Thanks so much for your channel. Oakland is a great choice. I am still debating between 4 teams, Seattle, Detroit, Pittsburgh or Miami. Any suggestions Old School ?. And people have respect please Old School is a great TH-camr and seems to be a class act of a gentleman. Please be kind
@@Juan-rz6gx I think Seattle is probably the best of those four teams and likely the easiest, I think you probably have them listed from easiest to hardest in my opinion. I'd just make sure you're playing with a team your excited to play with... whether its the Yankees... or the A's! Good luck when you get started!
i think we have to see Marsten at 4 overall or may risk a riot. He's the future ace and the low financial ambition would be key for an A's rebuild. also elite name if you're a Red Dead fan.
It's so interesting to see some of the players you were able to obtain for little this year, and how strong of campaigns they ended up having in the real world. Daniel Hudson pitched a lot of big innings out of the pen for the Dodgers, and three of the Yankees you obtained (Cabrera, Schmidt, Gil) all ended up putting up very solid seasons for New York.
I think Marsten is the guy, definitely. Seeing if you can get that 2-way guy in the second- or trying for the impossible guy- seems like the best move.
Good stuff OSS. I also would lean hard to Marsten as a SP. High end pitchers are hard to get and I think picking #4 you have to maximize your value. Position players are kind of what you need in a lot of ways, I get that, but man I really would find it hard to pass on a guy like Marsten who will also be signable at slot! Can't wait for the next update bro. One other tip I got from another OOTP guy is to sort by Movement on pitchers and look for lower star prospects to take a flyer on in later rounds who have a high Mov factor. Good luck!
Thank you, appreciate your thoughts! I think I am leaning towards Marsten too. I tend to favor pitching, and think a potential steady stream of good, cheap starters could be a way to remain competitive in Oakland... now I just need to find them, and keep my job until they're ready for the majors!
Hi, regarding the draft, I happened to draft both Arrambide and Moore the two top catcher, in two different saves, and out of those two, Moore is the one who developed the best (and he just ask for Slot). For a pitcher, I'd go with Levonas, he develops well in my Nationals save (I got him at 44 though, so he might slide), he has good personality too.
Thank you for the thoughts. I have drafted Arrambide in the past also, and the results were not great.... but it is a sample size of one for me! I like Levonas a lot, but think I'm leaning towards Marsten. It would be fantastic if Levonas fell to me at the top of round two if I do pass on him at #4!!!
as long as you don't just abuse the AI to make your team stacked I don't care. I tend to have a house rule that trades with a human/AI need to make some sense from both sides (it's your game of course)

I hope that you don't feel you need to play on a certain difficulty just because some bad apples were talking about it. Play whatever trading difficulty you want, its your playthrough. If they want to watch a maxed out trading difficulty they can go find someone else, you don't need to kowtow to them. That said - Have you considered moving Mason Miller to starter? He has 35 stamina so you might be able to get a clean 5 and dive out of him. Alternatively he could be an elite stopper, which might even be more valuable than closer for the position the team is in. as far as the draft.. I think Marsten is the play, but don't sleep on the three pitch guys now that you can send them to the lab to learn a fourth pitch!
Always helpful to hear from The Notorious! Marsten seems to be the viewers' choice for the draft, and given my obsession with starting pitching, I think that's the direction we could be headed! Funny that you mention Miller... I was looking at him last night after another viewer said he might consider trading him, and I did think briefly about whether he might be able to start. Not sure if I'll try it this season or not, but could be something to tinker with after some work in the development lab. And agree it might be smart to try to get more innings out of him regardless.
Loving the playthrough so far, excited to see how you develop these As. I haven’t played OOTP before or watched much more than your channel, as you pointed out the bats are certainly struggling, but I’m almost more concerned with the defensive struggles. Pitching although middle of the road I’d almost call a non-concern at the moment given the fact that the lineup fielding wise isn’t backing up their pitchers. Maybe a few well rounded players that have decent batting and fielding could get picked up as the draft goes on. Good luck with these tough draft decisions! Interested to see what you do.
haven’t been able to watch for the last week i was in the hospital so pumped the long plays started and the As sure are a tough one can’t wait to see where we are in year 10+ definitely gonna have to take some risk on signing young talent to try and get some steals cause in less Fisher somehow passes in game that budgets gonna suck and the charity story line Fisher not gonna be happy with you spending 15 milllion 😂 I feel like you might have to change the ticket prices a couple times a year
Glad you are back, and hope you are feeling better! Fisher will definitely keep things interesting, and he's young enough that I'll probably be dealing with him for the better part of two decades...
I heard my name at the beginning! Also, who cares what people think? I had someone call me a joke the other day because I don't play with hard trading mode on. I'll be following along as I always do!
OK, I'm a big player development fan, and sometimes scouting too. But let's think about this. Your farm system has no prospects, so what are you investing in. Even the players you draft won't play a single game until next year, unless you change the settings. You know that this draft is going to suck, so what are you investing in? Scouting discoveries? Even the IAFA's won't be scouted until the end of the season, so you can invest then. Right?
Meh... maybe I'm missing something, but what are the other options? The ones I can think of aren't that exciting to me, but maybe there's an angle you're thinking of that I haven't? I could have spent $10 million a year on Brandon Belt when I started off in mid-March to win an extra couple games this season, but that didn't excite me... I could have split $10 million across a few random FAs to generate an extra five WAR on the season, to help get the roster from train wreck to garbage, but I don't care that much about what we do on the field this season... I could have dumped $10 million into the draft budget to go sign an extra "Impossible" guy, but I think that's kind of cheesy when I already know what the 2024 draft is going to look like. Once we get into fictional classes at least there would be some risk/uncertainty around doing that... I'm not necessarily expecting huge returns, as you're right that there's not much in the system right now, but thinking about "realism" in an admittedly simplified and unrealistic virtual world, starting to invest more heavily/differently in scouting and player development seems like something a new regime would do to start building up their organization and process.
My first priority would be my draft budget. If that's healthy, I'd invest in scouting next. Maybe you get a good discovery. Then, I'd turn to player development. Usually. I do the last two in reverse order, but this team is an exception.
@@patrickdebonis6493 Thanks, I think with a team like this it could make sense to maybe put more into scouting and less into player development than I normally would, that is a good rationale!
I don't know what you've been smoking, but there is a HUGE difference between the default trade settings and the highest. I don't find either to be optimal. I want a challenge, but not something that makes fair trades impossible.
Ha! I put a video out a couple months ago trying to examine this objectively. The difference in what the Yankees could get in return for some of their prominent players was surprisingly small to me when comparing the easiest and hardest settings (much less the default and the hardest). Clearly they got better deals at the easier settings, but I did not find the differences to be nearly as stark as those who think the only way to play the game is at the hardest setting would have us believe. Your interpretation of the video/mileage may vary, but I believe the differences are smaller than some believe they are.
I know. I saw the video. You couldn't unload Stanton's contract so easily. But you could get out of it. On the higher settings, it's no way Jose. At least not until you get to the latter years and the $$$ go down. But even then, you're still retaining. Of course, this is complicated further by his no trade clause. So, he might not be a good example. The areas where you can really rip AI off on the default setting is with prospects and cash coming back. If you want to see this first hand. Go look at Mushroom's 24 A's sim. I lost interest real fast.
@@patrickdebonis6493 I do agree that it's not that interesting to me to watch someone build an unrealistic superteam by taking advantage of the AI and other quirks of the game... I try to keep things realistic in my mind, but I'm sure there are things I do that others view less positively.
Late to this and most things said I see in the comments. However one thing stood out that I sign up on. Put lesser money into player development.
