a Live Start... good luck!
I know by the time I'm typing this you've already moved past - but in year one of taking over a team I think you can get away with putting $0.00 into your IAFA budget since that signing period has already passed no?
Good luck with the Royals! I agree with you in theory, but my experience with OOTP is that with the vast majority of older guys, most of what teams are going to offer me in return is garbage. If I had some older players people were willing to give me anything worthwhile for I think I would have traded them... but not a lot of those guys on the A's!
I see you're swinging off the ladies tees as far as trade difficulty goes. The default settings are way too easy for someone of your skill level. I don't have a problem with it. As long as you just use it to get some bad contracts off the books. The A's don't have any really bad contracts anyway. Just don't use it to loot all the other teams like Mushroom did with the A:s last year.
Well, good luck Mr. Sports. This promises to be quite the ride. The Welsh scouting dept. will redouble our efforts to find the best prospects we can.

Are you still going to be a fan after they leave for SacraVegas?
@oldschoolsports I appreciate the question. The answer is that I have no idea yet what my plan is. This has been my team for like 35 years.
@@KatyStClair-nz7ug That would be a tough spot for sure. You're passionate about a team for decades... but then they completely backstab (or I guess in the case of the A's, maybe, frontstab, you like fifty times!)... hard to know what wins out?!?!?
@oldschoolsports That's the thing. I don't think of it as the team doing it. Fisher isn't the team, he unfortunately owns the team. Hence the dilemma.
👀 Oakland that type of team you don't even think to do because it is such a challenge. Props and good luck Mr. Old School.
We'll see how it goes... could be a brief career for me!

You certainly can
Based on what you did with pirates and royals before
Ha, those are a blast from the past, thank you!
Take that back, as you showed your budget.
