Maria Callas & Giuseppe Di Stefano at their 2nd Recital (of their Farewell Tour), singing Gounod's Faust Duet: "Il se fait tard! ... Laisse-moi contempler ton visage ... O nuit d’amour! ... Ah ! partez" Live in Berlin's Philarmonie with Ivor Newton at the piano!!! They rarely sang this duet and its a unique experience to witness Callas's Marguerite!! Even at this moment of her Career she was Magical!!

The thing that these audio recordings can never convey is how completely she still became the character she was singing. I saw her in this last concert tour in the Lyric Opera in Chicago. Standing almost always still, with just a plain white gown and a long red stole she literally before your eyes became several different people as she sang. Each character was given a different sound [even with the somewhat diminished voice] and through hand and body movements [very subtle ones] so that one felt they were seeing real people singing about their situations. This is the real ancient meaning of the word "glamour" where the person can become another through her own skills and talent making a literally magical transformation.

Vuelvo a repetir...todo lo que quedó registrado de la Callas es sublime...de un nivel excepcional. Pesar, por aquellos perfomances que no se registraron, como el de Kundry del Parsifal...eso hubiera sido...

In fact there is a Parsifal recorded in RAI in 1950 with Callas as Kundry!!
